New Metal Gear Solid 4 screens (SPOIIIILLLLERS)

...all this talk about playing as Raiden has me being reminded of how people want variety for MGO.

Cyborg Ninja mode? Yes please.
They need to extend on the idea of the Snake vs. Everyone mode. Ideally we'd eventually end up with

Snake vs. Everyone
Raiden vs. Everyone
Rat Patrol vs. Everyone
Ocelot vs. Everyone
Metal Gear vs. Everyone (okay that's a big stretch)
etc.

And when there's enough characters, they could do an entire character battle (which would kick ass)

They really shouldn't hold back with the craziness for MGO if they're really gonna supporting years after MGS4's launch and all that. I say make everyone Metal Gear character return playable in the multiplayer in at LEAST the custom game modes.

Imagine you're just a regular grunt playing against The Boss from MGS3. You run into her, she totally wrecks your shit, CQC'ing you and dismantling your weapon at the same time, and while your ass is desperately trying to scramble and pick up whats left of your arsenal, she'll pop a bullet into your skull.

I would love if they randomly threw in a Snake player into a normal versus mode without telling any of the players. As you're try to bring the Kero back to the base, motherfuckin' Snake grabs you from behind completely unexpectedly. :lol

I really need to
jump in
to this series. I have never played one of the MGS games. I suppose I should buy that three-pack for PS2. I plan on getting a PS3 later this year anyways.

Wow check out these cool looking patches this guy on eBay is selling

I think a lot of balancing would need to be done to make a fight with Raiden fair. If he was capable of the types of things you see him do in the trailers then someone playing as him would wipe out everyone with ease.

This is the same developer who until recently couldn't even get their main character to shoot someone in first person without holding down a series of buttons. Even worse when you'd already have a guard in your grasp and try to shoot his buddy. They couldn't even make Raiden's moves controllable if they tried.

My thought process exactly. The controls would also make this:

...very difficult and frustrating.

Not necessarily. He would not have Snake's cloaking ability or anything, nor any guns. Just him and his sword. Taking down a squad working together properly wouldn't be easy

This thread's killing me. Meryl's gorgeous as always and I'm going to have to work something out. I haven't missed a launch in MGS history. Dang you Sony and exclusivity.

As much as I am a huge MGS fanboy, I still have not looked at the screens in this thread. Luckily none were on this page I am posting on. Media Blackout is in full effect!

6-12 can't get here soon enough.

Yes, darn them for having a game that probably can't even run on the other system due to lack of storage.

It's nothing to do with the PS3 or the Xbox, it has to do with the PS3 not having a great library of games and me not owning it. No need for a squabble over nothing.

Interrogation confirmed in MGS4? I loved that from MGS3 when they would give you little hints about the area.

i have a question..

why does it say old snake ?

does that mean we will play with young snake later on?

I'd like to think we can play as Young Snake. But I wouldn't be surprised if it was just a playful little touch that means nothing. Snake is old. You'll see it in the way he acts, the way he sounds, it will be a big plot point in the game, etc... you'll see it it everywhere, even in the lifebar.

Hey, how about a mode that starts off as PMC vs. PMC, then maybe like 2 or more Gekkous descend on the battlefield a minute into the match.

In this mode, the Gekkous should be ridiculously difficult to take down by yourself, only teamwork would suffice. You can choose to avoid them at all costs, take them down together, or try and "convert" one or more to your side by hacking into them. If you manage to "convert" a Gekkou, they essentially become part of your squad, like a team pet or a summon.

They just patrol the area, decimating any opponent that comes in their path. You can even make them actively hunt down the enemy if you hack into the other team's nanomachine network. How do you combat the other team's Gekkou? Get one of your own of course! If two or more Gekkous from opposing teams run into each other... sparks will fly. It'd be pretty hectic.

just a theoretical question for the hardcore mgs fans, what would your reaction be if kojima pulled a
raiden is the main character again and you only play as snake for a small portion again
?

