leave Epic out of this man. let's just discuss MGS4 :D

I'm going to discuss MGS4 after I played the game xP

Till then I want to hype myself >_<. And 90 minutes cut-scenes sound so great. Man, this will be the last chapter of snakes adventure. Thank you Konami for making it sofucking epic!

you m*****r s***ch***x**** er! damn you and your teasin' ! you know I love you btw, I see almost every review stating "graphics could be better" what's your take on this? slowdown? other graphical issues? what's the deal? I just watched the high quality "Courage" trailer http://rapidshare.com/files/116963101/MGS4_Gamers_Nights_Trailer.zip
and looks gorgeous!!

Because it does.

"Graphics could be better" is a fair statement if you analyze the game "coldly" by comparing it with stuff like Uncharted from a technical point of view, but that would be like saying Ico "graphics could be better" by comparing it to, say, God of War 2.

It's a true statement, but hardly relevant overall.

Graphically MGS4 looks more of a major upgrade from MGS2/3 rather than a complete overhaul.
It has it's own aesthetic style to it. Looks great :3

could you still fast forward and rewind codec messages (without losing the voice)?

LOLOL at the people who were looking forward to shorter ones, and the cutscene haters.

Why are you laughing at us? 90 minute cut scenes, with acting of this variety, will drag this game into the shitter.

Because whenever I hear people complaining about MGS, it has always been the same thing, and frankly, it's just annoyed me :(

I guess this depends on your interpretation. You could say MGS3's ending is an hour long if you count from
the death of
the Boss onwards

Is it accurate to say that MGS4 does a lot more at once than Uncharted?

Plus the
duel on the plane with Ocelot

I mean, I will be very damn surprised if there is just one cutscene that lasts 90 minutes.

:lol @ overreactions. What do you do, sit there and time every cutscene when you play a game? Just sit back and enjoy.

Kojima has quite a few loose ends to tie up. It'll be fine.

That's what I mean, if you count that whole sequence that's around an hour long

90 minutes cutscenes, roughly 1 day of gameplay, a lot of returning characters, metal gear ray vs metal gear rex :D
boy i didn't know kojima liked us so much

How do you sit back and enjoy a feature length movie in the middle of a game? I want to play Metal Gear, not watch it. MGS3's cut scenes were fine. But a feature length film, let alone more than one of them, interrupting my playtime is just ridiculous. That is, if it's true.

Cutscenes are only bad if they go on for too long as well as take you away from the experience.

IIRC, MGS cutscenes did get long sometimes, but those ones in particular ended with a climax that you actually played so it didn't take you away from the experience at all.

it is the same all over again. U dont like MGS cutscenes? Dont play MGS. ITs part of the game for fuck sake.

Well, if you're into the story (like I am) you'll be paying attention to it and seeing where it goes instead of looking at your watch. I know it sounds extremely long at face value, but I'm saying that if you're absorbed into the story it probably won't seem as long as it is.

If you're just there for the gameplay only, I can see how it would be an irritation.

Have you never heard of overkill? I like MGS and a good measure of its cut scenes. That doesn't mean I look forward 90 goddamn minutes of one(If what's been posted is true, it implies that there's more than one!). Kojima is great, but he isn't without flaw. I'm not mindlessly splooging over everything he does.

ppl said the same thing about the top down camera. Face it MGS series scripts have alway been bad and cutscene have been way too long.

The whole "you dont like cutscenes dont play MGS" defense is stupid and is the reason some games dont improve. Games need to have great pacing and i prefer the coolest parts of games to be when i actually CONTROL the character.

It comes down to Gameplay > poorly scripted long cutscenes.

Did you have a problem with MGS3's ending?

Like dabookerman said, we most certainly wont have moments where we just sit there watching a non-interactive cutscene for 90 minutes. It's either the last one or a gross exaggeration on PSM's part.

90 minute cutscenes? thank god there's a pause button.

also, i pre-ordered the l.e. and i got a call from the store saying they won't be getting that many and that i'm not getting one. oh noez. i'll try to pre-order from somewhere else. if i can't get it elsewhere i'm just going to get the regular one, i guess.

just little over two weeks left now. omg.

I highly doubt there are any mid-game 90 minute cutscenes (probably not even anything in the 30 minute range either). MGS2 had some very lengthy scenes, but they weren't even that long. That final codec scene that everyone bitches about was under 10 minutes, for instance.

The ending to MGS3 was very long, but there's nothing wrong with that and I actually prefer a lengthy ending.

Let's just wait and see what happens before complaining.

I'm always in awe about Metal Gear graphics because of the effects and character detail! The overall graphical quality might not be on par with Uncharted, but I'm sure it will still wow me!!

I'm almost positive we'll see at least a 30 minute cutscene midgame. Kojima has a lot of loose ends to tie up with this game.

mgs4 hasn't impresssed me the same way mgs2 did, but it still looks pretty good, nonetheless.

It's probably my unsuppressed bias talking but I can't think of a game with a more pleasing aesthetic than MGS4. The art-direction is just phenomenal, and every close up of the characters always leave me utterly impressed.

I don't see any way there's going to be a 90 minute cutscene. What if you had to go to the bathroom? You miss some of it? I've never ever tried (pretty amazing if you think about it), but can you pause cutscenes?

BlazingDarkness said:
the article says that there are some cutscenes that last upto 90 minutes
so it's not combined length
but it still sounds wrong
THIS!

The main source is PSW, and they tend to lie. No way in hell there are cutscenes that last 90 minutes long!! Wth??

The colors in that trailer are excellent, not only compared to the previous crap-quality one but to last year's trailers.

Yes, you can pause them.

Yes. I never press any buttons during a cutscene though in fear of skipping it instead of pausing

Taking bets, how long before the first "Fuck MGS4 and it's 4.6GB mandatory install" thread/post?

There's always one idiot willing to be GAF's punching bag.

If it bothers that much then don't play the game or 'skip' the cutscenes.. Simple :D

And this is most likely the final cutscene as well

They said cut scenes. Though a 90 minute ending is still long as hell, at least I can just skip it If I get bored.

Yeah, me too! Wow, 10 years of MGS and I've never tried ONCE.

Wow, 10 years! Kinda forgot about that...I remember all the hype on Dave's Sega Saturn page forums for MGS, and I bought it purely due to the hype, and I played it with friends. We'd take turns and when someone died passed it around. We'd all watch the cutscenes and stuff. Those were the days. It was the cutscenes and story that blew us away. I don't know about you guys, but I can't get enough of them, mainly because they're so good (ie. style of directing, the characters, the plot, etc.).

PSM Italy 10/10

Hobbyconsolas Spain 96 / 100 (Gfx: 96; Sound: 90 (because the voices are not in spanish); gameplay 97; lasting appeal:95). They say that " it's one, if not the best, action game they have ever played. A master piece "

There's not a Spanish version?

Why do people say this? It's not like anyone WANTS to miss a great game. Even if they may have issue with one aspect of it. @_@ With 90 minute utscenes, I'd still play. I'd just have something to bitch about is all.
