New Gran Turismo 5 Prologue screens

Makes me think of the system in Metropolis Street Racer. Where the time of day on the tracks depended on the position of the tracks and the local time.

This could potentially mean we can race all tracks at night, dry or wet.

I would so love for a racing title to make use of HDR for night races, a game where having the headlights turned on actually makes a difference.

Wario isn't a troll though, is he? :p

The mirror's a mess, but I'm sure it's placeholder. October people, tis MONTHS AWAY. This shit can only look better.

Did you even read the thread? I think the impressions on those mirrors are pretty universal.

But then, we do expect them to better it, if not for Prologue, than by the final release.

From the latest bunch:

Native capture

Photomode output — pretty sky texture ;)

Blim' should have the full res sets online soon. :D

Yeah the skybox was like that in GT:HD Concept too. It's interesting (note: odd) that they put out a framebuffer replay shot. And that still shows they're currently horizontally upscaling to 1080p, so I hope they fix that before the game releases.

wow, that native capture looks terrible...the game looks nothing like that on my screen, though it does get a bit japped at points and you can capture that

I honestly thought, that's a real shot when I saw that.

Tracks are taking a hit, but i doubt they will be like that for the final GT5. Its also pretty apparent that actual gameplay has jaggies ala forza.

I just the style of the menus, they make it an artform - not just a game.

I agree with you guys 100%, but as I said the more rabid among us were a bit pissy when I said it a few days ago.

That's just insane oO

The shots in the garage are something i was expecting to see on the next gen and not on this one :lol

Track doesn't look all that bad either, not stunning, but not bad, its not like i usually pay attention to the track anyway.

Second 1080p gallery:

Wow, far less impressive in 1080p. You can see all the tricks they used. Car still look awesome though.

I am not going to condone bullshots, but i guess people already have accepted that GT5 will have 16xMSAA and 16XAF at 1080p 60fps.

The 1080p shots look pretty bad actually. Leaving it at 720p would allow them much more AA and texture room.

I don't think anyone has, people just don't really bother discussing that because its annoying beyond belief to keep bringing up that they're bullshots inevery thread when everyone knows that they are. It's no different from really any other next gen game. People know there will be jaggies but its not going to break the games look.

Indeed, had people actually thought it was non manipulated shots then they would have written something in the direction of "LOLzer @ Forza 2 and the 360's FREE 4xFSAA :lol " but that isn't the case. :)

When that is said there's also some shots which haven't been manipulated with a healthy amount of aliasing.

People arent refering to the 1080p shots as looking like real life now are they?

As it stands, the 1080p shots look like a different game, they are terrible. I really hope the 1080p thing is not an enforced thing on PD. In my opinion 720P would be much better.

People have seen the game in motion and still refer to it as that. It's not like you're playing stills of a game. Go watch the trailers, it looks very different in motion and by no means "terrible".

I trust my own eyesight thanks. Those screens do look terrible to me, the new video from pd looks great yeah (and its in 720p hence why).

Take it how you want to, i dont really care. Being someone who has bought every GT game from PD, i know where my rationale is aimed.

OMG...those 1080p shoots don't look bad because they are in 1080p, but you're watching them on a too low resoultion set-up. properly downscaled too 720p they'll look exactly like the other shoots.

They're also not quite 1080p yet (well, they are, but as has been said already above, they're scaled horizontally) - let's wait until Leipzig for a proper look at the game.

If this is what a terrible game looks like then here's hoping we'll get some even worse looking games in the future.

See there you go again mashing words :lol If you find those 1080p screens anything better than terrible, more power to you. Dont twist things so that they suit your agenda though, thats what i would expect from a gamefaqs poster.

Terrible? Come on dude... There's jaggies, for sure, but terrible? Bollocks. The car model's exactly the same!

It's obvious that the game is NOT being rendered at native 1080p and, as such, the resulting screens are fairly ugly (upscaled).

Cars look amazing. But what is up with the in car view? Detail of the car interior is great but the environments look like crap. In the out of car pics the environments look fine. Why the downgrade in car?

Maybe they realize that in a racing game environments dont matter that much, when your driving fast the environments can barely be seen clearly anyways.

altho im sure theyll polish it up when gt5 is almost done.

I agree with the person who said the cars have a PGR thing going on. They definitely don't look as good as I expected them to look. And how much AA is going to genuinely be in the game?

The tracks are certainly very, very disappointing, though. Trees that are 2 2D trees X'd are unforgivable this gen.
Please cut the crap. Its a downloadable game for christ sakes and the real one to be released on BluRay sometime next year will have the upgraded track detail. Who are you and why haven't you known Polyphony to do this with every prologue? have played any of the GT's. For everyone concerned Kazunori and crew has always UPGRADED the graphics for the final game and Yes yes people its 1080p at 60 fps with all those cars on track. All I care about is how much AI is implemented. Those SPU's on cell makes me feel at ease though.

What the **** is it with Xbots trying to claim that F2 has superior physics to GT?

I can stomach them saying gameplay; because gameplay isn't simply how accurate the driving model is, but physics?

What the **** is with that retarded meme? It's like every xbot tard is pretending to be a professional race-car driver and knows exactly how car physics are supposed to behave.

GTHD and F2 both felt pretty pro to me (with GTHD's bumper cam exaggerating the sense of body roll much more). So where are these assholes getting off saying shit like:

xtard meme said:
and gameplay = unchanged from GT1, come on, update and improve already, F2 set new levels for physics in a console racer, this needs to follow, no more bumper cars damn it

Farkin retards. Go play Burnout if you love crashes. Leave the driving to GT

well crayon, I have a good idea about car physics, and like it or not, forza comes a distant first followed by everything else available on consoles.
imo, even forza1 still has better physics than most, no matter the slow framerate and last-gen gfx.

no need for meltdowns though.

Don't know if it's been posted yet. (Sorry)
Long Rumored, but finally here, cockpit view!

"These new Gran Turismo 5 Prologue images reveal a fresh addition to the series that fans (like ourselves) have wanted for ages - the detailed, all-dials-ticking cockpit view. And, my, does it look nice.

Before, enthusiasts (that is, reality-obsessives who avoid the disembodied third-person cam) have only had a bonnet-mounted viewpoint to opt for. But this brill view from your plastic and metal cocoon will undoubtedly add some much-needed life and tangibility to GT's increasingly sterile world."

First off, Forza 2 has an edge on physics compared to GT:HD... BUT, it gets all thrown out the window when it comes to low-speed understeer/oversteer situations, and of course, when you hit the dirt (so you don't cut corners, BUT ruins realism of the physics carry-over)... We have no idea how GT5:P is going to pan out though, i'm sure they refined it since then, and by time GT5 hits the shelves, it'll be polished up more than people expect now that the hardware is capable to standards KY wished he had before...

And yes, I noticed too that a lot of people that played F2 think that they know everything about how cars should handle for whatever reason... But in all actually, it's still off... Most of these people though will never hit up a track in RL with a capable vehicle, and the most thrills they'll ever get is riding their bicycle without a seat on...

What people need to freaking learn though is this... "OMHZXG! LOLLAZ at teh tracks"... If anyone was a gamer, that followed these series like they claimed to, PROLOGUE's tracks are usually a massive placeholder until the final product hits... You will see a very noticeable difference on the environments, and on the car models as well... But people can't read, or, have their roots planted firmly elsewhere and come with an agenda...
