All: Microtransactions

Doesn't the Wii have component at launch? It just seems like the issue is that they aren't as readily available as they should be.

I'm still baffled Sony didn't include a scaler considering the many TVs that only support a specific resolution and can't convert from another. They need to at least force developers to provide 1080 as native resolution for their games.

No HD cables in the ps3, 500-600 dollar price.

Wii: Weak ass hardware

360: 3 rings of death, microrapements, patches.

- Wii Weather / News not ready for launch

PS3:

- Massive supply issues
- No Motorstorm for launch

Xbox360
-No RPG's = Complete failure in Japan...Again

Wii
-$50 games? No thanks i'll wait till they're $20-$30

PS3

Except this time the jRPGs are coming. The mistake was to launch the console without any of these big RPGs available.

PS3:
Dual SKU. Kinda pointless with the swappable HDD and it just confuses people.
No background downloading. Should have learned from MS' mistake.
Composit cables.

360:
Excessive accessory prices. $100 wireless thingy? $60 for 256m card? $100 HDD? Wha?
Not setting some kind of standard for microtransactions. Allowing Lumines Live to go out over Arcade.
XBox Live Arcade - no release awareness in advance.
The ****ing d-pad on the controller.

Wii
"if you don't have anything nice to say...."

Xbox 360
- Microsoft still doesn't know what the Canadian exchange rate is.
- Buggy hardware.
- Live isn't free.
- $130 for a 20GB hard drive.

Wii
- 480p max.
- Games seem too simplistic, no depth.
- No push for online gaming.
- You can see a drought coming a mile away.

PS3
- Scaler issues.
- Initial cost.
- No Motorstorm at launch.

Sony:
-price.
-no scaler (possible this could be fixed in a firmware update).
-no rumble.
-the inevitable microtransactions.
-expensive games.

360:
-price in canada not reflecting the current exchange rate
-continuing to ship unrealiable hardware.
-making the harddrive optional.
-live not free.
-microtransactions.
-expensive games.

Wii:
-underpowered.
-2 big anticipated titles not going to be available within launch window (mario and metroid).
-possible microtransactions.
-questionable price for some virtual console games.
-unable to play dvd movies.

This should be in one of their next firmware upgrades. They can't allow something like that to go long without being fixed.

X360:

Backwards Compatibility is gimped
XBLA releases are too few and far between and quality is spotty at best
Microtransactions

PS3:

No scaler...wtf Sony
Not as powerful as the price suggests
Emphasis on BluRay when the emphasis should have been on games
No rumble

Wii

No component cables...just stupid
VC prices are too high
No enforced 480p/widescreen for all games
Price is right but the hardware isn't good enough

Can't be fixed with firmware, can it? Without a dedicated scaler chip, changing resolutions on the fly would take too much power away from the game.

There is no way to give good ratings to Microsoft or Sony on their launches, both were extreme ****-ups IMO.

- Region Lock (enough with it, expecially on VC)

MS
- Hardware faults beyond decency

I changed from monitor scaling to display adaptor scaling on my old lcd monitor because the monitors scaling was crap. And I think the scaling is done purely in the driver for nvidia cards and I never noticed any peformance drop. And that was on a much weaker computer than what I have now.

I don't even know where to begin honestly, but I will sure as hell make a list cuz they are fun. :D

PS3 (get this out of the way early):

*Price tag
*1080/720P Downscaling fiasco (possible fix with firmware)
*Botched launch (software line up poor)
*No component cables with box
*Massive shortages
*2 SKUs
*Inevitable Microtransactions + PS store likely to be expensive
*$60 games
*Lack of rumble (I personally don't care but its something that everyone should consider a "blunder" anyway)
*Overhyped product with REALLY bad PR and events
*Controllers+Accessories overpriced

360

*Backwards compatibility sucks
*Live split into 2 categories - Silver cannot play online games
*Botched launch (on par with PS3 if PS3 hardware doesn't fcuk up like 360's)
*Shortages at launch
*2 SKUs
*No HD standard among the 2 SKUs
*Microstransactions
*$60 games
*Questionable HD-DVD add-on
*Xbox Live Arcade too expensive and a bit spotty in functionality
*Controllers+Accessories overpriced

