Okay, you read me complaining about fanboy reactions to that HOME thinggie yesterday?

Okay. I apologize for that because I am doing the holyshit****whatthe****wasthatallaboutthatwassimply****ingwowkillmenowokmaybenotuntiligetmyhandsonthisthingbutholyhowjesuschristonapogostick right now.

The fanboy in me wants to say gameover to the competition, but theres so much hot stuff on other consoles too that its hard to justify. But hot damn, I just creamed myself, game of the year is here

Amazing how we have gone years without a console Mario platformer and Nintendo gives us 2 in a year on the Wii. Mario is back baby!

Love the art style. Very pretty game, pretty well realized visually that at least doesn't feel like it's being held back by hardware. Might help justify nintendo's position to an extent, except it's pretty much by itself in this regard.

To offer some criticism: where's the gameplay? I don't see any significant gameplay challenges. I mostly see running around tiny orbs in fractured levels, and jumping on star cannon after star cannon to travel from one tiny orb to another. Obviously there's more to the game than that, and last year's E3 demo had some neat, slightly more complex stuff on display, but for this reason the trailer does not excite me at all outside of the art direction.
They showed a lot of the launches, but did you miss all the fights? Mario vs. the top in the electric field, Mario vs. giant fish head underwater, Mario vs. the giant pihrana egg plant, etc.? There is also the pointer stuff, even if you aren't interested in that aspect you definitely should have seen some gameplay.

Wow, just watched the vid. Its definitely one of the more polished Next Gen games I've seen up to this point. It seems like Nintendo are not working against the lack of graphical prowess but trying to mask it with neat graphical techniques. It looks absolutely great.

I still can't believe they do this kind of graph on Wii... How come no other Wii games can do this??

Not to mention that it looks like the Mario platformers are back to being GREAT games.

You're concerned about 'gameplay' from a Mario title???

The BIG question is WHY other developers cannot output this graphics !!!!!!!

I don't know how people aren't seeing gameplay here. There are plenty of enemies to fight, rolling rocks, rising fireballs, lava pits, Bullet Bills, etc. Pretty typical Mario stuff, just lots of "flying through space" shots thrown in there for show.

They're also focusing a lot on the "figure out the trick to each planet". Like finding out how to get the caterpillar out of the apple or cracking open the egg to fight the boss. Nothing super challenging, but interesting regardless.

Between this, LBP, and Ratchet it's nice to see some inspiration in the platforming genre.

Its hard to be impressed with this after seeing Little Big Planet. Doesn't look much different from last year, just a different level.

...

As if they needed this to sell more Wii's. I can't think of one scenario where the Wii doesn't go onto to become market leader. This game looks like all kinds of fun.

I really need to start reading beyond the third page of these threads.

DISSAPOINTMENT SEQUENCE COMMENCE. *cutcutcut*

I'm particularly fond of the grass shader, it looks very smooth. And it's nice to see Nintendo doing per-pixel-lighting, it makes everything look very clean.

Wow this game looks insane fun, very nice! :D

Galaxy and Smash Bros. Brawl are the reason I'm going to be picking up a Wii soon, can't wait!

Let's not forget that DKJB was one of the best looking GCN games despite its 2D perspective, so it's no surprise that this team knows what it's doing.

This view especially is incredible :

I mean, is that a collision between two freaking stars ?!

I absolutely can't wait to see what kind of incredible and surreal spacescapes they will show us in this game, because the possibilities are enormous.

Only Halo can beat the sales this game will have this fall. This Mario is a BIG Christmas system seller. Knowing SSMB will also be released in Q4, Nintendo better start stocking millions of wii.
