I see games as other media: it's a story being told. I'm controling the character but it's not me, i doesn't have to be me. If there is a choice, I usually end up making a character that doesn't look like me at all.
Are people so self centered that they need to be represented in everything?
The diversity conversation is not only about videogames, and is not about being self centered. It is about more accurately reflecting the demographics that play those games. Like how a 2018 study shows that, out of al games presented at E3 only 8% of game protagonists are female, yet 40-45% of gamers are women.

Every trailer (including the scorn one) in MS’s 3rd party showcase stated it was representative footage only, you annoying relentless fanboy. There was no lying or misleading (at least about that, about AC gameplay being there is a different story), so just shut up about it already.

Am I being rude, yes, but this must be close to the 10th time I’ve seen you mention this bullshit in two different threads. Stop spreading lies and stating things as fact when you’ve shown time and time again you do not know what you are talking about, about anything, ever!

It took me literally about 30 seconds to google “Xbox sporn trailer” click the first video that showed up and wait the 10 seconds into the video when the disclaimer came up, to double check I was right before posting this. Why would you not have checked this out yourself before carrying on like an idiot?

There's a few tidbits, or to be honest non-tidbits, on the PS5 in the rocket lake section through superchat questions, for whatever it's worth. Some things about the GPU that haven't been revealed yet, something about the cooling being impressive and relating back to the dual sided patent, it's kind of stuff that anyone could have claimed with what we know already, but given some inside info in the past...Again, for whatever it's worth, even if that's nothing to you.

There are female protagonists since forever in games. My problem is when they have absolutely no feminine features in their face, not only body mind you.
Control protagonist looks very masculine IMHO even if comparing the actress she was modeled from... changes were made.
I love how the "40~45% of female gamers" are so rarely found in the wild.
I do know a couple of close friends that are female gamers (one is a hardcore DOTA player) and my ex-wife was a gamer too (mostly played puzzle, rpgs and time management games).
And based on what I've watched of the games my ex played, they are very much represented there. 98% of the protagonists were female.
What I have found just once was a woman that played mainstream action games. She was very hardcore on Resident Evil.
Keep in mind I'm not saying they don't exists, I believe the 40% is a strech.

I'll stop derrailing the thread and I'm inclined to create a specific thread for this. I'll just need to ensure it meets the forum standards as I've never created a thread before.

Yup. Better move all that somewhere else. Theres already a thread where dudes complain about women not being made sexy enough or whatever

I found this, still trying to hunt down the Horizon one.

Nice find, hope you can find the horizon 2 one

The clowns on concernEra forums are making a big deal out of it and saying it's Ratchet being a transgender. Here, timestamped, just see her reaction, she seemed surprised seeing Clank:

Woops, I read this post wrong,
I thought you just said that she's a new character that's transgender. which we gotta admit is not super unlikely
She's definitely not literally ratchet, she COULD be a character that's very parallel to him but just from a different dimension. or she could be totally different and just happen to also be a lombax. gotta wait and see. I like the metal arm.

sorry for offtopic, had to correct myself.

Yup, I think she's just a normal female lombax, and knows Ratchet and Clank from before then stumbled upon Clank accidentally there and was surprised to see Clank probably since there is a backstory that's untold yet?

I think something like that, but transgender lombax is an extreme mind fuckery. :messenger_winking_tongue:

I'm actually hyped for this but the PS5 reveal trailer and PC trailer look like a different game.
Marketing and Devs seem to have ver distinct visions for the same product.

The PC version is struggling to hit 60fps as well, most of the time 30fps or below and inferior graphically. Not sure what's happening there. But both videos are useful now I know it's fast-paced and I really dig it!

I'm not bothered by the race of the protagonist if it fits the narrative, I'm only bothered if it feels like forced for some agendas. If somebody doesn't like a game because the race of the protagonist doesn't fits his, you can always grab Unreal Engine and make your own game. :goog_unsure:

My agenda will forever be to force hot buff amazon queens down the throats of the masses until they learn to love them.
I will not be satisfied with this gen until they add jiggle physics to Tifa's rippling abs.

So yeah I don't mind agendas too much, only problem is when they are paired with hackneyed writing.

So anyway, how about those cooling solutions amirite?

I'm preordering the deluxe edition of TLOU2, no fucks given as well. :lollipop_tears_of_joy:

And for cooling, I think it's either sucking air from the back and exhausting from the front/upper parts, or the other way around. I think they're using tunneled air to make more efficient velocity of cool air intake and hot air exhaust.

Fast paced, loot based and hopefully each weapon is a "class" like moster hunter.
Give me a challenging A.I. and I'm sold.

I think many will be embarrassed when those multiplats go to other platforms, that gameplay of PC is really worrying. Not like the game is in the top of PS5's best looking games, but it's pretty solid 60fps at native 4K and better graphics.

