New Pokemon Sun and Moon Trailer!

12th, so we should know what's in it by this time next week.

That's interesting. I'm guessing that we should expect quite a lot of info then seeing as we know we're getting a video on the same day and it's likely to cover the same sort of stuff. We didn't get videos with the Rockruff/Komala or Bewear/Mimikyu reveals.

we did get video for Bewear/Mimikyu, it came along with Mudsdale, etc. It's Rockruff/Komala that just appeared in the website, but was released alongside Salandit iirc.

Not on the same day as release though, sorry, that's what I meant. I believe they both came a few weeks after.

Kind of sad that Lurantis is grass typed as it means they'll fight with Lilligant for my grass team member slot and i like the look of both of them :/

Loving the lurantis fanart that I've seen about as of late though: Lots of cute ones with her winking for some reason, but the stand-out one for me was this one involving exeggutor that had me immediately searching for a mashup tool to produce this:

:D

Lurantis is a big example of what I don't really like about the Gen VII Pokemon designs, a lot of them are very "blobby", there are lots of perfect curves with very little in the way of straight lines or edges.
Just compare Lurantis to Leavanny.
I don't dislike leavanny but next to lurantis it looks kind of rubbish to me. Flower mantis is superior bipedal bug :P

I love Lurantis' "pants" (is there a name for that style? Like 70s looking I guess?) and right now I'm tempted to ditch my Grass Starter 1st run for Fire instead since I love Litten 3 and want to use Lurantis.

It does seem like a Pokemon though that's quickly becoming unsafe to google though...

Luckily haven't run into much of that myself (that I've noticed anyhoo.) I'm mostly just seeing awesome stuff like these pretties:

If you are talking about the shape they are commonly referred to as bell-bottoms.

Mudbray's eyes ruin the design for me. Why are they so large? Real donkeys don't even have visible sclera.
He's got those sheep eyes. They did it to make him look a little doofy.

It's okay though, because he becomes a majestic Clydesdale with dreads and leg warmers.

Neat. Where can I learn more about the background of different Pokemon in this way? The pokedex entries are pretty plain Jane.

This is the first time Game Freak is really doing this---XY and ORAS' official site gave some additional info on Pokemon not seen in the games, especially the Megas (such as Mega Aerodactyl apparently being how it may have originally looked) but apart from that these long summaries are new to the Sun and Moon coverage.

No clue if they're gonna be in the game anywhere since it seems the PokeDex entries are the usual size in-game.

Damn. I need to read Pokemon X's site then!

It's nowhere near as in-depth, some Pokemon get little sentences about them some don't. Check the Mega sections though since they have no PokeDex in the games and the site at least goes a bit into them, such as claiming that Mega Camerupt like Team Magma HATES water.

Bovine eyes are like that.

Also I'd argue the white area on its face are not eyes but fur, it matches real life designs that way.

I really hope Sun and Moon has the type of world building that's on the website right now. Pokemon needs that type of natural world building that makes the game feel rich with lore and details.

I'm super excited for how this world feels compared to other regions. Seemed they really tried to create a culture for the region to give it tons of personality.

I've decided! I'll go with Popplio because I want Lurantis and don't want a redundant party with two grass Pokemon. Popplio fits me more because I like elegant/cute/pretty Pokemon. Popmaid is the definition of elegance.

I feel like it echoes the progress ORAS made with its world building with Mauville. Mauville is shady as shit but it was pretty intricate between the NPCs who had all the info and the connections between the Cosmos, Stern and Wattson.

Sun/Moon seems to want to take that idea to another level, Ohmori's direction from Masuda's director style is quite stark.

Man I love PokeTrump

"These new generations, they're bringing mega evolutions, they're bringing overdesign, they're Digimons!...And some, I assume, are good designs"

Meh, Johto and Sinnoh are still king to me if we're talking world building. Unova, Kalos, and what I see of Alola feels like a theme park-ish region instead of an actual space that I can imagine living in.

Alola still looks more fun than Kalos did, though. I just don't think the world building will be there. Feels like a touristy region.

They really need to make Gumshoos fur green instead of yellow. I'm sick of the Trump comparisons. I don't want politics that affect me in my life in my Pokemon. I don't even want to be reminded of it. Pokemon is a time to explore and meet cool and pretty creatures. I have enough Trump shit in my life to not be reminded of that shit burglar when playing Pokemon or talking about Pokenmon. Also I've never even seen an English cap like that which is yellow. It's usually more Earthy, like a green or a brown.

Make his fur green for the love of God, Nintendo.

its not that serious bro.

I love me some Popplio. I didn't like it at first, arguably my least favorite of the 3, but now I think I like it the most, Rowlet 2nd, and Litten 3rd.

I don't see Trump or a detective in Gumshoos. It just looks like a generic thing.

oh well

The trick is that you should see an English golf hat. Instead, you see just regular hair. The color choices for the design are poor and should be inversed or even changed.

The fur on its side/stomach even looks like a trench coat.

I think the trenchcoat effect would've been better if it'd had a fur 'collar'

The colouring of gumshoos actually makes me think a lil bit of Kyle Hyde, except his beard was dark XD

I really hope they give forms their own Dex entries in Sun and Moon. They already have most of the flavor text and relevant statistics, so it's not like they need to come up with it.

When you think about it, Alolan forms will be exclusive to S/M.

But how? You will either have to transfer old mons in or you catch them natively in the game.

I thought about trading with XYORAS, but this is a new generation. You won't be able to trade with S/M but transferring could make it accessible to be used.

i'm very sure you get them natively

it'd be weird if a pokemon instantly transformed into a different variant just by entering alola

also in the trailer you fight wild ones so

I hadn't really followed Sun/Moon news since like E3 and just now caught up on a lot of stuff. After seeing the awesome Alola forms and tweaking the gym formula, I gotta say I'm pretty excited for this new gen.

The new Pokemon designs are hit or miss, but I'm sure there will be plenty more that will look alright. Someone pointed out that the Pokemon site had detailed entries on everything shown so I checked it out. Some favorites so far are Icetales, Minior, Vikavolt, Komala, Rockruff, and Lurantis. But what really caught me by surprise was Mimikyu- I'd seen its picture before online but had no idea it was an actual Pokemon! It has a very neat concept, I just hope it doesn't take too far into the game to catch one.

Still not sure what starter to go with (probably Popplio), and I'm leaning towards Moon but not sure about that either.
