Saros - New Gameplay Overview Trailer | State of Play 2026

This Game looks better than Returnal, My problem is that surely Will be difficult. hope this time it has a difficult setting.

I'm the resident Returnal stan but this game keeps looking weird to me. Gameplay-wise, I'm sure it'll be killer and I'm buying it anyway but the art direction, character and general vibe is a massive downgrade from Returnal from what I've seen. A fucking bummer that Harry Kruger left.

Looks like they're giving the players some in-game mechanisms to adjust the difficulty, so it'll be more enjoyable in that aspect, Returnal was tough, but with save-scumming was doable for those who are not into hard playstyle of the game

I didn't wanted to say something but yeah, i prefer the enemy design of returnal for now.

And having a squad is gonna kill the solitary vibe that you had in returnal, that game was almost an horror game in some parts.

They been showing the game almost at every single event instead of showing other games that people are more interested in like Intergalactic or Wolverine. That's my issue.

They showed a new God of War Logo and released a new Java 2D game . Sony are trying to keep their old fans at home with a few crumbs. But Saros is the biggest crumb. They have nothing else to show for them so the only thing they can do is show it every months or so.

And I think the gameplay of all the others big games will be an empty shell compared to Saros. They will need story, narrative, and plenty of expensive cutscenes to sell those big games as their gameplay clearly won't sell them.

I guess, I just thought they could off done a dedicated show for it closer to release and that's it. I wish they would of showed something else instead for that slot.

Saros needs all the advertisement it can get. Returnal was arguable one of Sony's best games that largely was ignored by player base who also was asking where all the games were. Maybe softening the rogue-ish elements of that will help. The first game is so good Saros has earned it's place to be shoved in as many people's faces as possible to increase their chance of success with it.

I am so sick of seeing this game, Sony advertising this game like it's the second coming of christ. It just looks like a Returnal sequel with a new cast. I enjoyed Returnal, but come on, this is nothing super special. Meh
This looks more appealing to me over Returnal.

YES!! LOL. :messenger_dizzy:

Like back then the controls trumped the animations. It didn't matter what the character looked like in motion as long as it was fast and responsive.. same with this game.

just a few quick vids I found.. but there is ton more examples.

No...........lol

I was answering your question. It's not bad that you feel that way. I can see why that would excite any gamer.

It looks giga uninspired and generic imo, like can they not do something more fun and original with the art direction?
Feels like it was made by a bunch of tech CEO's in a boardroom.

Not a fan of Returnal, but wtf is this not Returnal II: Saros. One can argue that Returnal might not be a perfect name, but this is a sequel in all but its name? With a name that feels worse to me than Returnal was.
The story was "Returnal" was told, it would be strange like a TV show where all heros die and in the next episode they somehow come back to live again.

I am fine with a "Returnal 2" where the game play is very similar but probably improved, just different name, different hero and different story in the cut scenes.

Loved returnal but not sure if i like some of the changes here. It looks like they just made the game a lot easier too and returnal wasnt that hard to begin with, but lots of people cried about it ofc

Also the sense of dread and isolation is not present here, especially with that HUB, full of NPCs

The metaprogression seems much more robust this time.

Returnal metaprogression was super weak, you barely felt any stronger between runs other than weapons getting better.

Unlocking objects was lame because most of them were situational or downright useless and discovering new ones only enlarged the pool of useless ones you could find.

The metaprogression does indeed look better, I think that's a plus.
But personally my main issue with Returnal was the lack of variety during the runs, they all feel very samey because the upgrades are boring and mostly basic passive stuff.
IMO what lets roguelites "get away" with having a low amount of content (in terms of levels, enemy variety, bosses, etc) is that high degree of variety during gameplay, like the god powers in Hades or the literally hundreds of items that do all sorts of random shit in The Binding of Isaac.

That's what I'm not seeing fixed here (for now), so I think I'll end up feeling the same way about this than Returnal. Awesome gameplay but would be way better as a 10-15 hours linear game (like a Doom 2016) instead of being like 3-4 hours of content stretched out to 15 hours with poor and repetitive Roguelite design.

Unfortunately, high level graphic roguelikes are gonna have massively less content than roguelikes with simpler graphic for obvious reasons that i don't need to explain.

You are never gonna get isaac level of content with this level of graphic...it's a tradeoff.

shocked oh my GIF

It's the spiritual follow-up to one of the best modern action games, so it's definitly something super special.
But I didn"t watch this gameplay, as I want to go in blind.
The first teaser trailer was all I needed to know this is a day 1.
Just too bad they don't also release the PC version at the same time, as high fps + keyboard /mouse makes these games so much better. Returnal's PC version felt like a remaster when it arrived.
