New Tomb Raider Footage - Monastery Escape

Welcome to the future, old man. Hyper sexualization and Porn everywhere.

Perhaps by "protect Lara" they meant people who think this looks good are going to need screen protectors for their TVs.

The dirt never washing off Lara is the laziest shit given the money poured into this game. How the fuck?

What is her face made out of for it to stain like that?

Yet she rises out of a muddy pond and her skin is like teflon.

Does Lara's clothes get wet in water? Even in Uncharted, you can only make Drake's clothes, mud and dirt doesn't appear, if it does, it doesn't wash off.

That's like the nitpickiest of nitpicks.

Any word on who is doing the PC version?

I think it is done in house.

Nothing specific, SE seems to be pushing stronger PC ports though and they said PC games would be very happy. Whatever the hell that means. As for the game, I think it looks pretty good.

GAF seems to latch on to certain games and overly nitpick them (Not saying that their is not legitimate grievances). Frankly Tomb Raider was a dead series and a reboot was severely needed.

I'm not seeing the problem here. They changed the camera angle to make the scene feel more claustrophobic. It's actually good camera work for a game. It's more effective than not changing the camera angle at all.

I think this may be getting to the fundamental disconnect we're having here. For many of us, narrative tension in a video game is meaningless and ineffective if it lacks player agency. It might as well be wallpaper.

I'm sure there are "dead" series out there that wish they could get 2.5 million sales in the latest entry.

I believe Nixxes is doing the PC port. Should be good.

The last three SE games I've played are Sleeping Dogs, Just Cause 2, and Hitman: Absolution. Each were very well optimzed for PC.

Hitman and Deus Ex are both really good ports, too.

You have no idea how much I hate this.

Lol, the funny thing is, i thought it was neat in Uncharted 2.
Now everytime i pipe breaks while i'm on it (with absolutely zero consequences, gameplay-wise) i immediately get this "Oh Jesus, just let me climb the damn thing and get it over with" feeling.

That looks terrible. It looks so generic and bland that I got bored and stopped watching shortly after the parachute. Just one ridiculous situation after another. What's wrong with slower-paced deliberate pacing in a game? How about less checkpoints or none at all? Why does it look like uncharted gears of lara?

It's like all the problems I have with high budget shooter/action/adventure games all in one package.

the problem is I want to play a fucking game, not experience the developers atrocious idea of 'narrative suspense' with a moment that has no actual tension because you know you will not die and you know you have no input on the outcome.

but we already know you don't actually want to play games, so you should drop the whole "I don't get the problem" pretense. We get it, Tricky - you hate anything that makes games what they are.

I don’t get the problem because I don’t think there is a problem.

Would you rather them not change the camera angle at all and just have it behind Lara? The camera angle switch is effective and adds to the immersion and presentation for me. It adds to the experience. It’s showing the player just how narrow the cave is and gives you that claustrophobic feel - something that you clearly don’t value whilst I do. Just because you can’t die doesn’t mean the tension is gone too – it’s similar to movies. When the main character is hunted by a killer........I can still feel tension even though I’m 99% sure they aren’t going to die. Anyway, I wouldn’t have thought it was really that big of a deal to be honest. Whether it changes or not seems like a really trivial thing to argue over. The game clearly isn't for you.

No cause that's what it is, a movie

It's like the beginning of Bioshock where it shows you recovering in the water from the crash an a ton of plane debris hitting the water around you. Great and all but it lasted a few seconds and was pretty much a cutscene. It didn't last for five minutes.

Why not just make it a cutscene? Why drag on some cinematic nonsense you can't do much in? At least when Laura falls down the river you can control her

That game lacks athomsphere and mystery, isolation and exploration. Everyting I found appealing about the original Tomp Raider.

The only hope I have is that the game bombs. It looks boring. I hope that every COD clone or Uncharted clone (like this one) or God of War clone bombs from now on.

I hope they bomb so hard that it shakes the foundations of the current gaming industry.

All I want is more variety, more innovation and great ideas. But mostly variety!

I want games to look, play and feel different!

Get with the times POPS!

It's all about emotional drama and super cinematic button pressing scenes and nailing into your brain how unfortunate Laura's situation is.

Isolation and exploration, doesn't appeal to modern day SORRY!

I'm not convinced by this game. This one will need a hell lot of good reviews to make me buy it.

edit: I see lot of negativity in this thread. I didn't even read the thread before posting my feeling on the game.

It's funny: devs still don't get that if you're just walking through scripted sequences in which you have little to no actual input in the outcome, there is no tension!

Over/under on the fact that as the water rises, you're never in any actual danger. But it'll sure LOOK neat! Yay! Just like that Uncharted 3 scene where water is rushing after you, and you might as well have gone to sleep with how much danger it presented.

You know, thinking about it I don't have much of a problem with these types of sequences, if used in moderation. An efficient use could be if you're exploring an area, get into a cave where you got to crawl through like this and when you get out the camera pans and you find the entrance to a long forgotten tomb it would be fine and could help with atmosphere.

But these types of things should only happen a few times in a game at max instead of filling the game with it.

Please tell me you're trolling.

I've finally convinced myself not to get this game after hours of scrutiny. It doesn't just look derivative, but horrible gameplay wise. Hopefully, it either bombs and gets put in the hands of a more competent developer or Naughty Dog make an Uncharted spin-off featuring Chloe. I need my female tomb raiding fix maaan!

I am going to get it cause I'm going to have a ton of fun doing live commentary then a video review.

It seems Lara's face has changed a little. I prefer this one I have to say.

The artbook is probably going to be more interesting than the game.

Sounds like a noble goal to me. We should all be hoping the same.

Even if they are trolling, I mostly agree with them.

That game looks boring as heck. Right now it looks like a solid 6/10.

You know, I played Antichamber and Battlefield 3 this weekend. I can't possibly think of any other point in the history videogames where I can say I played two completely different games and that both games were successful financially. Saying all games are the same is complete nonsense.

I really, really did love the reboot concept art... now that I've actually seen the game some of the luster is worn off, but I still do enjoy the art.

It's poorly translated into the game (in-game Lara looks quite different, especially her proportions) and of course the game is just a bloody abortion of the franchise, but hey... that art was pretty neat.

Well, 2 games isn't a great body of evidence to work with.

Antichamber isn't a AAA title with a major publisher behind it. No one is arguing that all games are the same. Some of us are arguing that there's a population of predictable, financially safe (presumptuous as that may be on the part of the publisher), me-too, milk-the-demographic games that are increasingly interchangable.

Must say, I googled Antichamber and now I'm intrigued. Love me a good puzzle game. May end up spending some time giving that a whirl if this game ends up full of the Scooby Doo puzzles I'm fearing it will.

Never really liked the Lara Croft character. Shame since this looks like a really good game.

The point is that there is clearly a vast array games out right now and if you don't like a style of game, don't play it.

Follow the leader is hardly anything new to the gaming industry. Remember all the nameless mascots of the 8 and 16 bit era? How about when every game was trying to have open world segments like GTA III? This isn't anything new.

Antichamber is great. It requires you to think a lot.
