New(ish) Ninja Gaiden 2 images and video

or they could throw all kinds of crazy light bloom, hdr, crazy backgrounds, blah blah blah, and have an unsteady 30fps game with tearing. Sure, the game would suffer, but man, think of the screenshots!
DMC4 has all that and it runs at 60 fps .

Needs more wow factor. So far Team Ninja has failed.
What can I say that hasn't been said by Yamaoka already?

This gen, western games have had good graphics at shit framerates, while Japanese games mostly have shit graphics at great framerates.

That's surprising, because everyone I've forwarded the video to today has responded with variations on the "can't wait", "wow, that looks crazy", "when is this released" theme. Sometimes I just think GAF as a whole hates games or has ludicrously high expectations.

Wow thats some bad video quality on the WMV. It looked like a Wii game on my TV.
Blame microsoft for the awful encoding. Considering how big the final file is I think they had it encoded at a low bitrate using whatever old codec they found (vivo maybe :D), and then someone had the wonderful idea to reencode it at a higher bitrate or something like that.

Nah seriously, in terms of lighting/shadowing NG2 is *exactly* the same as NG1. They have better textures, better models, better animations (maybe), but the actual rendering of these elements seems to be done with the same engine as before just outputting more polys at a higher resolution.
Team Ninja was at the top of the graphics chain on the Xbox, definitely not so with the 360. And that's a real shame.

Well when "that guy" is always pounding his chest always talking about how Team Ninja pushes consoles to the limit , dissing other games and I see this. It's rather disappointing considering what was done on the Xbox graphically.

Hello? 60 frames per second? Is this thing on?

Shit Framerate???

so now on GAF, 30FPS is Shit???

and Shit Graphics = GT5, Folklore, Hot Shot Golf, Devil May Cry 4, Lost Planet, Dead Rising, Virtua Fighter 5, Mario Galaxy, Blue dragon...Ninja gaiden 2?

c'mon pleople, lets calm down

I agree it looks much like Ninja Gaiden with more polygons but I'm more concerned that they may change the game for the worse in terms of level design, length etc.

Ninja Gaiden was one of my favourite games of last gen, so I desperately hope this turns out awesome.

Seeing this image on my properly calibrated monitor at home made me realize how horrible the backdrop of that level is. Lower resolution flat texture with not even the same contrast ratio than the rest.
They'd better fix this, seriously it's laughingly bad.
As a whole, I would have to say that the game looks good, but definitely not great.

The background to that level was something I noticed, too. I remember when people were pissing their pants in amazement upon seeing the footage for this. I couldn't help but ask myself why.

I guess I have high standards, or something.

Still sexy.

I think the 1up video we saw earlier this month only contained bits and pieces of the full video on that link (just going by memory.)

I think some improved shadows and self-shadowing would help a great deal.

It would be quite spectacular if the various flashes of light that occur during fighting created shadows where appropriate.

I dislike the graphic the same way I dislike DoA4. They spend all the resource on higher resolution and flashier effect instead of a more realistic human movement and lightning. They probably side step any collision detection issue by making everybody move so fast. Fuck my eyes can't follow the fight.

Also, can Marvel sue Itagaki?

The small part of me that's a graphics whore is disappointed, I saw a few of the gameplay vids that took place at night and thought I could notice a bit of graphical improvement but I'm not so sure now, and those vids weren't in HD. They need to release some newer footage from different levels, better quality vids as well.

For whatever reason Team Ninja chooses polys over textures, and Capcom chooses textures over polys (this gen). Judging by this topic, Capcom has the right idea.

Same with Infinity Ward if I read the developers blog correctly, a low poly count lets them use some spectacular effects at a high framerate, and the game looks fantastic.

Team Ninja has a real hang up with using as many polys in a random enemy's hands as Ryu's. It looks impressive when you see an up-close screenshot, but during gameplay it's a huge waste because the player never sees that shit. Most DMC enemies look like a mess upclose (good art aside), but it doesn't matter because you never actually see them close-up. Team Ninja needs to get their graphical priorities straight (while remaining 720p, 60 FPS performance whores).
