New Trek Is Called Star Trek Discovery

I guess I can see the old rumour of it being post Undiscovered Country being true. The ship looks a bit old school to be after TNG.

The klingon look to the ship could be from some short lived post treaty joint federation/klingon partnership to build a thing.

If this is post Enterprise and pre-TOS, I wonder if Mako would still be around... It would have pretty cool implications given the new film.
Nah, this looks like a Federation Starfleet ship, not UE Starfleet, so if the Federation is around then the MACOs are disbanded/integrated into Starfleet.

if this is a boring shitfest again like everything pre picard im not interessted. Id like to see something even bexond voyager in timeline.

Shit CGI, tragic ship design.
Why should I care when they don't?

Looks like a hybrid ship to me, kinda half Federation , half Klingon.

I hate the thought of the series going back again, if it really is post-Enterprise and pre-TOS. That's why I never really liked Enterprise; it felt so small after DS9's and Voyager's incredible world building. Maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised, though.

Yeah star trek fans (for the most part) see the new films as little more than something pointing more eyes at trek and in every other way are disappointing lowest common denominator garbage

Bull. Shit. I am a lifelong Trek fan who initially got into it via TNG and DS9. This is not true at all. Star Trek Beyond was a great Trek film, it represented the franchise fantastically.

Ugliest Starfleet ship ever.

I don't know. The Chakotway Class ship (Yeager Class) still exists. It's literally a cut together mashup of Janeway's Voyagers and Chakotay's Maquis Raider...

I believe the only Star Trek shipdesign that i immediately loved was the Enterprise E. Sexiest starship ever. We will get used to this one though.

Yep I love that ship as well, way better than the TNG (Galaxy) ship and that weird mouth deflector dish.

Rumors suggest they advance in the timeline during the seasons. So maybe the ship is time traveling or something.

But the rumour was that each season would be a different crew, so it's probably a different ship and crew each season, doubt it involves time traveling, but who knows.

Anyway, I'm a huge star trek fan, so any new show is good news for me, the teaser piqued my interest, the ship looks definitely like a warship to me, and the numbering and secret asteroid base leads me to believe it might be related to section 31.

Interview about the ships design and theme of the show

When Trekmovie.com asked Kadin if the teaser for Star Trek: Discovery featured the final design of the ship, music, and logo, she laughed and said

“NO! I was surprised Bryan didn’t say that, actually. I mean, we had three weeks to throw that together. We wanted to show fans…we’re super-excited by the score that this amazing composer, Fil Eisler, threw together as an audition and he did an incredible job. The concepts of the ship are totally what we’re going for and they’ll be honed up until, I think, the day we deliver.”

The Hall H panel on Star Trek’s 50th Anniversary and the press conference very much focused on the franchise’s role in pushing boundaries and promoting a better future, which is something that is clearly on Discovery showrunner Fuller’s mind. He said,

“The state of this country right now terrifies me and saddens me and I feel like we need something like Star Trek to remind us that, collectively as a human race we’re going to get our shit together, and we’re going to build a better future, and we have to start working much harder on that today.”

Nice, they are saying all the right things.

Indeed. The world needs an optimistic Trek right now, showing everyone of all backgrounds working and achieving great things together. It needs to be aspirational and inspiring in the ways that the original series was in the 60s.

I just realized that we know for a fact that the Klingon Empire joins the Federation by the end of the 26th century.

How do we know this? I was just discussing this with a friend of mine. He insisted there was no way the empire joins the federation, at best, some klingon worlds did that declared independence from the empire.

From the Enterprise episode called "Azati Prime" (S03E18):

DANIELS: It's getting harder and harder to surprise you, Captain. (the ship shakes from an impact) I've brought you to a monumental moment in history, the battle of Procyon Five, where the Federation engaged the Sphere Builders.

ARCHER: The Federation? You've mentioned them before.

DANIELS: Vulcans, Andorians, Ithenites, Klingons. Dozens of species, including humans, all unified in a powerful alliance.

From the Enterprise episode called "Azati Prime" (S03E18):

The klingons were involved due to the effects of the temporal cold war, and at this point we have no idea if the prime universe is going doen the timeline where the coldwar is inevitable or if enterprise repaired the timeline and the future we saw in Enterprise no longer exist. Personally I'd assume the latter.

CGI looks bad and I really dislike the ship design. Don't like how fat in the ass it is and always prefer the designs with a big saucer. In this one it looks way smaller compared to the back end.

As long as the rest is good I can put up with it I guess. Meh =/

I feel like Post- ENT and Pre-TOS is optimal timing. You can show the development of the Federation from its infancy as it struggles to reach the ideals it is supposed to represent. Overcoming the effects of the Earth-Romulan war etc.

Star Trek set in the future is basically perfect society gets challenged by Alien X,Y,Z who hates everything the federation stand for over and over. Going back you can still show a society struggling to reach the ideals that are supposed to inspire while also going where no one has gone before.

Big bummer there. :( One of my biggest curiosities is who will be scoring the show. Hoping Bear McCreary will be offered the gig.
I enjoyed his work on The Walking Dead and Agents of SHIELD, but I'm pretty sure theY said the guy who did the music for the teaser is doing it for the show, which isn't terrible, reminds me a lot of the Goldsmith era stuff.

I'm not a fan and the music here sounds more like modern-day trailer stuff (in the Zimmer vein) than anything Goldsmith wrote. That said, I really have no idea what direction they're planning on taking this show musically. I'd prefer a more orchestral approach but who knows?

TrekCore did a piece three years ago detailing the potential idea of a Deep Space Nine HD remaster. When it came to the 3D models, the originals used in later seasons of the show still existed. They look great when rerendered with a modern computer.

Here's a bit from Memory-Alpha on the first season of the TOS remaster:
The first few episodes were rushed, as CBS only gave its team "one month to deliver the first two episodes with over 120 new effects shots." Starting with "The Trouble with Tribbles", a new, improved Enterprise model was used. Members of the effects team have commented that they may go back to the earlier episodes and re-render the ship scenes with the new model, [5] [6] though that did not come to fruition.

The point is, people worked with way less with very little time and they pulled off great things. I'm reading that they spent three weeks making this teaser footage for Comic-Con? No wonder they're getting their lawyers on YouTube fanfilms.

Ideed.
I want see a serie where if some crew member tell a "strange/crazy story" the other member listen to him and investigate and don't try dismiss it from the start. So crazy that such thing is uncommon lol

I meant more in the vein of the incedental music that was in the show, though, I'm not sure if Jerry did that as well?
