Next gen Mortal Kombat: Your wishlist

Animations that are made up of more then 3 frames? I get it's a throwback to times with major technical limitations...but hello. It's 2014...i think we can have moves that flow a little better.
 
1. Expand story mode.. no more of that character chapter stuff, make it branching paths, do something to make it more interactive with the player.

2. Keep most of the MK9 cast... except for...

3. Cyber Sub-Zero. Get rid of him and never bring him back.

4. Gameplay just try to balance it out more

(Sorry, REALLY hated that decision in MK9)
 
If we're talking about tournaments then you have a point, but most of us only participate in pick up matches online. I couldn't count how many times I've been in a king of the hill match where one dude dominating by spamming with Deathstroke's machine gun. Plus the hitboxes are so inconsistent that the wake up game is a joke on cross ups.


Zoning is always going to be a problem for casual online players. Who do you play? Some characters can straight up punish DS guns on block.
 
Figured I'd post in more detail...

-Same cast from MK9
-New characters that aren't ninjas (how about a grappler?)
-Not every character needs a fireball
-Don't add run, keep game pace as it is
-Copy online modes from SFIV
-Story mode with completely new story
-All characters have classic costumes, current costumes, and alts
-Enhance normals for each character
-Better netcode
-Replay system
Don't know what else.
 
I want a new take on 'Quan Chi on the sax'.

Or even better, a music mini-clip, something like 'Cooking with Scorpion'.
 
It needs team battle. That's all I want. 2 v 2 just like it worked in MK9 tag in your partner whenever you want. That mode needs to be in every fighting game. It made the game for me. Getting three friends together and playing was the best.
 
Change the clunky MK fighting system, make it more like Killer Instinct or Street Fighter. No more shooting fireballs with the kick button. Let the motions for move make sense and easy to remember.

I love the MK characters, world, story and etc, but the core gameplay just doesn't feel as good as other fighters.

Basically this. They need to start over and copy SF4 to the degree than Killer Instinct has. Dial back dial-a-combo (target combos?), get rid of the block button, and last but definitely foremost, hire better artists and animators. MK9 felt like a half step in the right direction.

As much as I like Scorpion, Subzero and friends, the solo content, the world they built etc., I can never get past the (to me)extremely clunky animations, the dial a combo timing, the 3d hitboxes, 3 basic silhouettes for 40 characters, pre-canned 30 combo strings instead of simple move properties that naturally strings together, and more.

At least MK9 was a big advancement, it had special cancels and some universal combo rules(juggles, special cancels, wallbounces) that at least tried to unify it a bit, and Injustice finally made them drop the block button.

But really, I'd be happy as pig shit if they did what KI did; take the foundation of Street Fighter/JPN fighters and add some of your own crazy original stuff over it.

For the people suggesting that the new MK be more like Injustice GTFO! Injustice is one of the most imbalanced fighters ever (Deathstroke says "Hi"). Don't get me wrong it's fun, but it's damn near broken with the janky ass hit boxes. I play it nightly on PS4 because it's the only fighter available on that system.

games shouldn't be balanced around casuals and/or scrubs if they aim to be competitive (which is what injustice was aiming for).

Deathstroke is not imbalanced. Shit is like complaining about yukiko/elizabeth in p4a, Sim/guile in SSF4AE, and Arthur/deadpool in MvC3

If deathstroke is being you with just guns then guess what? You suck. DS shouldn't get a nerf just because you don't want to learn the counter to it and there are plenty of counters to it.
 
My number one wish for MK is to make fatalities based on your opponent instead of your character. That way i don't have to look at the same stuff over and over again.

Or at least make it an addition to the fatality list.

One personal one and one based on your opponent.

Example: when fighting reptile, you can strangle him with his own tongue. Any character can perform that animation on him.
 
It's not that unbalanced. Tournament results are super varied. Deathstroke is not even a top 5 character. We're only a year into Injustice so we don't know how it'll turn out but as of now IGAU is far more balanced than MK was. Even the weakest characters in IGAU are pretty competitive and will do work in tournaments. What's really impressive is how different the characters are. Characters like Bane and Hawkgirl are so different in play style and they made it work.

injustice was fun for 6 months for me, but I just went back to mk9. i guess it didn't help that I mained shazam, whose considered to be one of the worst characters XD

as for mk:

- I think they should make inputting strings in synch with the how it appears on screen, not like the current system where you have to input the string as fast as you can (well, most of them atleast) and the same for cancelling into specials.
- some of the jump kicks/punches can get a bit repetitive, which is something injustice did (but not well). injustice characters had some CRAZY hitboxes, like batmans j2, green lantern j1, hell even shazams j2 was ridiculous for crossups. I liked the variation in animations, but some of the hitboxes need to be adjusted for sure.
- I also liked how injustice had different invincibility frames for wake up attacks, where as mk9 had the standard 7f invincibility.
- hit trades need to come from injustice, but projectile trades need to be added. I think it would change up the core gameplay a lot, because you can abused by projectiles in mk9/injustice if you're playing the wrong character. thankfully I play the best anti-zoner in mk9 so that isn't a problem. shazam is basically on the other end of the spectrum in injustice tho...
- better practice mode! AND ONLINE PRACTICE! was so thankful nrs added this wonderful online mode, and the practice mode is MUCH better in injustice. kinda sucks ass in mk now that ive been playing it again
- animations need to have smoother transitions. as they are, they seem kinda "choppy." I've never had too big a problem with it, but comparing it to how street fighter looks can show the difference.
- NO MORE GENERIC STAGES PLZ. im talking about the desert, boring ass bell room, rooftop (well it's kinda cool cus there's a dragon chasing a helicopter in the background), street, and no more night and day variants, those just waste slots.
- better netcode, but that's a given
- more characters :D

welp, that seems to be it. not too problems, mk9 is one of my favorite games in the world so i am day one for mk10 (or mkx would be way cooler)

oh and EW to the few posts above. why change mk9 to something it's not? i dont really enjoy most other fighters, so id be pretty fucking sad if it played like any other fighter