I was having this discussion on Twitter with some Xbox fans and I mentioned this stuff and the dudes reply was “this is not necessarily true with the new market development kit they have a lot of tools to be able to basically make two different game designs and make them bridge together. You'll be very surprised when games are shown" , seems like Microsoft really do have these tools but they rely on actual magic 😂 jks of course.
How do you guys think game engines work? You write some custom code but you link or call the correct code depending on your target.
A lot of times you just use preproccessor directives.

#ifdef PS5
// custom ps5 stuff here
#elseifdef XBOX_S_X
// custom series x stuff here.
You probably would include different rendering library files depending on target.

I knew it was gonna get a little spicy in here after the reveal so I decided to sit out the past couple of days but here are my two cents on the show.

This is a next gen specs/news thread so it's going to attract enthusiasts who care about the cutting edge and seeing all the interior upgrades of these machines in full effect for the biggest games. But it's important to step back and realize that a lot more people than us are interested in PS5. Sony has to appeal to them too.

This was, in my opinion, the best traditional format major games showcase in some time:

Open up with some heavy hitters, then gear down into AA and Indies, rev back up to AAA and end with a banger.

Not every press conference can be Sony E3 2016 (honestly don't think we'll ever see something like that again). But for making a conference that appealed to a wide audience and showed the variety of experiences available on PS5, this was top notch. Only game that was flatout bad to me was the Bugsnax game (seriously what the fuck was that?). The fact that a lot of those games have some kind of exclusivity is impressive too. Last thought is I think the impact that Shuhei Yoshida has had by starting up his P.S. Indies division was on full display. I don't usually play a lot of Indies but my goodness some of those games jumped right to the top of my wishlist.

Sorry for the long post, looking forward to Microsoft's response next month.

I was really amazed by those indie games. I love the uniqueness those indies bring, but now they're not tiny as usual, they're rivaling the best out there in terms of graphics! Kena is one of the biggest examples of that.

Most of the games shown will be in my library when I get my hands on PS5!

I just really want some anime games. Everything here either felt realistic or closer to pixar.

I'm eager to see what next gen does for anime games
im not holding my breath, bleeding edge graphics arent a priority for most japanese devs. The best looking anime-style games this gen were persona 5 and Guilty gear... and both of those games are PS3 games at heart. Perhaps for the PS5 generation we'll finally see them jump up to PS4 quality

So your trying to compare a tiny 3rd party show with Sony’s ps5 reveal? I am saying wait until the equivalent event happens for Xbox next month and do all the comparing you want.

Poor MS and their plucky underdog team of bedroom coders - lol. Straight marketing bullshit by a giagantic company that has more money than it knows what to do with - so get out here with "tiny event".

And I'm saying the date, time and title were chosen by MS, not me.
https://news.xbox.com/en-us/2020/05/05/xbox-2020-the-future-of-xbox/

The future of Xbox - very similar description to Sony's event...Xbox Series X Gameplay Reveal!

It was mis-marketed enough that MS apologised for misleading people.

I don't want a return to the bad old days of bullshots, PC demos passed off as console, fake exclusives and hype.

And I acknowledge Sony's history in that as well as MS. The difference is MS is still doing it now.

This means shit to me. Quieter than a fucking vacuum cleaner doesn't make me feel any less worried. 'Whisper quiet' would be perfect. 'a lot less loud' would be quite as good.

But a lot of effort to make it 'less loud'? That ... doesn't really gel with me, chief.

EDIT: PlayStation Lifestyle has a similar article, but their wording is different.

"Speaking separately to Guardian, Sony’s Simon Rutter assured fans that the company put “a great deal of effort” into ensuring that the PS5 won’t be noisy, confirming previous reports that Sony placed special emphasis on the console’s cooling system. "

Not sure what's happening around the globe, but 7 years old PS4's here are dead-silent. I've only seen one noisy PS4, and I think it's one of those black-market ones brought from the US market, it's very loud and never seen something like it before.

Sometimes someone pushes a button and the PS4 is open for hours, I don't notice it until I see the light. It's confusing to me to hear all the complains about noise that I've seen more than 30 PS4 or even more and know more people and non even talked about noise.

I believe everyone here as well, and it's obviously true that Cerny highlighted it. The PS4 Pro is slightly "hearable" compared to base PS4 when no AC is on and the roam is like around 28C while playing, which is an extremely rare scenario.

I had a 28" 4K monitor by Asus (Link); it was too small to appreciate 4K. Everything was super sharp, but details were so small that I couldn't really perceive any additional detail relative to 1080p. Also, text and desktop icons were so tiny that I had to scale everything up by 150%, which defeated the purpose of the extra screen space that 4K provides relative to 1080p. So, once I got myself a 43" 4K TV (Link), I sold the monitor. I now use the 4K TV as my monitor and use a TCL 55R617 (Link) as my TV.

