Silent hill: Townfall releases 2026 | State of Play 2026

I'm all for a good franchise revival but this is not the way, by releasing the games so close to each other it's going to lead to franchise fatigue therefore, driving it once again to the ground - especially if the quality is reminiscent of Homecoming, downpour, shattered memories and book of memories.

The SH franchise needs something like SH2 remake quality at the very minimum for each game to stay afloat and to not fade - once again - into obscurity, something which Konami hasn't learnt apparently since they're once again outsourcing their best franchises to 3rd party devs/companies (SH, Castlevania etc).

People say "Konami is back" but...they were also "back" during the PS360 era and we all know what happened then.

I have some serious issues with how Konami is handling the franchise. As of now they're just throwing random crap at the wall without any sense of thought or direction.

People boast about SH2 remake, but every other product carrying the Silent Hill name for the past 6 years has been mediocre at best and absolutely abysmal at worst. We had:

- The Short Message.
- Ascension.
- Return to Silent Hill.
- f

If that's Konami's idea of making the series relevant again, I don't want to see any more of it.

Man, what a stinking pile of shite SH f was

Ah yes, how could I forget the short message and its beautiful , brave and not on the nose at all message like "bullying and suicide are bad, Mkay ?"

Don't know, I don't think they're going the right way, they're gonna drive this poor franchise into the ground once again and I'm not OK with that

Man, what a stinking pile of shite SH f was, between the terribad combat, the obtuse as fuck puzzles, the absolutely on the nose "story"...and they expected the majority to go through the same terrible shit 4-5 times to get all the endings as to "get" the whole story ? lmao

One of the worst purchases of 2025 for me personally.

Only the gfx were good(ish), besides that though, it's the most 6/10 game I've played in the last few years
Yeah, although I didn't have a problem with the combat or the puzzles, what irked me the most was the otherworld which was too much a disconnect from the fog town.

And just the story and the symbolism, especially on the last playthroughs when it becomes a Sekiro type of game.

Hopefully this is more in line with 2 or whatever, it can be its own thing, but the symbolism and atmosphere IMO its best when it's more subtle.

The dev team talking for transmission sounds very passionate and intelligent on what they are building.

Yeah. I think this has a shot at being really good.

But, the main issue seems to me that, in truth, the Silent Hill 2 template is kinda restrictive. You stray too far from what's gone before and people react negatively, stay too close and it feels like a rehash.

Because if you look at what made that game stand out back in the day, it was the way subverted the balance of the first game, which was overt supernatural horror with a psychological subtext, to a primarily psychological horror facilitated by a supernatural subtext that was largely left unexplained.

Making every protagonist walk a purgatorial path really narrows your story options, so I hope that with this game they resist making Simon's guilt the focus of the plot. A feature of the character, sure. An angle of attack exploited by the dark force residing in the town, definitely. As at least it opens up options for a larger, darker threat to be explored.

As much as I love the series, the new games have been pretty eh for me thus far. I mean, I didn't touch The Message or Acension, but from what I saw I didn't need to. I was, and am still, curious about Silent Hill f, but the divisive reaction makes me want to wait for it to drop in price before even trying it myself.

I just don't feel excited about Townfall, I'll admit when they showed it was an FPS, I actually felt a bit let down. Not because I hate FPS, I've actually loved it since I was a kiddo, but just because we've seen SO many horror centric FPS titles since P.T.'s popularity that this almost feels like a been there, done that. That being said, I'm still not writing it off just yet, but I'm not expecting anything from it. If it pans out to be good/descent, cool! If not, well, then nothing of value was lost I suppose.

At this point, after how much I loved SH2R, I think I'll just continue to look forward to Bloober's remakes. Any new title I'll approach with caution.

That being said, I think it's unfortunate that the series' name Silent Hill revolves around a place/location. Because anytime there's a new game that's released that has absolutely no connection to THE place in some way, shape, or form, then it just feels kind of odd. I mean, it's Silent Hill, it was never meant to be Tales From The Crypt, The Outer Limits, The Twilight Zone, etc.

I wonder if the devs had a hard time choosing between Silent Hill Townfall or Silent Hill Townguard....

man... I'm happy to see a black main

but.. why they always make us look like corny ass nerds man. When will get a normal character design that isn't wearing black framed glasses and a beanie hat?

