Update for Packers-Gaf:

Might as well hold out them out. Even IF this ends up being a trap game, we might as well get our embarassing loss out of the way against an AFC team with no chance of going anywhere while keeping our team healthy.

He also has a 68.9% completion percentage and has only thrown one INT (He has thrown 5 interceptions over his first three games the last two years.)

I think his lack of passing yards is by design.
Harbaugh is playing a very conservative offense and trying to put Alex in a position to not make mistakes.

This is to accomplish two things:

1. Build Confidence in Alex Smith
2. Limit the amount of turnovers and mistakes made.

So yes if your basing performance on purely passing yards then Alex isn't to hot.

Though over the course of three games that number has increased...

SEA: 124
DAL: 179
CIN: 201

I think this trend will continue as the season goes on. (Of course some games will be better then others.)

So, if you are not a 49ers fan and are just looking at Alex's Stat Line, then I can see why you would think he is having a miserable time. If you have watched Alex over the course of his career you will know this is the best he has ever looked sine Norv Turner was the 49ers OC.

Exactly, Smith's accuracy in the past has been incredibly suspect but with this season, most of his throws have been on point (a lot of his incompletions have been blatant drops as well). Harbaugh is basically re-teaching Smith the fundamentals. The yardage is a byproduct of the conservative playcalling/injured receiving core and suspect protection (can't throw it deep if your line can't protect your QB)

Casey Matthews was officially demoted, Rolle is going to start in his place this week. Also Allen is going to start over Coleman. So the Eagles will have replaced their 2 worst defensive players, hopefully it helps.

Lets hope it works. Rolle is not amazing himself and Allen showed flashes last season but is still recovering from a serious knee injury.

I better not see these guys playing zone majority of the time. They need to play man with the three corners and mix in some blitz

Giants practice report:

TheBlueScreen Ralph Vacchiano
Oh, the good news: DE Osi Umenyiora (knee) and WR Mario Manningham (concussion) were practicing. #NYG

MikeGarafolo Mike Garafolo
Surprise absence here: LS Zak DeOssie not at practice. Reason unknown. LB Mark Herzlich and TE Travis Beckum snapping in his place. #nyg

TheBlueScreen Ralph Vacchiano
New additions to the injury list: WR Hakeem Nicks and long-snapper Zak DeOssie. Nicks was on the bike. DeOssie wasn't at practice. #NYG

TheBlueScreen Ralph Vacchiano
Also not practicing: DE Justin Tuck (groin/neck) and WR Brandon Stokley (quad). #NYG

MikeGarafolo Mike Garafolo
And no sign of Brandon Stokley (quad), who got hurt in practice yesterday. Updates on all injured coming in a bit. #nyg

Nicks practiced yesterday so there's a good chance they are holding him as a precaution after the knee/bone bruise.

Tuck insists he will play on Sunday and has been getting treatment for his neck. Hey may do one day of practice tomorrow but I wouldn't doubt if they hold him out again.

Mario and Osi look like a go this weekend thus far. Though they are saying Osi is 50/50.

No word on the severity of Stokely's injury or what's going on with DeOssie as of yet. More info forthcoming after Coughlin talks to the media.

Yep, responded on the last page.

Aside from what I noted above, the Giants just got Osi to shut-up and play. He's accepted that he's not getting a new contract and he seems to have reached some level of peace with that. He wants to play so let him. It would be stupid for the team to bench him now in favor of JPP regardless of how well JPP is playing. You're just asking for him to go all malcontent on you and it's not the time for that coming off a big early season win.

Let him play and see if he can continue to play at the high level he did in 2010. Which would be fantastic! If he can then that depth we've been talking about at D-End is there in spades and we can have guys that move around all over the field and that can help to hide the problems in the secondary.

Ah, I missed it sry. I'd let JPP keep the starting job for a couple more games and slowly work Osi back on 3rd downs and some 2nd downs. He needs to work off the rust and the dude is a shitty run stopper anyway, why make him a starter when the guy who replaced him is playing great? I get that Osi is calmed down somewhat but no way he's in NFL-shape with the surgery and no Training Camp.

Also Kiwi and Greg Jones are quietly having solid years so far.

Can we talk gambling?

Is the NYG (-1) @ARI an amazing bet (for NYG) or am I crazy?

I also feel like a banged up Dallas(-1) vs DET is a good bet on DET.

