New God of War 3 Screens

After III, GoW will probably lose its direction for a little bit, with Sony not wanting to commit to a fourth, but not wanting to drop the franchise either.

So God Of War: Code Kratos, here we come.

Aside from the fact that Greek Mythology >>>>>>>>> Norse and Roman mythology, it just seems tacky and unimaginative to move from one mythology to another with the same engine.

Roman Mythology is essentially Greek mythology with some twists, and Norse mythology is fascinating. But it's not like GOW is very well grounded in its mythology anyway. It's essentially Greek/Roman mythology made badass for the masses and stripped of most unique aspects.

Norse mythology is badass by default though.
A spiritual successor to GoW set in a stylised norse-universe is something I would'nt mind...
It even has it's own sisters of fate known as the Norns, called Urd, Skuld and Verdande.
there are a lot of similiraties actually, like
Titanmachy = Ragnarök
Kerberos = Garm
of course, parallels can be drawn between most mythologies, but still, There are alot of really well defined environments, monsters, weapons and deities that could be used as bosses and such

the Fenrir wolf, Hate, Skoll, Fafner. Lindworms, Jotunn/Giants, Vættir, Trolls, Dwarfs, elves (not the tolkienesque version), and so on :)
then you have weapons like Gugnir and Mjölnir,

First level could be you fighting Jörmungand, the Midgård Serpent, out at sea.
Your weapon of choice; an oar. :D

Paul Bonner would be an excellent concept artist to work on character designs. :)

I think they need to make something of their own. If they go for a more medieval/fantasy thing (a la LotR, D&D, etc.) then they would have more creative freedom. Otherwise it will just be "kill the gods". They should make a game that allows them to have more creative freedom and also make something less linear that lasts longer. I'd love to see them make something a bit more open world.

I agree, they have an amazingly talented team that would love to branch out and try something new. Not saying they need to make an RPG or anything, but a game that is more about exploration while boasting a solid fighting mechanic is probably my favorite combination.

I second this excellent post. What's scary is that from memory Bonner's medium is watercolour. What a fucking freak.

I concur. A free-roaming GoW would be sweet to the nth degree, with n being infinite.

If they are in a mythological mood, and are inclined to rest Kratos, I am still waiting for my SOTC-style Labors of Heracles game.

Sounds really exciting. However I would like Mayan/Incan mythology too

Really couldn't picture Santa Monica doing anything non-linear..
I bet they could pull off a pretty good linear action-rpg.

I can't help but think about the maps that the concept artists have for God of War I/II and imagine an open world with swamps, caves, mountains, deserts, etc... I don't even like open world games(besides Crackdown and Infamous), but I second this and think it would be absolutely awesome if set in the right setting. Possibilities are endless with greek mythology.

noooo. the linearity of God of War is what makes it so good. saying hello to open-world design means saying goodbye to the super-tight(r) pacing(tm) that SM do so well. as far as SUPER-directed experiences go, God of War is among the best, I wouldn't want to see the things the studio have learnt over three iterations wasted.

I retract my statement, because I think the concept alone is cool. But as Rez sez, the linearity means action packed and anxiety driven gameplay. So, I'm gonna have to say leave out open worlds, as well as co-op. Thanks for reminding me why I fell in love with the series in the first place.

Will we get the nike wing shoes from Hermes in GOWIII?

Edit: I hope the wall running is like Ninja Gaiden, and you can lunge off walls at the enemy with even more quickness like Ryu. The teaser trailers make me wish this.
Also, I hate how in NGSigma 2 they took away charging the bow/arrow from NG2. I love that you can now charge up the bow/arrow with Kratos like NG2.

seems to me like the money would be better spent on more frequent ads during TV shows usually watched by the typical 15-35 year old Male audience. I mean, you get that audience and then some during the superbowl all at once, but unless you're already a super-uber-mega-established name like Halo, it seems like rebuilding the God of War brand awareness over a longer period of time with that huge chunk of money would be more beneficial.

I'm talking out of my ass, I'm not in any sort of marketing field, I don't know how much it costs to promote a game outside of very specific cases like this one, so like I said, I wouldn't really know, but the above makes sense to me.

I have a bachelor degree in marketing, and that actually makes sense.

Also, where's mah info?

Open world is the worst thing to happen this gen, don't let that herpes ridden whore touch my GoW.

Couldn't agree more. It needs to stop, and doesn't need to infect every single game out there.

open world was the worse thing to happen to last gen too. remember that period a few years ago where suddenly everything was a GTA style open-world? yuck.

Open world games only work when they're treated as level-based games. I hate the save systems, feeling of copy-paste, empty-word-syndrome of GTA games. Darksiders did it well, as did STALKER.

GoW3 is going to end in a SotC style twist and you'll realize you've already played GoW4, not starring Kratos, but instead his daughter who is returned to him at the end of GoW3...

There is a trailer, but its not being released today. Will probably be an exclusive on GT or something.

isn't that weekly show of gametrailers returning this week? it would be pretty awesome if they showed it there...can't wait much longer!

Is there any reason we couldn't see a Heavenly Sword 2 on the GoW3 engine other than Sony hate me for all the turds I posted them during the Dreamcast era?

Sony own the IP, and I believe it did okay for a game so early in the cycle. Probably give it to a different team, but a second Heavenly Sword wouldn't surprise me. Especially if they feel the need to take some time off before the 'reboot' of GoW after 3.