What do you mean by this?

Are you one of those anti-FPS people in general, like how people were complaining about Indy and Cyberpunk? Not talking shit. Genuine question.
I'm currently playing a first person game actually, but I've never played a game that felt more realistic just because it was in first person.
Actually the complete opposite, First Person it's implied that it is you, which is isn't and that there breaks the immersion, and I'm constantly reminded by the limit movement or walking into invisible object on the floor because they didn't include collision detection because you don't see the character anyway, etc
With 3rd Person it's more of you're guiding another person and watching the events unfold.
To me guilding Leon through the Racoon Police Station is more visually immersive than gliding around in first person with floating objects in my face.
If the character on screen dies or does something you didn't want them to do, some people will say something like (Leon you dickhead) the perception is different
RE7 is best played in VR because it brings you in more and a little bit more believable for that presentation, but in 2D on TV Screen it loses everything and I don't even consider RE7 scary in VR.
Basically I can get immersion from being invested in the character on screen as a spectator that's in control, but when I'm supposed to pretend I'm the character and have those limited moments, it actually breaks the immersion for me and I care even less so what happens because I'm the one it's happening to and well it's not
But I don't need anyone to agree, this is just me.
If people find it more immersive then good for them, it's a valid opinion for them.
Yea you said that after I quoted you..... If you can't see why your perceived dear dairy initial post was called out, then I don't know what to say.
It just means you jumped on someone for saying "Yeah, Not feeling it"

For the record I'm not dismissing it, just not feeling what I've seen.

This looked good, SH FPS is not something I was expecting, I know P.T. and all that but that was years ago, so a nice surprise from Konami, no less, what a weird timeline :messenger_grinning_sweat:

Being a fishing town it looks so clean in a bad way, dull I would say and I don't like it, feels very cheap for me

I hope I can have an outfit that does not scream hipster but the thematic direction is on point. Not sure how to feel about first person view...

I love the Scotland setting. Really fresh, and fits Silent Hill perfectly. I love what they did with the sign.

You can tell from the dev video how much passion has gone into the setting.

I really love the way they are going about developing the Silent Hill franchise. No forced connections, just central themes of a specific location, and a protagonist riddled with guilt and mental health issues, a world that disintegrates.

Rockstar's put cool black guys in games but outside of that video games are the new minstrel show.
It's bigger than just a lack of black games, gaming only really has American and Japanese regional genres.
We need Black/French/Italian/Iranian/Mexican/Indian/etc./etc. game genres with subgenres (Blaxploitation, Black Western, etc.) just like we have with film.
The solution is a console-based platform with lower AAA game development costs - on par with making an independent film.
Sony could make this happen by reviving PS1 and PS2 as less complicated AAA development targets.
Small teams can make a PS1 or PS2 game and sell it to a global audience via the PSN without having to pay for a physical release.

I think it looks great,I'm excited for the first person as it was one of my favourite parts of SH4 back in the day. Looking around your room and in the keyhole was pretty disturbing.

Also set in the UK!

Looks very promising, are the graphics/animations really going to be like in the trailer? Asking bc it looks super cool, if they keep it I'm very interested. Storywise I hope its not a copy of SH2, c'mon bro, I hope you were nice to your wife!

Hahahaha what's up with that outfit? It's like they just went on google and typed in "insufferable hipster", and dressed him like the first thing that pops up.

What in the fuck is that scarf?

Dude just got back from a book reading, lol. Also he copied my dad's electric heated vest. The fucking fit, lol. He got that shit on though. I'll be honest the character model itself is pretty decent.

His beanie and boots echo the kind of practical clothing traditionally worn by Scottish fishermen. Since the game is set in a small coastal village in Scotland, his outfit was likely designed to blend naturally with the local setting rather than stand out too much.

I dunno there's just something off about it, it feels too clean?
It almost looks like one of those visual novel games like Life is Strange but someone put a red fog filter over it.

Yea, its just super diluting the name.
Like oh, just throw pyramid head-ish thing in, and some monsters, and some fog. Slap a Silent Hill tag on it!
