New PS3 info coming at GDC

Was it really that stupid what i said :).

I'll never be one to damper another's mood. Especially in this case with the PS3 being highly anticipated. However, from an observational view, it's funny seeing the hype train go up and down. Everybody makes up their list about what they want to see at _________ expo, then, when news and pics come out, it's the same E3 demos, the same PS3 shell and the same controller, the same everything. Then the frustration comes, over time, the levels of frustration get higher and higher to the point that they reach a fever pitch. That is where we are now.

I cant wait until GDC. Id love to see some more games or new media of games that we know about. Soince there was soem new news about DMC4 maybe we will get to see that there. Id by thrilled if we got to see or hear anything new about MGS4, but I guess Kopnami are saving that for E3

GDC isn't a games show as such, really. As far as Harrison's keynote goes, you should be looking for information that would be of interest to PS3 game developers and publishers, not "here's our games, aren't they cool?". So things like perhaps the online strategy, opportunities for more independent development ala Live Arcade etc. any standards that Sony are going to impose, creative opportunties with PSP<->PS3 or the support for a second screen..that'd the type of information that one might expect, information that is general to the platform's strategy. I mean there MIGHT be a general showreel or something that he cranks up in his keynote to demonstrate the strength of support or whatever, but that asides I wouldn't expect much in terms of new game-specific detail or media.

Unless Kojima or the DMC4 team or whatever happen to be giving presentations on their development process or something, in which case they might show something off. But I don't think they are..

I wonder, with the relatively slow uptake of Xbox 360 (and slow sales season starting), Sony are opting to play a game of chicken with Nintendo? Or just wait until the absolute last moment before showing their hand - tactically rather than due to issues?

Nintendos DS lite was announced pretty suddenly, and look at the reaction in Japan

*The lights dim*
Suddenly a known track starts to play and in from the side comes Pyramid head and slay a pre-determined 'guest'.
People recover from the shock, realise it's a play and laught it off when suddenly a fresh Silent Hill movie trailer plays onscreen. People are takin it in greedily.
Then it sais, later this year... October, Silent Hill: Salem Witch-hunt PS3 exclusive launch title!
Cue industry changing trailer of divine awe. *people scream and rip of their shirts*

I whish.

You (and Blackie) misread what Henk said if you think that he's hyping up a particular expo or setting his expectations too high. He was actually asking a general question about why people do exactly what you describe when they already know the basic details for a product that isn't even released yet anyway. His english isn't that bad. When he said "better graphics" and "better online mode" he simply meant better in reference to current generation Playstation, not necessarily better than 360, so enough with the shock laughter because he's actually agreeing with you.

I think you give Nintendo too much credit. I highly doubt Sony is concerned with the Revolution.

I think in Japan they definitely are. There's no guarantee that the DS' runaway success will transfer over to the Revolution, but if it does, it's Sony's marketshare to lose.

I would expect no games or media shown for either company (N and Sony), what I would expect, is Phil Harrison to discuss the online integration and the network that is being put in place for PS3. The keynote is called "beyond the box" or something, isn't it? For Iwata, it is much tougher to guess. He must be tempted to show an example of Nintendo developed software that shows actual gameplay with the controller. I think Nintendo really needs to show what's possible when you start thinking outside of the normal convention of game design as it relates to the revmote.

What we'll probably get is just more hyperbole like we got at TGS. Always entertaining coming from Iwata anyway. His keynote at last years GDC had me captivated.

An attitude like this, that takes things for granted, is a recipe for failure. There's a well known saying that only the paranoid survive in business...
