Next Castlevania won't be done by Mercury Steam

So, Double Helix Games?

Well them or...

Ninja Theory, your time has come

Srsly guys. Imagine a 3D Vania by Platinum Games. I'd...I couldn't handle the win.

I mean it could turn out good but I've yet to play a game from PG with anything that even remotely resembles good level design. They kill it when it comes to the combat system and bosses for the most part, but I need CV to be more than a good combat system and bosses.

Order of Ecclesia is, in my opinion the best Castlevania game ever made. I love it that much. And I found it to be quite a departure for IGA. It was the perfect mixture of old 'vania and new 'vania.

I'd recommend not arguing with PlanetSmasher. He has a weird hate of handheld games for some reason.

IGA has secretly been working on BRAND NEW SKELETON SPRITES himself, and now it's time they made their debut!

Seriously, I want a 2D HD Castlevania with totally new spritework.

I'm starting to doubt you've ever actually played an IGAvania.

Except I've played all of them, and that's precisely the problem. And he has been recycling sprites from as far back as Rondo of Blood, even in Ecclesia.

Symphony of the Night is one of my favorite games of all time. That doesn't mean I want the series to just be an endless string of clones of SotN, though.

Like I said, I think I had just had enough of his style after Circle, Dissonance, Aria, Dawn, and Portrait all ended up feeling like the same game with slightly different skins. Ecclesia felt the same way, only it had the added "bonus" of being unbelievably, dickishly hard for the first few hours.

I really want IGA to put some actual effort into the visuals, and I don't think that's going to happen with a 3DS game. It'll be low res sprites yet again, and the series deserves better by now. If they put it on the Vita and redraw everything, I might be interested...but that's about it.

I would really, really prefer the next Metroidvania game to be on a console, though. It's insulting that (not counting LoS since it's not part of the main timeline) the series hasn't had a proper installment on a console for over a decade.

Dream:
2Dvania by Arc System Works
3Dvania by Platinum Games

I'm curious to see what's next from Mercury Steam. They're pretty talented with a little helping guidance, and they were on the system developers slide at the PS4 unveiling, so I hope Konami is keeping them employed.

well we already knew about that, which is sad in itself, but good at the same time.

Sad cause Lords of Shadow is one of the best titles I ever played, still playing it to this day, heck I am replaying it right now.

Good cause they are actually ending strong, MercurySteam said it before, they got a story, they will tell it and move on to something else ((which I will probably support anyway)).

well I kinda wanted to play as Gandolfi, see the Founders of the Brotherhood face against Satan and hell, and see the Necromantic War, but oh well, LoS Sage will end strong and not derail like God of War Ascension.

=========

As for the next 3D Castlevania, I say give it to Crytek Austin, the people from Vigil the ones behind DarkSiders can really nail a good Castlevania.

I like the Mercury Steam games. I'm also crossing my fingers that Iga will be back to give us a 3DS Igavania. A sprite based one, at that. With multiple castles. And Julius motherfucking Belmont.

LOL. I bet Double Helix will get something old that needs a reboot like Battletoads, Jet Force Gemini, Banjo Kazooie, Megaman, Gradius, or Contra.

By the way... why isn't there a dudebro Contra yet?

Konami canceled the one that Yaeger (the Spec Ops: The Line devs) was working on, so I'm guessing that they saw that the field is too crowded for the game to rely entirely on its legacy.

Eh... I like Platinum and all, but as said before, (Good) CV games are all about the level design, and I'm not convinced they'd be up to the task in those regards.

I'd love to see Treasure on a 2D game more than anything, though.

Probably developing Suikoden 6.

This is good news. Mercury Steam developed Castlevanias have been shit and didn't even feel like Castlevania games. They are so fucking uninspired.

Hopefully we'll get a new 3DS game with good game-mechanics, great music and good atmosphere.

They are very much employed don't worry, Konami praised LoS.1 sales and reception.

Also MercurySteam/Dave Cox said they are interested in making a Contra title, they have a few ideas, so maybe that will be their next project.

Can we go back to real Castlevania games now please?
If by "real" you mean Metroid-vanias, hopefully not. There have been at least 10 of them since SotN.

However, I do hope that we see a return to "real" Castlevania games in terms of linear 2D action platformers (which would be a perfect fit for an digital download). Though no Castlevania game will ever best Super Castlevania IV, I'd at least like to see someone try.

It's time Konami hires From Software for the Castlevania X Souls crossover. They can call it Wicked Souls, with a new arrangement of Wicked Child.

Oh, come on. Lords of Shadow was a great game. It wasn't a Metroidvania, but the series doesn't need an explorable map to be a Castlevania game. It had vampires, castles, holy water, whips and breaking candles to get hearts.

You want to talk about uninspired? How about Igarashi basically remaking Symphony of the Night (a game he did not even create) over and over and over again with only the barest tweaks to the gameplay and visual style for the past fifteen years? I mean, I love SotN and I love Metroidvanias, but come on. IGA is not a saint.

I already said it in the other thread: guys, please read the article. The author seemingly confused a quote. No one was talking about the next Castlevania, Cox was talking about Mercury Steam's next project. That's what it sounds to me at least.

There is no hint of the next Castlevania game to be found in these quotes.

Also, LoS was the best Castlevania game since SotN.

I can't imagine Konami going back to 2D spritework. Maybe a handheld/smartphone entry by (whatever's left of) Igarashi's team.

As for a console game, I guess Ninja Theory isn't a bad guess.

Please let this mean we're going to get a new 2D 'Vania game.

MercurySteam did good work, though...I wonder why they'd move away from them.

THIS x 1000. HoD even re-used all the same assets, for goodness sake. Were there even any new sprites in the game?

I don't necessarily need a new IGAvania. (Despite SOTN being my favorite game ever)

I'd like to see Castlevania go back to it's roots and have the qualities what the series is known for. This includes agressive music with memorable melodies, dark atmosphere with great art and design, tight gameplay etc. LoS was lacking in these departments.

At least IGAvanias had great music by Kojima, nice sprite-art and tight gameplay.
