New Mad Max Gameplay Trailer Overview

I love that second gif with the industrial area far ahead. Awesome choice to pump up the LODs on the flame effects in relation to the buildings themselves. Makes for a nice visual vista.

Agreed. They seem to have put in a lot of thought into the composition of many of these scenes, which is quite uncommon in such open world sandbox type of games

Nice. That calls for an HQ version:

Looks like fun to me.

I am still confused as to why, as an officially licensed Mad Max game that they couldn't make Max look like...Max (IE either Mel Gibson era Max or the new Tom Hardy Max).

It just makes no sense to me why they made him look so generic and unlike either one (and the voice sounds like neither).

Exactly what I'm most impressed by the trailer. A lot of normal situations on in that trailer and a lot of it looks so atmospheric and... immense. The giant sandstorm looming at the edge of the gameworld etc... It's alarming how much hype this trailer managed to generate for me. I can see some elements that are questionable to my personal tastes (hand to hand combat: enemies just waiting for the player to pummel one foe at a time?) but the rest of it looks really up my alley.

It actually looks like it could be good. It's a Batman clone but so was Shadow of Mordor and I liked that one a lot.

Batman Clone?

I must have played a different Batman, I don't remember riding around in a large open desert with vehicle based combat and survival elements (IE Food/water).

Batman wasn't the first game to have that combat it's known for either, it is basically AC's "counter" based combat but they put little "Warning" signs above the heads, then got all the credit for it.

Not going to lie thinking about playing something like that online with people..trading/building from scraps..would be neat

but yeah MGS & this in september is gonna be awesome

yupppppp gotta tell the devs to turn that off..that is annoying

That was so lame I couldn't even get to the end of the video... hey look more batman combat.

For those wondering there are over 200 unique locations in the game.

Avalanche have spoken about the vast wasteland but they didn't want it to be one big empty sandbox. So the main term they used around the studio for the wasteland is "density". Having a wasteland but cramming it with unique places and scenarios to do while still having some of those "wasteland vistas" you'd expect for a Mad Max game.

The combat looks alright... nothing special. But I do hope we get away from devs falling back on this type of combat because it's "safe." I'd like to see more games take risks and try something new with the combat.

btw, we finally did it. This is bar none the most bland stereotypical predictable forgettable player character design to be in a videogame ever

like, they couldnt posibly go further with it

Hmmm… after pausing the game at many scenes and looking for minor aliasing, I'm almost convinced that this is 1080p native and not downscaled. Wonder what AA it's running. Probably something quite expensive

I don't know what else they could have done with him, he looks like Mad Max to me.

Haha, that's my biggest complaint with what I saw too. Dude looks like an ugly Nathan Drake ripoff.

I dont know. At least try to give him more of a personality in the trailer, or something interesting in some aspect of his design

he's the epitome of videogame guy

good-looking serious angry guy with beard and scruffy voice

regardless of wether or not this fits this particular game's theme / what it's based on, I think we found him. The most uninspired character.

A Mad Max game with cool fighting (like Arkham it seems) and driving like RAGE? Filled with crazy characters and a nice open world. Jup, that's for me as I loved those games. Could be a surprise hit in a year filled with big hits like Witcher and Metal Gear.

Only problem with that, is when I seen that in the trailer I immediately thought "yup Nvidia PhysX". It honestly looks like something that'll be exclusive to Nvidia cards or won't run worth a hoot if you have AMD. (the effect the buggy kicks up)

Looks.....

atrocious!

jk

(actually, he does look pretty bad :/ )
Game itself looks great though, if a little too by the numbers.

Wish they had Hardy do face, voice and mocap.

This game looks fucking insane. Early screens didn't look that amazing but I had faith Avalanche would deliver the goods after Just Cause 2. But I didn't expect it to look THIS good.

He looks just like Mad Max (minus the Trade Marked mel gibson face.)

five-things-you-might-not-know-about-mad-max-on-the-33rd-anniversary-of-its-release.jpg

he could very well be whoever. I doubt the game has any real ties to the movies plot

they went for a style that obviously fits with both Mel and Tom Hardy but they could have done whatever they wanted to make him at least a bit more original

to be honest im not really complaining, per se. I dont have the answer to what they could have done with him, im just saying what I see; which is a super bland character, regardless if it fits or doesnt

Man should have preordered this during the e3 deals. Going to try and get a deal on this or else wait for a month since MGSV is the sabre date so it can wait. But damn looks so good.

We've reached the point where so many games have aped Max Max that Mad Max doing Mad Max is "generic."

Like seriously, Mel Gibson and Tom Hardy aren't incredibly unique looking faces or personalities in that role. All that matters is that the character wears beat up black leather gear, wields a sawed-off, drives a mean muscle car, and is a badass Australian who doesn't talk a lot.

Jesus that looked insane. I mean the visuals alone are like CG quality. And the gameplay looks like burnout meets fallout this is the new hotness!

And the level to which people are blowing it out of proportion is hilarious. "Most generic video game character ever". Yeah. Sure. Come back after playing at least 20 video games.
