Region free?
Hilarious. So it's a New 3DS XL without 3D option.
Region free?
Looks pretty and I love the colors but I just don't see the point. Granted I hate my 3DS and hardly play it but love the Switch.
Kill this bloody device and focus completely on the Switch!
This sbould have come out a year ago. Releasing this after the Switch is like....wat.
Does this play New 3DS exclusive games like Xenoblade Chronicles 3DS?
Also if it does would they need to change the box art? It currently says "ONLY FOR NEW Nintendo 3DS" which wouldnt be true anymore.
Most, if not all, of Nintendo's internal teams have already moved on from the 3DS, but the 3DS is still selling, and Nintendo still has a few games in the pipeline for it. This device lets Nintendo deliver the features people care about (large screens) without paying/charging for the ones people don't (3D). Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft all do this.I thought the whole argument for the hybrid device was so the mobile + console teams would all develop for the same system. If they are still working on DS games, what's the point?

People buying a 3ds variant this late into the systems life aren't the same people buying a console in the early days.
Yeah, Hey! Pikmin doesn't have 3D at all.I really like it. Nintendo has been ditching that 3D lately anyway haven't they?
It's the Gameboy Advance SP for the 3ds. I think it is a good move.
I'll get one, maybe sell my Majora's 3DS XL.
I see people treating this like the SP and Micro in the future when they are not that available.

It says "New", of course it can play New 3DS exclusive games. If you need affirmation it is written on the official site
https://www.nintendo.com/2ds/new-nintendo-2ds/
Xenoblade Chronicles 3DS was launched back when only the XL model is available in the US. Come on.
It also serves as an upgrade for those who are still holding on to the older model.

Anyone know if FE Echoes has stereoscopic 3D?
Same size. Are the screens bigger, smaller, or the same size as the regular XL?

Same size.
The price and branding strategy rubs against Nintendo moving forward and what their competition has been doing for the last year.
The smaller New 3DS went for $99 during the holidays. This system has the same features, minus the 3D, for $50 more. The screen size, particularly something of that resolution, hardly deserves the markup. TN and IPS don't matter either in the cost equation though I hope for the latter. If it isn't eplicitly stated in the specs, it's probably going to be a lottery.
It's apparent that the age of the actual hardware contends with the more modern design.
This thing was made to produce some incredible profit margins and keep investors happy. By any measure and regardless of the game library, it's still based on 7 year old mobile hardware with a new chassis.
I wish this thing was region-free and they made the extra effort to make higher resolution panels since 3D doesn't matter. There is probably a way of making beefier hardware at this point and upping the internal resolution of the software without performance or compatibility cost.

You hate the 3DS...that's probably why you don't see the point.
Why? Some customers aren't ready to drop $300 to play the half-dozen Switch games that are currently available. A 2DS at $80 or a 2DSXL at $150 gives them the opportunity to get their Mario, Zelda, and Pokemon on for a quarter or half of the price now and they can "upgrade" to a Switch when it gets cheaper and builds up a larger library in the future.
Releasing this after the Switch is all like...Nintendo likes money and wants to sell games to as many people as possible.
I have to say all the "Bubububu Switch exists why does this exist?" posts in this thread are some prime comedy. Keep it up.
Ive never had a 3DS, or 2DS or New 3DS. This can be pretty confusing for newcomers.

? there are currently 41 titles available for switch. but your point remains.

I'm excited for this! All I have is the Nintend DS Lite that I still play to this day. The 2DS XL is a nice upgrade!
Hopefully, the price will be $100 near black friday or the holidays.![]()
