New Wii U Firmware (12/04/2012)

Miiverse times (from click to fully loaded with all images). Between batches I fully turned off the system and turned it back on.

batch 1:
1st load: 18.4 seconds
2nd load: 14.2 seconds
3rd load: 14.6 seconds

batch 2:
1st load: 17.4
2nd load:14.4
3rd load:14.5

Can you do the miiverse load from a fresh restart versus a second time?

Updating... took 2 minutes to get to 53%. What is going on with Nintendo's servers? The discrepancy in download/update times is pretty crazy.

Apparently my Wii U downloaded the update the last time I turned it on briefly because it just applied it when I turned it on. No wait for me, yay!

Perhaps it downloaded partially in the background without you noticing?

Also completely off topic, holy crap it's Bulerias, I miss the old days on TBT... <3 Twilightking

After the update my Nintendoland doesn't communicate with Miiverse anymore. Nobody's messages are in the game, when I tap any of the players walking around it says "When Miiverse is on" but it is on.

:/

Let's not turn this into a flame topic please...

Anyone else testing miiverse load times and seeing their first load on system turn on, and subsequent ones? I want to know if my "18 second" time (and consistently 14 after the first time) is just something wrong with mine or what.

ha I went to post a screenshot of getting all the stars in a world in Mario, and saw in X on my download management as it failed somehow. Then it started right up again. d/l decently fast.

Yeah, mine crapped out while playing Nintendo Land. Picked up where it left off and seems to be moving much faster now.

Fixes lockups, does it not? Hoping it deals with my AC3 lockups. I swear the game has a 30% chance to lock the system when I press the home button.

Dunno, haven't gotten a chance to fully test it myself yet. I will before the nights out... but I was hoping to get a couple multiplayer games first... no luck.

As for someone saying Nintendo is the new sony.... As far as I know, this update doesn't block any piracy techniques while covering it up and calling it "system stability"... but who knows, maybe Marcan's words scared Nintendo enough to do a full security sweep of their code.

The update took 45 minutes to download. The install took close to 15 minutes.

edit : loading up Miiverse for the first time takes about 15 seconds for me.

I don't have a Wii U, but these update sizes are huge! This will probably take an hour with my 300 KBps max speed at the minimum! Thankfully my 3DS and Vita aren't like that. I wonder if the 8GB is enough after many years of update.

These first updates are likely to be bigger than most of the others... if you get a Wii U well after TVii comes out, they should be preinstalled.

I had the same problem too yesterday when I picked up the game locking up almost every time it I hit home or paused: for what it's worth post patch I didn't have any issues throughout the hour I played today.

Gonna be bannable soon, I'd assume.

Fresh out of humor but I see trolling is in stock though.

The NeoGAF guarantee: advertised trolling always in stock for the first hour of every thread.

lol

you guys surely didn't follow the WUST's for being as defensive as you are for Nintendo/WiiU, or you'd know i've been following WiiU since day one, already bought the console and have rather plainly been defending Nintendo's hardware choices. I was a Wii only gamer btw, while i've had a PC in my living room for two years now, with a 2600K, 16GB RAM and a HD4890... on which i do not game. Does that tell you something?

So while i may be fresh out of humor, you all need to get a sarcasm detector. It was a stab at the usual trolls. I thought that would have been clear.

3DS update: took 20 seconds
WiiU update: took 1 hour and 2 minutes

After the update I downloaded the FIFA 13 demo (roughly 1.2 GB) and it only took around 40 minutes...maybe the update somehow optimized the download speeds?

Game downloads and server updates probably happen from different servers.

I just want hard locks to stop. Everything else can come later. It's a real mood-killer when you're having a blast with your friends in Nintendoland and suddenly the game locks up. =l

Turned on Wii Woo, went to download manager on gamepad to check on update; gamepad screen is stuck on a white background with a blue icon that says "Download Manager". Can't back out of it or anything.

Is it busted?
