New Metal Gear Solid 4 screens (SPOIIIILLLLERS)

Imagine you're just a regular grunt playing against The Boss from MGS3. You run into her, she totally wrecks your shit, CQC'ing you and dismantling your weapon at the same time, and while your ass is desperately trying to scramble and pick up whats left of your arsenal, she'll pop a bullet into your skull.

Then this would be the first online-game where it would be cool to get owned!! We really have to concentrate on special MGS-game modes and get rif of deathmatch, CTF and so on. I loved the sneaking mission, it's great.

Sneaking mode was definitely my favorite. Don't get me wrong, Deathmatch and Capture modes were tons of fun, I just noticed I was a little more into the Sneaking Missions. I just hope the retail version has a better way of distributing playtime of Snake and MkII amongst the players. Never got to try the robot out.

Can't wait to see what else KojiPro has in store for us.

Maybe cause... you know... people on the fence have been waiting on this game before even purchasing the system? Just maybe, ya think...

First of all, not sure why you feel the need to speak in such an immature and disrespectful way. To your point, if GTA didn't move any hardware I'd be surprised if this does. I'm admittedly a Sony fanboy, and really am looking at it from the perspective of KJP. My guess is that this game was insanely expensive, and that they need to make money on it any way they can. Not only will not everyone who owns a PS3 buy this game, I just don't know if it's going to move $400 hardware.
I don't know if you remember, but Ryan Payton had a slip up saying the game needed to sell a million copies day one or something to that effect. Regardless of whether he really misspoke, it's clearly more of an issue than you are giving it credit for. Just look at the awful cross promotional stuff, I could be wrong, but I don't remember that in any of prior games.

Out of curiosity, what do you think peoples range is to be considered good sales? I would guess 3 million. I still wonder what the deal was with Ryan's comment, I guess it was along time ago, and I know it was considered out out of context or that he misspoke, but there did seem to be some real concern there.

3.5 million would make it the best selling PS3 game and put them into profit quite easily. GTAIV (already) and CoD4 sold that much. The advantage MGS4 has is that it's exclusive. People who own both systems can't go buy it on 360.

Remember, 360 produced Gears of War which sold 5 million with a lower userbase than PS3 has now and Halo 3 which sold 8 or 9 million with only a slightly higher userbase. The userbase won't hold back MGS4

So do I really need to complete MGS 3 before playing this? For some reason I am really struggling with it, especially the controls despite having finished all the other games.

1 and 2 are more important than 3 i'd suppose. but 3 is just such an awesome game D;

I also just realized that I'll be buying two copies of MGS4. Heard a store is gonna get the Asian version on day two over here, while my US copy will be arriving 5 days later. I'll most definitely be keeping both.

Eva is in MGS4.
Which is reason enough to play through MGS3, so you don't miss anything important. Then again, MGS4 will explain everything anyways. So by that, I suppose you don't have to complete anything. :lol

Then again, MGS3 is my favorite MGS game so far. Soooo...

Cool, I was thinking of getting the PAL version and the JP version.

But I wonder if the Asian version will have English subs with JP voices??!!
Or will it be just like GT5P, all in Japanese, even though it's the Asian version.
They'll probably toss in a cardsheet with translations.......

Definitely agree...well apart from the last bit :p In the beta, both teams just seemed to play your regular team deathmatch unless someone happened to spot Snake. Never saw anyone make an effort to look for him even if he was taking person after person out in the same spot. Suppose that was the point of the mode though as its based on the single player (or beginning of it, at least) and the emphasis is purely on Snake to take advantage of two teams battling it out.

Still, it'd be good if there was a mode where the entire objective was to hunt him down even though I can't imagine it being fair if was more than 6 players plus Snake...

There's so much they can do with the online section and I hope it's popular enough for them to support it for months, even years to come. They've a massive world of settings for maps and characters to draw from and if they expand upon the game types of the beta I'd happily pay for every little thing they give us if it's done right and keeps it fresh...
Playing as Snake is aready hard as it is, can't imagine how hard Snake Vs everyone would be. :D

Just wiki the story or youtube the cutscenes. You still have time though so you might be able to finish it before the game comes out :D

Asian version of MGS4 will most likely be in English. Reason Prologue was in Japanese was because the translation for the US and EU versions weren't done yet when they released it early in Asia.

The English version will be better than the Japanese one anyway
You people really need to get off of your elitist chairs. Both voice works are great. Having played every (released) Metal Gear Solid game in both languages, I think I have a fair say in justifying that point.

