Next Level Games has been working on "top secret project" since October

Mario Strikers - Amazing games, but I mean...
Punch-Out - Never heard of it.
Luigis Mansion - Have yet to play.

So for now, I'll keep my expectations kinda low.

This was leaked on Miiverse? Is this your interpretation of the "Metal Gear" category on the Miiverse list? Because that could've been referring to the 3DS port of Snake Eater, much like it now appears other categories were referring to 3DS games. Luigi's Mansion 2 even has a subcommunity in the Year of Luigi community.
B-b-b-boring. Where's your GAF spirit? Roll with the crazy expectations and believe.

If this is the game they were working on before being assigned Luigi's Mansion, there's no way it's a 3DS game. Or at least there's no way it WAS a 3DS game at that time. It could very well have turned into a 3DS game later. I say this because NLG didn't even know about the 3DS when they started on Luigi's Manions, a 3DS game.

It was most likely another Wii game or possible even a DS game. But since Nintendo isn't making games for either of those systems anymore, that project has either been scrapped entirely or moved to 3DS or Wii U.

Or... play LM2 when you get the chance. It's been very well received. Just because you haven't played two of their well-received titles doesn't mean your expectations should be low

All four of the games they've produced for Nintendo have been well-received. So...why wouldn't you expect another good game from them?

Edit: Also, how the hell do you not know about Punch-Out? It's Punch-Out.

The first one wasn't even that good. If you're going to make a sequel, give it back to n-Space.

Also, I'm kinda surprised at the following for StarTropics. I thought people forgot about it. :/ One of the best games on the NES (and the sequel was too!), and it severely needs another entry.

Their hiring message for the technical director makes specific mention of their work with Nintendo (and references that only) then says that the successful applicant will be working with one of the most successful publisher worldwide so I'm going with Nintendo.

But the concept of the game is good and maybe Nintendo should try to explore it a little bit more. And while I wouldn't argue if n-Space did it, I also wouldn't complain if Next Level developed it.

Could be ubi, ea or activision

Well going by their recent history it's most likely to be Sega, Activision, or Ubisoft, if it's not Nintendo. That being said, it seems likely that they've been doing a Nintendo project of some sort more or less non stop since around 2005, if LM2 really started development in 2009.

I'd be fine with either a U or 3DS game.

But I'd REALLY be fine with Mario Football, but that will never happen because it would only have appeal in North America. :(

That would be an amazing idea, espeically in the style of Strikers.

I think there may be some limited appeal in Japan too; there's like, football animes and stuff, right?

The Brits have some college football leagues too :P

Regardless, it's not like it's a bad idea to make something that primarily appeals to North America. But considering it's Nintendo, and they're extremely Japan-focused, the idea of a Mario Football game probably hasn't even crossed their minds.

They mentioned in an interview that they were working on something for Nintendo when they came to them and pulled them off it to work on Luigi's Mansion right? old news

You should be knocked back down to Junior for this.

If you have 30 cents the original Punch-Out came out on the Wii U today.

After Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon I have full confidence in this team, but I just hope this project isn't a new Super Mario Strikers. That would be pretty disappointing, as well as would be a Dark Moon HD port (after Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D I can imagine almost every nonsense for Nintendo's part).

Nevertheless I don't have a clue about what can we expect from these guys. It doesn't necessarily have to be Punch Out, they may have put their hands on some other forgotten Nintendo series. A new Star Fox made by them could be quite interesting, just in case Retro Studios is not already taking care of it.

I really want a new Strikers honestly. Charged was fucking madness, and it's online stuff was some of the best on the Wii. The series is their best WW seller too iirc. One of the most fun sports games around

But yeah, Next Level have become a really solid team over the years, so I'm interested in anything they have to offer. I recall hearing a lot of their ideas for Punch Out got cut, so hopefully they have earned some more freedom and respect after doing Luigi's Mansion.

I think Q-Games might be working on a new Star Fox, and I think they're the best choice. Command was a good game, and they did a decent job with the 64 remake.

I kinda like Dylan Cuthbert, it's a good guy and I know he loves the franchise... but personally I think Command was a pain in the ass. It was repetitive, ugly, with stupid touching-controls and a stupid story (eight stupid stories). So I'm not sure if Q-Games is the best choice to give back to Fox the glory he deserves after a masterpiece as Star Fox 64.

Command was mediocre at best.

The best choice for a new Star Fox game would be either Treasure or Platinum imo.

People like to ask, 'why doesnt Nintendo at least TRY a more mature FPS?'

little factoid, Geist didn't even break 100k in US

Didn't it come out late in the GC cycle? Like after RE4? I'm sure that didn't help it at all. I own a copy, but it's used and was years later. Sadly didn't even know anything about it till I say it for like $10 at Wal-Mart or so in 2006/etc

Since getting a Wii U at launch, my Wii was moved to our family room. The sofa is pretty far away from the TV, so playing GC games meant sitting on the floor. Fuck that.

Bought a Wavebird from eBay last week and spent the past few days reacquainting myself with the handful of GC games I've still got. First up was F-Zero (obviously) but then I had a fuck load of fun with Mario Strikers. I loved it at the time - the best arcade footy game of its gen - and it is still a joy to play now. I then fired up Strikers Charged, and while it has some nice additions, I still prefer the original. Just pure, fast paced, hectic arcade action.

So yeah, Striker U please. Tone down the gimmicks and cheapness of Strikers Charged, and just focus on fast, fun football action.

Like what? The only thing that seemed "cheap" to me about Charged was the opposing AI on higher difficulty levels. I thought the goalie ball-blocking minigame was pretty excellent, and would work great with the Gamepad.

Yeah, when I said cheapness, I was on about the highest difficulty. The AI reacted faster that it was humanly possible to do. The difficulty level down from it was all too easy to win after you understood the controls and tactics. I used to play the first Strikers on the highest difficulty, and games would never be certain that I'd win. Being a single goal up or down was a real knife edge feeling, just like real footy.

The first game was less chaotic, and more focused on football. The sequel has more focus on power-ups, special moves, and environmental events on the various pitches. I did love the charged shot mini game, and the selection of captains and team mates with different abilities was a nice addition too.

well, it was pretty cheap when people were only beaming themself into the goals with koopas and boos online. That is something that can be fixed.

And yeah, please be strikers U
