I was hoping they'd jazz up some of the open space that's in the previous levels. The school shots (with almost no difference from the original in terms of construction) show that this is much more of an HD remaster than any kind of remake.

I'd probably play each level once or twice and then wish it was Tony Hawk 2 or 3 HD...

It is a return to the gameplay of the original games in the series, predating Tony Hawk: Ride, and as such will only be played using a standard controller.

The game is not an HD porting of the original Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, but rather an amalgamation of levels collected from the first two installments, remade in a completely new engine for the PS3 and Xbox 360.

Okay, so this sounds potentially like a lesser game than 2X for content (songs, levels), but it does look nicer. Is the level of control and maneuvers up to the pre-Skate THPS games or is it back to THPS2 and before?

I still think they should give it another name.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD implies it's the original game in HD.
But it's not. It's a full-blown remake with a different engine, different graphics, different audio, different characters, etc.