Im not one of those Hayter haters (I do think he fits the roll well) but does anyone else think Kevin Conroy would do a better job as solid snake?

okay.. i'd like to have the option to shoose the japanese version.
It'd only be worthwhile for Akio Otsuka. Everyone else in the Japanese cast is inferior to their English counterpart

So true.
The Japanese version of Roy Campble sounds weak compared to the English version.

Hearing the Japanese coming from an African American arms dealer without the proper accent also doesn't sound right at all.

They all sound strange, especially when you're looking at it laterally and noticing how strange it is for these caucasian (and black) characters to be speaking Japanese, sure it's fine for Japanese, but for an English speaking person to prefer it is just bizarre.

It doesn't help that Meryl sounds like a teenager, and Vamp sounds like he could be any generic Anime antagonist. Akio Otsuka pulls it off because he's one of the best voice actors in Japan (or in general for that matter.)

guess you're right.

According to play asia there will be an english and a japanese version.
You're right!
The Asian version with Japanese language is much more expensive too.
JP voices with English subs??

Too bad they don't ship to Europe.

Because there are 11 - 12 million PS3 owners out there. That's more then enough for this game to sell great
I really think this will drive PS3 hardware more than GTAIV will. The little town I live in has 12 pre-ordIhere mostly all had the system. Looks like a system seller to me, and I live in a very Xbox-centric town. The Gamestop that was just brought in is really balancing things out by, you know, actually advertising/pitching the PS3 properly. The Gamecrazy here is full of a bunch of Xbox fanboys. No MGS related posters or hardly any PS3 ads. They even put their PS3 display in a part where people can't even see it. As opposed to GS which has an actual kiosk and MGS4 ads up the ass. They even hooked me up with one of those big Snake double sided posters they put up in the window.

No dudes, we must not derail the conversation with VA wars.... VA wars are pointless.....
I know. They really are.

I'm very excited for this. I don't know how many times I've said it, but I will say it again. I simply cannot wait to play this. :D

While I absolutely love Ohtsuka's work, I prefer David Hayters voice for Solid Snake as he is the one that I've grown attached to over the years. I actually prefer the of the Japanese cast over the English cast, though. Mainly because they're all familiar voices for me.

I guess it's kind of perfect for the current topic eh. :P You can notice there's different lip synching for each language, but unfortunately it's kind of a mediocre effort. It looks weird, almost like they used some sort of automated program. :P

Are you kidding me?

I'm amazed that they took the time and effort to do that, and to do it so well. When you consider the extra mora tacked onto borrowed words, which has a full oral reaction, that they had to remove or consider, they did a great job. See "Rikiddo" vs. "Liquid" at around the 2:00 mark. I am really impressed that they took all these extra steps AND doing it with a global release. Hats off to the voice actors.

Small random note: I don't care for Drebin's English equivalent now I've heard Keiji Fujiwara.

Yeah the LIQUID! part looks pretty good, but overall the lip-synching/facial animation in general looks mechanical and robotic to me, compared to Uncharted for example.

The lip syncing wasn't in place back then. Go watch any newer videos from the English version, it's perfect now

for me it's a mixed bag.... some voices are better in japanese, some in english/ american..
"call me mama" sounds way more horney in english though...

the one guy with the monkey looks a lot like dutch k1 fighter/ multiple champion Remy Bonjasky (k1 is very popular in japan)
remy01.jpg

*Otacon sounds more of a nerd in the English version
*Drebin sounds like a pedophile in the English version
*Patric Zimmerman is just fucking AWESOME as Liquid.
*Sunny's English VA sounds atrocious
*ED sounds too old in the Japanese version

That's what I got from the comparisons.

Why is it everytime any black charachter in a video game is brought up on GAF people go out trying to find pictures of people who "look like" them but rarely do. I just always find it pretty funny....maybe I should make an OT topic about it:lol

yeah, lol, i know. but i really think he looks like it.

Yes it is, unless you're blind.

The lip-synching is of the same quality as the TGS trailers.
No, Ryan himself said that was only implemented for the TGS trailer and they hadn't gotten around to actual lip syncing (at least not for most of those scenes). Which is why many words still look off. The lip syncing in that video I posted is much improved

i'm hoping for some 90 minute Naomi lip-syncing/ lip-sinking cutscenes.......damn... she is one of the hottest female characters ever created
Uh, that was creepy :\

Because it's more expensive and 360 has a larger software library.

In that case, find a friend of yours who have a PS3 and if he's a cool guy, he'll let you play. Otherwise, wait until the PS3 get a decent library (for you) or price cut ... But you'll miss MGS4 launch, that's for sure.
