New inFamous preview and screens

Pretty good graphics. Very bland / terrible looking gameplay. It looks like forced unleashed and Half-Life 2 gravity gun without the gun. He just runs around shooting electricity out of his hands. IMO Prototype is what this game should have been more like.

But we already have Prototype, we don't need another. :lol The more I see of both the more clear it is that "open-world" is where the similarities end.

Not predicting how Infamous will review since we never know how the press will treat it but Too Human was in horrible shape when they first showed it and while it did improve somewhat, it was never all that good even at the downloadable demo stage, didn't offer any diverse or compelling gameplay, didn't control all that well, the combat animations were not good, there were problems with the auto-aim, what it offered it didn't manage to do well, the situation is very different with Infamous, the controls have already been said to be good as well as it offers traversal as well as distance/melee combat, the aiming looks to be solid as well, so I'm not sure why you're so down on it.

I'm not down on it at all. I just haven't been following it as closely as others. I've pretty much just checked out the pics and some of the vids. Hadn't read many previews and the like. I'm actually looking forward to it a lot as long as the combat doesn't become too repetitive.

Pretty much.

Will buy both. <3

Then get Prototype! Choices are awesome aye?

To me it looks like more than force unleashed, and HL2 gravity gun. The only thing about those I see are lightning, and force push type abilities. No hover, climb, cover, sandbox, leveling up (not sure about force, only played the demo), etc. I'm glad it's like sly cooper in a real world environment, and electric based abilities. Sly used to climb combo things that made it look slick and it was fun. The superpowers trailer gave me that same feeling. The combo of abilities + the fact it's open world make it look great. Now I need more info on the karma stuff. Especially since the abilities split at some point based on what karma you have.

smh , you want this to be mindlessly incredible hulk clone but with super skinny guy with guns .

it's different and anyway huge part of the game is climbing building not just running ,and also at least watch the close combat trailer or power up video before trashing the game .

That's my point. This game looks like a repetitive and boring open world game. Prototype does not IMO.

No reason, I just have a feeling it will bomb in reviews. You guys seem to be freaking out and taking me the wrong way. I'm excited for Infamous and so far it looks really promising, as did Too Human but when it came to review time it was hammered by the press.

I hope I'm wrong but sheesh you guys are highly strung. relax...

Nah, it needs more robot crows and bears with mighty norse armor for that. Plus, the PS3 already had Haze, so PS3 already has its too Human like failure.
and let's not forget Lair

I really hope this game is good. I like what I see, and now that I'm seeing more, it seems like it just might be deep enough to be really interesting.

I see that criticism a LOT re: this game and it's mostly unfounded. With the abilities at your disposal, the player's the one responsible for any repetitive nature of the combat. The reason the majority of the vids do a terrible job of showcasing the game's strengths is because they do the same spamming over and over.

The best thing they could do is bring out a demo asap with a high level character and let gamers experiment.

I like the fact that you're playing as this average delivery guy, and the open world stuff seems cool. Graphics aren't anything special, but the scope could make up for this.

I guess we just disagree then. Prototype looks how you mention inFamous to me. :lol

Can't wait for demos for both though.

Graphically it keeps looking nicer, but the animations in the cutscenes seemed stilted. Hopefully it will improve by release.

Anyone else here appreciate how the scale has actually been reduced somewhat in regards to the city. Typically like in something such as Prototype or Crackdown, you have monstrous streets and distance, obviously due to the speed of which you can traverse the environments with vehicles, helicopters, etc. ...In Infamous, the scale seems as if it has been reduced due to Cole primarily getting around on his feet ....I love that! Makes the city feel a bit more genuine, intimate, and not just a bunch of buildings with 5 lanes streets insulating them.

Eh, you can walk around in >insert sandbox game< if you choose to. Other games just give you more options to travel large distances quickly.

The only real difference between any of them in terms of traversing the city is that this has a more purposeful, deliberate climbing system and Cole can't use vehicles. Though you can be a lot of that brick by brick climbing stuff will be put on the back burner once people level up enough to powerslide and hover all over the place.

I know you can walk around other cities in other titles. But obviously, they're expected to be navigated by a vehicle the majority of the time (or super speed ala Crackdown/Prototype), so the spaces all around tend to be wider and more spread apart.

Doesn't look that way with inFamous

I don't think I've ever seen as much asking about and comparing to other games in an interview. Crackdown, Prototype, Fable 2, Assassin's Creed, Sly Cooper etc.

Also, Stunt System! At least the should "force" people to experiment more during combat. :D

Ya, but again, you don't start out with the power to do so in Prototype/Crackdown. Just as it is in Infamous. You have to earn the right to be powerful in each of them.

