New? Saint's Row (x360) Screens

Yeah but, Im sorry have to say this. This is a perfect example of an o.k. engine and bad art/design direction. This world looks dead and pale. Getting a game world to look as alive as the one in the GTA series is quite an accomplishment. And these guys are obviously nowhere near that.

Yeah because GTA games are always chock full of life no matter where you are. There seem to be a fair few peds in the distance and lord knows how much traffic in the direction the player is facing, but let's just ignore that possibility.

This is a pretty odd looking game...I played a bit of it a few months ago and the best thing about it was the distruction. The demo they had me playing had unlimited weapons and ammo, so I was encouraged the blow the living s--- out of everything. Take out a car and it's tires, door, bumper, etc. go flying. Felt nice.

The frame rate and crappy character models didn't.

I love these kinda games, but I'm not completely sold yet. I liked all the whacky side missions in GTA:SA, so while I hope this has some similarity to GTA in that sense, I'd like to see some major differences to set it apart. Fact is, I really know nothing about the game - so I'll probably give it a rental first before forking over 70 bucks.

If I wasn't absolutely certain you were talking out of your ass (which can be fun, I'll admit), I'd have to say You were catastrophically retarded. As in someone who needs help remembering to breath.

but back on subject, I like what I'm seeing, save for the THUGROOLZ style-choice for the main character. the textures are nice, as is the universal lighting and shadow system, and the physics system should provide lots of fun. Especially the explosions. Good geometry on the cars, too (when they're flying apart, that is).

So you have to think every time you breath?

go Saints row!

i was a bit exaggarating with the 'first gen' part, but this (and particulary that screen) really looks like something on the ps2

I'm glad this game exists because I'm sure it's motivating Rockstar to make next gen GTA ten times better this than rip-off could ever hope to be. Why can't we have more original takes on this type of game like Mercenaries and Crackdown?

I think it looks decent, hard to tell without seeing it in motion. Indoor looks shitty because it lacks variety. Whoever said this could be done on a PS2/Xbox is talking out of their ass.

I'm finding myself thinking this game could actually be fun. Much thanks to the physics. Otherwise it'd just be San Andreas with prettier graphics. Online multiplayer could be interesting too. Still, the game is disgusting in so many ways. Or well..one or two anyway.

IT'S A THUG LIFE Y'ALL

let's see

San andreas (XBOX):

Saint's Row (here's an old pic, without the implemented AA, but it gives you a good idea of the character detail)

Methinks your memory of the PS2's glory days is a bit glossed-over. It may not be the prettiest game, but if you TRULY think the PS2 or Xbox could handle this, you're on more crack than the main character.

I find the self-shadowing on everything pretty damn cool. Yeah, it's not the prettiest game announced but looks "fine" enough.

way to pick out a bad screenshot. How about these SA shots from xbox?

You can post every shot ever taken, it won't change the simple truth that GTA doesn't ever, ever, come close to looking like this:

I'm not sure about the gameplay yet but I actually think the graphics are quite good for the genre, the self shadowing is a nice touch and the character and car models look pretty good.
The character customization looks pretty cool too. From the look of it in videos it's almost like that Poser program, you can change pretty much everything, not only their body type but their faces, hair cuts and clothes etc. And yet the characters don't have that boring "customizable" look that they usually have when you can make your own characters. Great stuff.

Without discussing graphics, this game is such discusting market pandering. There was a preview video last year (from E3?)) where someone was narrating the gameplay and it was all described as nothing more that !!!EXTREEEME!!! GTA. More than that there was not an inch of humour, irony or any sort of disconnect described, all earnest violence.

It's puzzling to me that Volition with all their talent and history chose to make this type of game. I would have expected something more original from them, oh well. This game is supposed to be available in March, right? If the screenshots are any indication of how far along the game is, I don't think we see it before October.

It's hard to believe Volition went from Freespace 2 to this. Did most of the people involved leave?

edit: Only 35 single player missions? And based on the trailers I've seen so far this is about 99% gang war and 1% everything else. I always thought gun fights were the weakest part of GTA.

i think, if you guys are angry at 1up for taking some stuff from doac, you should be furious at this game.

I think this game might come close to having what GTA has... Hopefully there isn't a "catch", I hate it when there is a catch... I just wanna make money in the seediest ways possible...

just watched the trailer

how can people take this game seriously? the theme song is up there with the one piece dub's YAYOYAAAAAAAYOOOOOOOOOOO

this looks like a first-gen PS2 game.

:lol

Give me a break. At least the other haters had reasonable hate. This is ridiculous. And seriously, this is not a genre I'm into (GTA and its clones) but this game looks really good in motion. The lighting, animation, physics and explosions are pretty hawt.

What about the theme from the first GTA? That was pretty fucking awful aswell.

"Riding with me is my MC homeboy,
Knowing the rules aint part of his program,
Finding the right way around this map,
Might be pretty hard cos he's fucked on crack"

yes since the programmers and game designers wrote and produced that song too. blame thq for that one if anything. that video looks nice. as long as the city is a big as GTA 3 at the very least and you can truly sandbox around like in GTA i'm set.

set for what? 35 missions?

and dont give me that shit about the programmers and designers having nothing to do with the theme song. Even if they had no idea the song existed they still created something that is pretty much a direct copy of gta.

i dunno about you but the missions were completely secondary for me in any gta game. they got in the way if anything. the only reason i ever did missions was to open up more of the game to cause chaos on. going up on parking structures and high areas with a rocket launcher and the peds attacking codes in was more fun than any mission in the regular story.

exact same here. I dont like the missions in GTA games the most. It's more the overall fun factor of free roaming and listening to the radio.