Bigger is better, I only pray to God I don't go crazy and buy 85" Sony XH90! But aiming for 65-75" and sitting around 2.5 meters away (around 8 feets).

Once microLED hits the market around PS5 Pro, it's time to go 8K.

the same as me, i had first model of PS4, later i got PS4 Pro. console is sitting like 30-40cm from me, i almost never hearing it. so not sure about those sound complains. and i am sitting in open room. it is not like my PS4 is under the TV stand or 2m away.

Same here. Stray, Kena, and Jett stood out to me in the order of my most interested for the indies.

Looking forward to seeing more about them.

Was interested in Little Devils, until they gave into the false virtue outrage mob.

8K is overkill. I don't think that either the PS5 or XSX will be able to render games in 8K at respectable frame rates, unless the graphics are as simple as those of Pac-Man.

I know this has been discussed on the thread before but I cannot seem to find the discussions, what do you guys think of Series X games being held back because devs will be forced to make sure games also run on Xbox One and One X, is it simple as scaling the game down to lower resolutions so that they can run on the older hardware?

there are already two games releasing on XSX and not on one.
So, third party devs are allowed to create XSX only games., so don’t know what you are talking about? No dev is forced to create crossover games.

There could be quality control problems - perhaps it affects the units in some regions more than others.

I'm not sure which region my PS4p is from (purchased from a "grey"market source - can't remember the language on the box lol) but its the same for me - I don't think I've ever noticed it making noise as such.

Lol I forgot that the Volcano High game even existed. Yeah I don't any interest in that either.

About exclusivity deals, I tend to agree with you. I don't have any problem when it's for smaller games that help with funding, but there's no reason Bethesda needs to do it. That said, I understand the business reasons behind it and don't expect it to stop anytime soon.

I think this has to do with that accelerated development cycle on PS5 and easy to develop and optimize for compared to other platforms. This might be a regular habit going forward for many indies, at least. It's always smarter to develop for a new hardware with less game competition and less time and budget and get the best results. PlayStation, as the pinnacle of gaming, will always attract more and more devs to do so.

Exactly, I'm not expecting them to look as good as horizon. Just being a step up from what we have is more than enough for me.
I still prefer the visuals of several anime styled ps3 games to next gen realistic games.
Cel shading is such an underutilized style, and it doesnt take much to make it look good, in the hands of competent devs it could look surreal. Kamiya is already working on an Okami 2, and i'd love to see Kojima going back to a Zone of the Enders-type game, they'd be insane graphically

8K for me is mostly for videography and photography editing. 8K is 33.2 MP, you can't get any better feedback than that to perfectly edit your photos/videos. I've seen 8K footage on 8K displays and it's way, way more superior to 4K, but not enough content so far for that, and by 2024-2025 a new HDMI version should provide 8K@120Hz and better tech.

Objectively speaking no it doesn't. The movie image has blown highlights so the detail is lost on Ratchet's nose and Clank's forehead.

I can understand you may prefer that look stylistically, but from a "correctly lit" perspective, the game offers a "better" image...
the "Movie" example bo first provided was actually a cutscene from the 2016 ps4 game, he already provided a corrected comparison further down. The PS5 game does manage to go head to head with the movie though, its impressive.

Look games are a big business today - gaming revenue exceeds Movies.

Regardless that porn is the most popular type of "movie" content, you're not gonna see a bunch of porn trailers at the oscars are you?

It's the same for games - it doesn't matter what is actually popular or what sells, companies as big as Sony and MS are going to fit in the middle of public opinion as much as they can.

It doesn't mean the usual "white guys kill everyone" games won't be available, it just means that MS and Sony are presenting a more "calming" middle of the road light violence, limited sexuality, diverse image to casual observers looking on.

No one is worried little timmy is looking at ratchet and clank or sackboy - they would be worried if he's watching some bro gamers tea bagging each other and shouting obscenities, Ellie slitting a throat, Kratos ripping the head off a god, or DOA titties in your face. Which would also turn off "girl gamers"as fast as Flight Sim lol.

In fact just think back to something like MGS - the sexism in those games would not go over today in a full reveal by a platform holder. But you can still buy games of that and worse even on Switch. The Japanese haven't relented on the Hentai influenced gameplay.

You can still buy COD and Battlefield, GOW, TLOU 2! Violence hasn't gone from games, neither have white guys, neither has sexual imagery.

But it's not gonna be at a Sony, MS or Nintendo presser.

Yeah I didn't follow that point from the beginning. I was just pointing out the definiton of "good" vs "bad" lighting in that particular comment...

The thing is, if a computer is doing ray tracing, it will be implemented to produce "good" lighting - that might not be stylistiscally the nicest thing to look at, but you know machines - they do what they're told, not what the developers want.

Thats true, even with ray tracing you still need an artist to stage and light a frame to produce a pleasing result. The game has a better art direction in this sense and it helps a lot with the look, the shot with the new character is particularly striking
