New Super Mario Bros. release date revealed!

If Mario Comes out the day of Nintendo's E3 conference I think this site will explode.
That day would be solid if not spectacular.

I'm really hoping it's the U.S. release date...if it's the Japanese one, then my guess would be U.S. release in August like Nintendogs :P

May 7th = two days before Nintendo's pre-E3 press conference, can't wait for what they'll say about it (and hopefully the DSL) launching. :)

I've been meaning to tell you your avatar makes me :lol

The ONLY thing sketchy about this date, in my view, is that it is Pre-E3. While I know that this is likely going to be an extremely Rev-heavy E3, I really don't see them not having the new Mario title feature prominently in their DS area. Therefore, I'd expect this to get pushed back a week or two.

That said, based on this, chances are that we'll be seeing the DS Lite and NSMB at the exact same time, regardless of the date.

Yeah, that's basically what will happen though sans the bundle IMO. Game will sell so much on it's own, why bundle it?

Nintendogs, Mario Kart, and Animal Crossing were all system sellers in my eyes, and they all had bundles. Nintendo is frickin' bundle happy, which is why I think we will see a bundle for this game.

What exactly are you all expecting out of this game? You act as if Nintendo hasn't made a platformer since Mario 3.
They haven't made a 2d mario platformer in 15 years. Thats not a big deal?

With SMS being a let-down Mario platformer wise, I've been looking forward to a game like this since SM64.

Was Super Mario land 2 really that long ago?

I'm expecting a side-scrolling Mario game that tops SMB3 and Super Mario World, with really catchy and memorable music. And new ideas that'll blow me away.

In the latest issue of Nintendo Power, there is an article that mentions New Super Mario Bros. will make it way out on May 7th. They do not state if this is a Japanese release date or the North American release date, but since they are an American magazine it is probably safe to assume that this could very well be a North American release date. However, this could also be a result of a mistake on Nintendo Power's part, they could have easily "forgotten" to mention that this is suppose to be the Japaense release date for the game since the game is currently scheduled to come out in May there. So my advice is to take this news with a grain of salt... at least until we get more official news about this, which we will let you know about ASAP. But I'd thought I'd post this news anyway for those interested in knowing about it.

Well either a complete self own or great news.

I hope its right.. but we have to remember, theyve had misprints with AC:WW Coming to the states early also..

But to the people who say "Its a Sunday" The biggest GBA Game last year came out on a Sunday ... Pokemon Emerald. Not to mention wasnt there big ass game last year Pokemon Emerald and in May as well?

I'll admit, despite my avatar, I've never been hugely into Mario platformers. I just get the feeling that you're all setting yourselves up for a major disappointment.

You'll be comparing this game to the games of your childhood directly. Nostalgia will win.

Yeah, even if this turns out to be GOTM there's no way anything can top childhood memories.

Nostalgia does not win in the battle between Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike and ANY STREET FIGHTER BEFORE IT (for me anyway).

I expect New Super Mario Bros. to follow suit. If not, I won't be terribly disappointed however.

Why would Nintendo Power give a Japanese date? It's not like their readers are totally ignorant that games often come out first over there.

This will be a Mario Kart deal. Out in the US first, by a week or so.

Everyone seems to have forgotten about Katamari DS. I don't doubt it's in Nintendo Power, but if it's really true and not a mistake.

There's a fairly large difference between announcing a third party title still in the planning/early development stages (where that developer can go back and decide to retool and revise the game, or has the option of canceling it altogether, which is out of the magazine's control), and announcing the release date for a game developed and published by the company putting out the magazine, when that game is clearly in the tail end of its development cycle and has a strong chance of being the system's biggest selling worldwide title to date.

I mean, come on now. Why does anyone think Nintendo Power would just be making an "oopsie!" mistake on this in terms of accidentally publishing the Japanese date, or just having bad information?

I was trying to remember which game NP announced (although it was just a title and not something as big as this) to bring that up, thank you.

Wow, a new 2D Mario game on May 7th, I'm getting excited.

Although not too excited, yet. Not sure if I can trust Kobun on this issue. ;)

Also, a Sunday release makes sense. This is going ot be a *huge* release for Nintendo. The game won't be shipping to stores May 7. It'll be in stores around May 3rd-May 5th and will have a protected release date to not sell until Sunday, May 7.

Nintendo probably has a ton of DS software in development for the fall season anyway, Mario is definitely going to be spring/summer.

Why sunday???

We all know no stores sold the DS on the Friday before it was supposed to launch. :P

I can't figure out what that second sentence means, but other than that I agree. If Emerald can be released on May 1st, no reason Mario can't be on May 7th.

Also, to a much lesser degree... Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones also came out in May, and the previous game almost sold half a million copies. So it's not like this is a completely foreign release timeframe for some of Nintendo's more important franchises.

Oh was just confirming that Pokemon Emerald was a humongus title in the US and it was released in May (as well as sunday brought up on the 1st sentence) :P

VISUALSHOCK! SPEEDSHOCK! SOUNDSHOCK! NOW IS THE TIME TO THE ARM7/9 HEART ON FIRE!

Imagine the reactions if new Mario felt rushed, and not worthy of the franchise?
I'd cry
Please, make me say wow!

They should of waited until Fall and added some more content. I think most of Nintendo products today are rushed and crappy, I hope alteast they don't crap out a new 2d mario game with butt quality.
