New Pokemon X and Y Gameplay

I honestly don't care if some of the new Pokemon designs are ridiculous, because at least they're trying new things (even if their ideas are stretched a bit thin).

Sword pokemon? Sounds great.

-edit-

FYI: I'm not trying to have this years old dispute, I was specifically talking about Honedge, not Pokemon designs in-general.

You're right, it's a magnet with an eye. If only this sword had an eye.

A magnet? I thought there were two magnets?

Magnemite is a robot junk contraption, it isn't just a magnet.

a sword pokemon

are you serious

How about a pile of gunk? Better?

Or since you like Ruby/Sapphire...

A... um... Metaknight looking arrow creature in a shawl??

Octillery is my favorite Pokemon, so glad he's in.

And jeez just how many mons are gonna be in this pre-E4? It seems like a ton of old Pokemon have been shown in the game already

I'm hoping we have a good 250 sized Pokedex.

Anything less feels like too little. And ideal scenario would be 150 new + 100 old.

Honedge has an eye, in both sheathed and sword mode, also the top of its scabbard oks like a nose(or eyes) and a mouth.

Game's looking great, looks very quick going from different camera angles to the battle.

I fucking hate the effort discrepancy between Pokemon and humans in this game. Not only are the trainers not even visible in the battles, but they don't even have idle animations in the overworld making them all look like frozen Minecraft characters or something.

At this point I suppose XY looks good for someone wanting a 3D battle simulator and not much else, but I'm beginning to doubt that it'll offer any suspension of disbelief at all.

Dude, it's just one single magnet. Don't you remember using those in school all the time?

They looked just like this:

You know, the 3d battles are the aspect I've been liking most about this transition, but now that you mention it...I hope Trainer/Gym Leader poses aren't gone!

I hate how theyre still describing the attacks in the dialogue box, thats so annoying. I know its supposed to mimic sports commentary but they should put it somewhere else so you dont have to click through it.

It's kind of a bummer how limited the battle backgrounds are. Its so weird and horrible looking to have a fight in the ocean be represented by being on the coast with a water circle around your Pokemon. Same thing with the grass circle, so odd. Couldn't they have kept the skybox and change the floor completely to water or grass?

They could always add it in; there's still a little bit of time. Hopefully.

Also, lol at the 'This sword is n0t real pokemonz' idiots.

'S not just ice cream.

Diagonal walking was needed for the 3DS. Ever try using the Circle Pad for the DS games? It's awful. Glad they added it, though.

The only thing I don't like about the sword is its name.

Ever since TPCi took over Pokemon's translating, the names and script have been consistently awful but now it's worse than ever. Honedge? TALONFLAME?

One's barely a portmanteau and the other is literally just two words shamelessly slapped together. It's like the current translator has no idea that English Pokemon names are supposed to be based on clever wordplay or puns.

(Remember when Pokemon had names that a lot of people wouldn't "get" until later? Like Bonsly and Sudowoodo? Or Absol with its double-meaning filled brilliance?)

I don't like how the trainer just unexplainedly disappears and isn't anywhere near his/her Pokemon for the rest of the battle. That's almost as bad as having them appear at all.

I thought they would come up with something cooler for surfing.

I also hope they add in something for idle trainers, looking down at their shoes, yawning, looking at a pokedex, anything besides frozen. I still really like what I'm seeing though.

Which is why, even as good as the games look, the appeal of "Pokemon battles in 3D!" is lost since we had that over 10 freaking years ago.

I swear some of you guys are crazy. Complaining about a Sword that's been possessed by a ghost, but not complaining about 3 Diglets, 3 Magnemites, 2 Pokemon that look like Pokeballs, a Pokemon that is half a dozen of eggs, or two Koffings slapped together with super glue.

Kind of agreed, ever since Gen 4 I've noticed a decrease in awesome names.

Still, the majority of ones shown are fine - particularly Malimar, Chespin, Pancham, Clauncher, Sylveon.

Litleo is also terrible.

The people complaining about the sword while giving Muk, Grimer and voltorb the pass must have some sort of confirmation bias

Especially when you have pokemon like ekans and arbok who are just purple snakes (with their names backwards)

And don't even get me started on Seel... The seal pokemon... Who looks like a seal

Oh but he has a horn so it's ok!

We don't know too much as of now. I'd wait until the games actually come out before passing these kinds of judgement.

And honestly, if this issue is considered dealbreaking for you then I doubt anything they show will change your mind. I don't really think it's a big deal personally.

Oh yeah, those great names that aren't just two words slapped together, like Beedrill, Sandslash, Ninetales, Persian, Psyduck, Geodude, Seel, Dewgong, Krabby, Horsea, or Electabuzz, Hoothoot, Jumpluff, Qwilfish, Slugma, or Houndoom. There wasn't anything like that way back when.

Truly the golden age of Pokemon names, unlike today, grumble grumble...

edit: Beaten badly by Sats =P

I think the trainer is supposed to be behind his Pokemon.

Although I doubt the trainer will ever actually be shown in the battle scenes. Also, those are some ugly hands.

I don't know some of the older Pokémon had silly names like Articuno, Moltres, Zapdos, Seel, Spheal, etc.

Beside I don't tend to get worked up about Pokémon names as I usually nickname my team.