-In Crackdown: You start out with the little Agent with barely a 5 foot jumping ability and you have to use boxes, ledges whatever at the start to reach the orbs. Eventually you level up and you're jumping up 5 story buildings, running faster than traffic and leaping half a block.
-In Prototype: You start with above average running speed and jumping height and through upgrades (absorbing specific people) you eventually can run up walls and glide in mid air.
-In Infamous: you start out climbing buildings from the ground up. Using poles, ledges etc. Then you upgrade to the powersliding on powerlines/traintracks and mid-air hovering after earning points and buying upgrades.

There's no real difference in the transportation concepts other than, again, Infamous has a more robust climbing system and you can't use vehicles.

As for the city being more intimate regarding space.. Ya, sorta. Though that's obviously a result of the others needing more road/land area to account for the vehicle use. But since you don't have to use said vehicles and both cities have their share of confined areas...

Infamous has the added bonus of you being confined to an island at a time and the city just recovering from a nuclear blast (which tends to mess it up a bit ;) ). There are still a lot of wide open spaces in the Infamous media we've seen. For example, the Park, the central area of the first island etc.. and we haven't seen the entire game.

Tell me why you think Prototype looks less repetitive? :lol
Other than having WAY more abilities and options available to the player for any given situation?

You tend to learn this stuff when you actually read about games you're interested in.
Don't believe everything you read prior to launch though. People who were interested in GTA4 learned all sorts of stuff... that turned out to be completely false :(

I'm sure I said it before, but I really like how not only your powers being different depending on your alignment, but that there are side missions exclusive to one or the other as well. Then there's the collectibles.. Replay value aplenty. :D

I just hope the story/ending is appropriately affected by it as well.

No doubt. Which is why the only base facts on dev interviews/statements. I haven't seen them drop a feature/ability yet and there's still much more to be revealed. GTA on the other hand was pretty much journalists grasping at straws and making unfounded assumptions.

He actually said it wouldn't just be 6 hours. He said it would be a 20 hour experience even without any of the side quests.

video showing off most of a mission. It's looking pretty awesome.

Wow, watching Uncharted 2's vid and then watching this.. it's like... have they implemented some new 'many shades of grey' tech or something? ;p

I do like the hints of environment traversal I see in there, powerline surfing etc. But my god..so so greeeeyyy.... I know that's how it's meant to be, but...

The side of me brought out by flower want's to colour this city up!

*nods*

In the Sly series a big part of the appeal was just traversing the levels. In the sequels they dabbled with a psuedo open-world, and while the platforming was on the easy side the level design was awfully sharp and clever at times, both in theme and structure. And the controls were polished as heck. I still think its the closest thing on the PS2 to a Mario64 quality of pure intuitive platforming fun (albeit not as deep in mechanics).

This is the main reason I'm excited for Infamous, and why comparisons to Prototype (or AC or whatever else) are missing the mark. If the game can inherit the platforming charms of its spiritual predecessor along with these other new layers of gameplay I think its gonna be a real treat.

Dont really see why theres a Prototype/Infamous 'debate' going on. They offer completely different experiences. Theyre only similarity is scale and everything else is completely different. Its not like choosing between COD and Halo for instance.

Just get em both

I honestly see them both getting repetitious (based on what Ive seen). In infamous, the powers get grander is scale but the general feeling doesnt really change. Like Im already tired of seeing his basic electricity shot. And in prototype there are a lot of 'fluffy' powers. Like I saw in one vid, he took on another soldiers identity and got him kill by his comrades. Why would I do that when I can just throw a car at him? Seems rather pointless. Im pretty sure some missions will center around it but Id rarely use it otherwise if ever.

Looks pretty good, but I just wish they'd add a few more abilities or hand to hand combat.

Prototype looked really cool with the huge number of ways to approach a situation. Infamous on the other hand seems like a one trick pony.

At least a demo will be released of this game so I can judge the game for myself properly!

Uh, that's there. Combos, launchers, the works.

edit:
I was going to post the GIFs from the last trailer to show you, but meh. The full thing's better.

Man I hate trolls from other similar games.

Infamous combat looks fun reminds me of crackdown having those thug's bullet flying all over the place.

I won't even talk about Prototype in here nor will I come in that thread and bash it.
I love when people are all innocent and oblivious when the same shit happens in the other party's threads as well.

Vid looks pretty good. I am still on the fence though. This is a game where the demo will decide if I buy it or not.

I hope the fact that you have awesome superpowers doesnt make it too easy.
