All I remember is a few days the site was offline then it came back Evilore tries to answer as many questions as possible while the Ree lot were like “fuck you fuck this place I’m gonna leave” the rest of us were here going ?!?
i am sure if I remember a lot of behind the scenes information was shared by EL a lot the mods what went down etc. Both with regards to GAF and the accusations. Also at the same time GAF and EL has been of the mindset just leave them the hell alone we don’t want to really interact with them. Let them be. Btw we are nuking politics as too much madness goes down.
slowly the numbers were good and apart from the odd account suicide or Ree sleeper agent. This site has been good. It’s also here accepting lapsed Ree users who jumped ship.

Scandinavian countries and most of Europe would beg to differ. They are all market economy democracies with strong social safety nets which conservatives in the west call "socialism" as if that's equivalent to Venezuela or Cuba.
The point of social systems is to ensure everyone can be the best they can be (can take risks and make mistakes and still get up and try again) and ensure everyone benefits from a country's wealth. That can coexist with profit and individual enterprise comfortably. Except when either true socialists take over and start nationalising everything or there are so many rich people with political access that they start to rig the economy in their favour and starve social systems of funds so they can hoard more wealth.
The 2008 Financial Crisis or the Enron or Worldcomm cases among many many others should have taught us that market economies need to be moderated and the public good needs to be protected.
Covid antimask and antivax hysteria show just how far the extreme right are willing to go to protect individualism at the expense of the public good. To the death, literally.
That's as screwed up as Venezuela...just in a different way.

I saw Nepenthe at a grocery store in Los Angeles yesterday. I told her how cool it was to meet her in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother her and ask her for photos or anything.
She said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”
I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but she kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing her hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard her chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw her trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in her hands without paying.
The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Ma'am, you need to pay for those first.” At first she kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.
When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, she stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, she kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

Maybe a poor choice of words but at the time I created an Era account, I don’t think GAF would even load. Maybe that was just due to the migration to the new system or something. In any case, I wasn’t in the know about all the behind the scenes happenings, I was like I guess everyone’s posting here and/or self immolating their GAF accounts with spergouts now. In retrospect I should’ve just stuck around

Even though the pressure of being the sole owner of ResetEra is way too much, and personal health concerns have made it increasingly difficult to shoulder <4.5 mil> on his own...
I was a member at Era, soon as the announcement of ads came up, I questioned who's getting paid, around that time I had the idea who the owner was and the shareholders. From that point onwards I knew what the fuck was going on.
And lol at this forum saying don't let era posters back, as if anyone here decides. Evilore at the moment is rubbing his hands together hoping some of the Era userbase migrates back here for better traffic and ad revenue here.

The story is supposedly he bought out shares from other people 2018 to be sole owner, and mods wanting pay left as it looks like he didn't want to pay, and Cerium had a legion of replacement mods willing to work for free anyway. So just like a McDonalds manager hiring min wage workers instead of paying vets more money, he did the lowball offer game of $0! And good on him. Any business out there with job applications saying they're willing to work for free, I'd hire them too if it looks like they could do a decent job.
So he played the capitalistic strategy on all of them, even in the early stages of Resetera before all this big profits and takeover offers came about.
The reason why lots of people are advocating for retroactive payout and rewards is because the site was founded with do-gooders who think profiteering people are evil and businesses should bend over lavashing employees with pay. Well, Cerium made bank so they are expecting he should go out of his way and walk the talk and give money back to all the people that helped him make Resetera worth millions.
Some people though are clearly trolling mods for making nothing out of it. One guy masterfully posted $4.5M isn't even that much money and that lead to a couple pages of back and forth including mods responding. Hilarious.

Yeah no...America is the only western country that doesn't have universal health care, charges market prices for prescription drugs or to use an ambulance, has a large private education system and also has a pretty punitive social safety net. Sensible folk on Resetera (if any remain) would be arguing to change this.
If you stuck with Era you probably didn't see the mess those users caused here. So normal people were caught in the mess, but overall they weren't missed.
Gaf improved greatly after the exodus actually allowing free speech without banning users for having an opinion that differs from the mods. This BS was happening on Gaf before they all left. I didn't miss them and I fear the thought of the crawling back. Hopefully they continue to be lazy and keep posting on in their echo chamber while they try to get someone else to make a new site. Hm... 4.5 million though, I don't know if I could put up with them to hang around for a payoff.
Honestly the emergence of NeoGAF and ResetEra would make a great documentary. Even a YouTuber making a well made video with a decent budget. I mean when ERA was created they didn’t have a clear vision of what it was to be… they don’t even know how ads or monetization will works… it is a question made for the admins back and they said they will look into it in the future.

The ERA community just jumped conclusions (like usual).
He could have done some illegal actions and used some or a lot of people in the process to reach the point to be the solo owner of the site and that is another question that if happened should be take to court.

I was on Era and here by the way. I got bannned in Era a couple of years ago. I'm surprised I haven't been banned in NeoGAF prior to ResetEra I probably did actually I think Evilore unbanned me after the nutcases left. But the Era types banned me twice once when they were all here with the similar rules over there and then on Era as well.

All the uproars about the Media Create debacle I never knew about until now, all the groups of Xbox and Ninty gamers, Asians and group X posters bailing ship, I never knew either. I'm not close enough to know what's going on or how users are declining.