Wii

*Zelda GCN/Wii fiasco
*Not marketed to the hardcore gamers
*VC prices are high
*Controller split into 2 parts and you pay seperately
*Essentially a GCN1.5 in terms of performance
*Line up after Zelda not promising aside from the standard Nintendo franchises
*No HD functionality
*Unable to play DVD movies
*A lot of non-game crap with low depth that still costs $50
*Price of console spiked by packing in Wii Sports that most hardcore games do not care for
*Not really region free

I listed 11 for each...

Maybe it can be fixed then. Has sony even commented on the issues yet?

PS3 (get this out of the way early):

*Price tag
*1080/720P Downscaling fiasco (possible fix with firmware)
*Botched launch (software line up poor)
*No component cables with box
*Massive shortages Worse than 360's it seems
*2 SKUs Not as bad as 360's
*Inevitable Microtransactions + PS store likely to be expensive
*$60 games
*Lack of rumble (I personally don't care but its something that everyone should consider a "blunder" anyway)
*Overhyped product with REALLY bad PR and events

*Live split into 2 categories - Silver cannot play online games
*Botched launch (on par with PS3 if PS3 hardware doesn't fcuk up like 360's)
*Shortages at launch
*2 SKUs This is worse than Sony's 2-sku deal because the sku's are farther apart on features with 360.
*No HD standard among the 2 SKUs
*Microstransactions
*$60 games
*Questionable HD-DVD add-on
*Xbox Live Arcade too expensive and a bit spotty in functionality
*Controllers+Accessories overpriced
*Not region free - if this is a blunder for Nintendo, it's also a blunder for MS

Wii

*Zelda GCN/Wii fiasco
*Not marketed to the hardcore gamers
*VC prices are high This is debatable. $5 for an NES game on a console versus the $20 handheld version... this is a much better deal. 800 for SNES games is a mistake though, it should be the much more aesthetically pleasing 750.
*Controller split into 2 parts and you pay seperately The two parts isn't the problem, the fact that they don't come together is, or that they're too expensive individually (yet, they are much cheaper in Japan
*Essentially a GCN1.5 in terms of performance
*Line up after Zelda not promising aside from the standard Nintendo franchises This is a matter of personal taste and can be said for all 3 consoles
*No HD functionality
*Unable to play DVD movies
*A lot of non-game crap with low depth that still costs $50 I'm not sure what you are referring to specifically, but the value of non-games is in the eye of the beholder
*Price of console spiked by packing in Wii Sports that most hardcore games do not care for It's very possible that it could have been $250 without a pack-in. Remember, it would sell out at $250 either way
*Not really region free
*No online gameplay at launch

I listed 11 for each...
I made some comments and added some stuff.

Xbox 360:
--Shooters, shooters and more shooters
--Why the fock is it still $400?
--Why isn't Live free yet?
--Ugly ass add-on HD-DVD player

Wii:
--Overclocked GameCube
--Wiimote is a gimmick
--Should have been $100 with those graphics

PS3:
--Built on lies and deception
--No one worth a damn cares about Blu-Ray.

X-Box 360, fault of Microsoft:
-$200 too much
-Live costs money
-$60 games
-Bad launch

X-Box 360, not fault of Microsoft:
-Not enough diversity of game genres
-Not enough 2D gaming

PS3, fault of Sony:
-$400 too much
-$400 too much
-Microtransactions
-$60 games
-Bad launch
-No rumble

PS3, not fault of Sony:
-Not enough 2D gaming

Wii, fault of Nintendo:
-$100 too much
-Gray logo
-Region-locked VC
-No rechargeable batteries for Wiimote
-Mandates Wiimote usage in games that may not be better off for it

That's about it. Everything else is really incidental and easily-marginalized by my tastes.

Wii
-failure to have games for their supposed new target market

-hundreds of dollars of controlers to play with your friends which is what N consoles are good for.
-not enough killer aps at launch