(btw its a mgs2 spoiler just in case theres people who are playing through the other games in a buildup for mgs4)
That wil never happen, we will NEVER get to play as Raiden because of all those whinney Snake fanboys!!! And I really hope it doesn't happen (no small section as Raiden in MGS4 or even in MGO!!!) at least for a little while, maybe after a year or so they could release Raiden as a hero character on MGO. But yeah I don't see it happen anytime soon.

Even the animations. Snake would pat his sore back from time to time when you play.

He has already stated money and game library, two valid reasons not to own a PS3.

I don't think you'll be able to play as Young Snake during the flashbacks, will you? I thought it was just pressing a few buttons to dwell deeper into the flashback who knows? But hinting from the "Courage is Soild" trailer, I do think Old Snake takes on a Young Snake Camo skin of sorts because at 1:20 of the trailer you see his face shift from old to young and it makes that camo changing sound we've heard if you've seen any of the older trailers. Now as far as it being playable thats still up for debate, it could just be a cutscene.

Was actually looking forward to something similar..... like maybe
letting us play as raiden for a few missions. Why else show us a kick ass raiden vs vamp or a dozen of those gears cutscene? Is snake in the background just watching? When have we seen cutscens that didn't involve the main character in some way be it from his perspective or involving him? I DO hope we get to play as raiden and not just watch those cutscenes. I think I'm in the minority as I loved Raiden as a character.
Yeah, but you're not the only one. I liked him since the start but I don't want him to be playable. I bet people would be pissed as hell and hate on his character all over again if we get to play as him even for half an hour  But I'm sure Kojima's learned his lesson!! No way in hell would he make Raiden playable again!!

As for Raiden scenes in the trailers, well that was just to showcase his new abilities. It's just a
theory but I think we might be able to fight "alongside" Raiden, maybe that's why we can watch those cutscenes. Just a guess though.

PS3 does have great games but it's just a matter of preference really. Some people like Xbox exclusive games some like PS3 exclusives, I'm more interested in PS3 exclusive games and that is why I got PS3 right when it came out :D (my main reason for getting a PS3 instead of an Xbox was MGS4, of course :D)

I think Kojima's trying to make Raiden as cool as possible just to spite the people who hated on him before. If it means pissing off the fair-weather fans, I hope Raiden never becomes playable. At least in single player.

Yeah because designing a game and its mechanics is best inspired by hatred of the very people who buy your games. Sounds sensible.

I don't want him to be playable in Solid series. I don't want to see people moaning and pissing again  the whole fiasco after MGS2 was really painful to watch and hilarious!

I'd however, welcome a new hack and slash title with Ninja Raiden, developed by Koji Pro of course. :D

That sound cool and all but I dunno if it would be possible to pull off something of that magnitude in an online game. I doubt it!

I guess you haven't played many online games, because there's nothing very impressive about the magnitude of that concept

I feel the same. I'd rather have Uncharted (and MGS obviously) over any 360 exclusive. Now that Bioshock is coming, the only game I really want is Alan Wake, although I'm sure I'd have picked up Gears.

Do you guys think Konami will immediately start charging for their DLC or maybe, just maybe they'll throw the fans a bone and release a bunch of free stuff first?

Considering that they were originally totally seperate games, I doubt any DLC will be free. Also, since this is PS3 exclusive the sales might not be too great so they'll need to make maximum profit from DLC.

Definitely agree...well apart from the last bit :p In the beta, both teams just seemed to play your regular team deathmatch unless someone happened to spot Snake. Never saw anyone make an effort to look for him even if he was taking person after person out in the same spot. Suppose that was the point of the mode though as its based on the single player (or beginning of it, at least) and the emphasis is purely on Snake to take advantage of two teams battling it out.

Still, it'd be good if there was a mode where the entire objective was to hunt him down even though I can't imagine it being fair if was more than 6 players plus Snake...

There's so much they can do with the online section and I hope it's popular enough for them to support it for months, even years to come. They've a massive world of settings for maps and characters to draw from and if they expand upon the game types of the beta I'd happily pay for every little thing they give us if it's done right and keeps it fresh...

i like the idea. it could be like heli in the COD4 but instead of individual effort, maybe some team kill quota or some kind of objective. would kick ass.
