Holy shit, at all you people putting Enterprise over Voyager, that godawful fucking song alone was worse than anything that happened on Voyager.

Not to mention, people bring up the Transwarp space slugs episode of Voyager, and no doubt it was the worst star trek episode at the time, but Enterprise topped that with "These are the voyages...."

That song gets so much undeserved hate :lol

There was no episode in Enterprise called "These are the Voyages....". Again, there was no episode called "these are the voyages". The show ended with Terra Prime >.>

Yeah you see, Transwarp space slug orgy at least wasn't bad enough to be totally forgotten.

The Salamander episode at least had the courtesy of writing itself out of canon. These are the voyages not only cemented itself as canon but managed to potentially write every other enterprise episode out of canon.

It's been a long road,
To get from there to here.
It's been a long time,
but my time is finally here.

And I will see my dream
come alive at last.
I will touch the sky.
And they're not gonna hold
me down no more.
No they're not gonna change
my mind!

True story: my sister-in-law used that song at her wedding, not knowing it was the theme to Enterprise. You could tell who the Trek fans were by the looks on their faces when it started.

Until Insurrection when he turned it back on so we could get great scenes, like asking Worf about if his boobs felt any firmer.

Um, no.

In Generations it was established that the chip became fused to Data's positronic brain; it's there to stay.

By the time First Contact came along, Data developed the ability to turn it on and off. He switched it off once the Borg boarded the ship, but later the Borg Queen turned it back on.

In Insurrection, Geordi states that that Data "didn't take it with him". When the fuck did a chip that was fused in place become removable at will?

I hated how Insurrection wiped away years of development for Data to turn him into the comic relief clown of season 1.

Duet - Probably Nana Visitor's finest performance. I would recommend this episode to people who don't like sci-fi. I think that's the highest compliment I can give.
I actually just did this; she watched the episode yesterday, and I only asked her to watch this one episode. Her "review" of the episode:

Eh.

I thought that this whole episode was structured like a soap opera in space, but without love interests, amnesia, and long-lost lovers. Instead we had Dude who lies and says he's someone, so we think he's lying, because he CAN'T be who he says he is...then he says he is someone else, but we think he's lying again, because he CAN'T be that guy who died 6 years ago, but he says that he's finally telling the truth, so he has to be...but then he says he's that other guy again, but he really wants to be the second guy...but he needs to be the first guy to make peace, but he needs to be the second guy to please his own mind...

Oh. My. God. It is so melodramatic..."Major" (with the wrinkly nose?) starts fake crying within the second scene because she--sniff--can't stand the thought of all those--sniff--people being hurt, and--sniff--it just hurts her inside.

I appreciate the basic moral that is finally presented in the end when he is to be released...like how there needs to be at least one good Cardassian (?) to change things, or set an example, etc., but the rest of the episode came across like a Disney Channel movie.

Didn't enjoy it a whole lot.
:/

Since this thread was originally about Trek photos from Abrams' film and has now 'evolved' into general Trek franchise moaning and whinging shouldn't this be some kind of official Trek thread?

After all, every time it gets bumped I assume it's new film related info and instead I am confronted with someone's fundamentally flawed view that DS9 was somehow less than amazingly awesome.

Huh, I just checked Memory-Alpha and it would appear you are correct. Honestly that just makes Insurrection all the fucking worse.

I offered to make an official thread of everything Trek related, and asked if anybody thought it would be a good idea, and only Cheebs responded, saying it wasn't.

I still don't mind making it, though.

I just thought that cause there is no real news about the movie after the big media blitz a few weeks ago, probably will be that way for a while.

Well apparently we don't need news to keep this thread going.:lol

Yeah, I was just saying there is no harm in discussing anything trek releated while there is no news about the movie coming out. When marketing for the movie hits big time after christmas obviously that is a different story. But now? Who cares if we discuss DS9 or whatever when there is nothing else to say about the movie in this thread.

We need a general Star Trek thread somewhere, if for no other reason than I need a place to discuss my opinions of DS9 as I rewatch it.

Too many more episodes like The Passenger, though, and that may not be a problem. Does the doctor get gang-raped by a pack of Hortas at some point? Because I'd definitely hang in for that.

Then there might as well be a general Trek thread; if only for besada's sake. Hell, I'll make one right now.

@besada, hang in there. Remember season 1 of TNG? Yeah.

There is. But the real stomach churning stuff in that particular episode is the Bajoran politics sub plot.

I would agree with that assessment only in the fact that some of the lead up does diminish the end result. It might not be entirely obvious where he's going, but it is a bit obvious that he is lying and why he is lying. The episode could have used a few more wrinkles. I think I like the episode Dax more because it addresses one of those strange, impossible philosophical problems. However, I still think that Duet is a really solid episode, and if the rest of season one had been up to that caliber, then it would have been a better start. The problem with season one is that there are some really mediocre episodes in there.

I also think it would be better if there was a general Star Trek thread.

My problem with it was that they give away the main plot in the teaser. The moment he reached up and grabbed Bashir, I turned to my wife and said, "He's just transferred his consciousness to Bashir."

But it took the chick who had been transporting the evil guy -- who knew he could do this -- more than half of the episode to figure out what was going on. That's just sloppy writing.

I quite enjoyed the "Captive Pursuit" episode, as it really felt like a TOS episode. And I remember that I dig Odo, even if he can't figure out how to fake eyebrows. But I've dug Rene Auberjonois since Benson.

Did you make the official thread? Just finished watching TNG and I need to vent.

John Cho is in this? OMFG.... what's next? Kal Penn

I hate to say it but the remake looks good to me from what I've seen.
