New Street Fighter X Tekken trailer!

Capcom is selling the gem system so hard because they're trying everything in their power to distract the audience from the fact that it's nothing but a cheap milking setup.

TxSF character vote?

EVERYONE SPAM TWELVE AND Q

You honestly think you'd enjoy 12 and Q with tekken system mechanics? They'd play absolutely nothing like their 3s incarnation in a Tekken crossover game.

Like 99% of their fighters. Not defending this, but gems are not going to sell the game or give it a great reputation.

True about the reputation, but those fighting game fans are already debating whether or not gems should be played at the tournament level.

My thing is that nothing I've heard of the gem system seems that broken.

The pre-order shit is fucked up, so I understand that but the system itself seems to be fine.

Capcom has a history of milking, yes, but gems is just a new level of shamelessness. In this case, the cheapness is directly integrated into the game mechanics, as opposed to simply superficial aspects (ala costumes.) At least with previous efforts, the milked releases provided new content and an even playing field for competitors.

It's their distribution model that's fucked up.

I'm kinda happy the gems are the preorder bonus instead of costumes or something else

I feel absolutely zero pressure to buy this day 1 for them.

It's not really a new low for them, just this time they're giving the big fuck you to their core base as well as the usual everyone else.

If you look at how UMVC3 H&H is working out, you already know where gems are heading. A pointless broken mess. Only you have to pay for access to better gems. They aren't going to work and Ono and crew are doing their damn hardest not to give into the fans on this one.

They'll succumb though because they know this shit system isn't going to work, fighting games have enough balance issues as is.

Although I don't think gems are a good idea, I don't think UMvC3's H&H mode is indicative of gems. It's not like you've got gems giving you airdashes when you shouldn't have them, or parries, or whatever other silly stuff is going on.

H & H has it right in that it's an optional mode, though.

Within the context of SFxTK it's perfect example of what can go wrong.

Not really, since we haven't seen a case of a gem giving a person a move or properties they shouldn't have. Like, speed gems only affect movement, not specials and normal attacks.

I still haven't seen anything about them that are broken.....I mean you still got to hit certain qualifications before they activate. Meaning you can't exactly just hit buttons and win.

I agree it should have been an extra mode ( or at least the ability to play without them online via a selection thingy)

But once again as they are they don't seem broken.

Everyone who has played the game says it's awesome so since I'm no online warrior, i'm pretty pumped for it to play against my friends.

haven't seen anything yet to lead me to believe gems are broken. I think the reason most people are against them is the fact that they make a mess of tournaments cause they are dlc.

Here's a little nugget of info some of you might not know-
In CvSNK 2, when K-Groove activates, the player's character gets a 35% increase to their attack power (Special moves do 30% more damage and supers do 10% more damage), furthermore you get at 10% defense boost. ...and apparently K-Groove lasts for around 18 seconds

SFxT has Gems that activate when you take damage, but IIRC their boosts are 10% for Attack gems and 10% for defense gems. These gems last 20 seconds as well I believe. So in a way you can create K-Groove in SFxT =P

Oh and in case anyone's wondering where I got my info from-

Once your Meter builds up, you are allowed to perform only a
Level 3 Super Combo. That is all you are allowed with your Super
Meter in K-Groove because the K-Groove is just one, long Meter with no
tiers. So when it fills up, that means you are Raged and your
character will turn VERY Red. Not only are you allowed to perform a
Level 3 Super Combo at this point, you gain two other benefits: you
take less damage and you dish out MORE damage! When Raged, you take
12.5% less damage from enemy attacks, and you also dish out 35% MORE
DAMAGE. AND you do more Guard Damage as well! This is a huge benefit
of K-Groove. Becoming Raged practically raises your character another
Ratio!