He's not getting a new contract now, or ever? I assume this is his last year of his current contract? I wonder how he'd fit as a 3-4 DE. I'd rather have him than Carriker to be honest, even though that's not Osi's usual side. It would put him on Vick's blindside though, which I would love. :)

When Osi runs up field 10 yards behind Vick and allows him to Run To Daylight we'll see how much you love it.

It won't matter who starts, Osi or Pierre Paul, but Pierre Paul has done everything asked for and then some to cement his spot. But you have to appease the little baby somehow.

Osi flying off the end and they'll move JPP around like they've been trying to do with Tollefson. His second sack vs. PHI came as an inside rusher at DT. Hopeful Tuck is ready to go, that trio will be exciting to watch.

notsureifserious

as a 3-4 DE i'd take Carriker (6-6, 315), unless Osi is gonna adding 50 lbs.

Now. He has two years left on his contract. He would be a free agent after the 2012 season.

Ever? If he plays like he did in 2010, I think the Giants will work with him as best they can to keep him a Giant for the rest of his career. He won't be cashing in to the tune of top DE money though. He'll be nearly 31 by the time this contract is up and Justin Tuck is due his money in 2012. It's not even a choice between those two.

Kiwi and Boley rushing at linebacker. This Jacquain Williams kid has some serious speed as well and looks pretty good rushing (he got some good pressure on Vick). The entire front 7 could be very fun to watch. It's just that back half of the defense that needs to maintain the level of play they had Sunday if not better. We keep getting Reskinds or Rams like performances though...

I meant in regards to the Texans/Steelers game. And this week. There will be a week 5 thread buddy! Patience!
I can't think of anything to really annoy a Texans fan. I guess if I win I will ask for someone to make an avatar of that sleazy GIF of Ben sticking out his tongue.

Likewise nothing from the Texans is really going to annoy me. As long as you don't bust out some fruity Brady or Rodgers avatar I know it won't bother me a whole lot. And honestly Rodgers and the Packers don't really annoy me (probably one of the most likeable franchises), it is totally their fanbase...

Yeah, it'll be something Texans/Steelers related. Otherwise it's no fun. It's more for me to see another Texans avatar if we win.

That NYG bet sounds nuts. Im prolly gonna get in on that piece of action.

Detroit might let you down though. That shit against the Vikes was scary.

Yeah when I had to use a packers avatar after week one it wasn't a big deal.

If it was possible I think the thing that would annoy me most would be a GIF summary of that game between the Texans and Steelers from like 2002 or 03 when we outgained the Texans by like a 1000 yards and somehow got blown out...

That one still hurts!

Mike Wallace has made almost everyone his bitch lately.

Imagine the season he would be having if we had a good offensive line and Ben had time to throw?

I really think Ried needs to consider stepping in and calling plays on D. Rushing 4 and playing zone is not going to work in todays NFL, no matter what your personal is, let alone for a D with as many holes as the Eagles. They have to play man to man and try to maximize the pressure they get. This D could be really good with someone like Jim Johnson calling the plays. Castillio has been way to timid this year. They got away with it against the Rams, since the Rams OL and WRs are so fucking bad, but good teams are going to take advantage of what the Eagles are doing.

So the offensive line coach converted to Def coordinator is not working out so far?

Isn't Rolle 5'9?

I hope VD spanks dat ass on Sunday.

Well hopefully if they have learned their lesson from what Tony G did to them they will put one of the corners, possibly Nnamdi on VD. Let DRC and Asante cover the two starting WRs.

I wouldn't be surprised if Nnamdi was on VD. Either way I expect us to run a lot, unsuccessfully, and lose.

Updates to the injuries I posted earlier:

DeOssie has a sore back and Hakeem has a sore knee. Both should play on Sunday
Two days of practice and no swelling in Osi's knee. It's looking like he'll go.
No update on Stokely at the moment. He was walking around with no limp or wrap on his quad though.
Tuck had changes made to his pads to help alleviate some pain. He is going through treatment and says if he gets on the plane to AZ, he's playing. Coughlin says he's optimistic Tuck will be able to play.

Going 3 wide on the Eagles is a mistake. Wasn't it posted that you should go 2 WRs to keep DRC off the field?

*reads Futurevoid's post*

where's my Michael Clayton news????

Hmm, what does it say about Miami that they were the only team who even put in a waiver claim on Slaton?

Yeah the Dolphins are quietly a top 5 joke franchise right now.

Celebrity owners to try and boost attendance (is minor ownership there anything other than buying a luxury suite?)

Openly court a coach, miss out, then extend the incompetent coach you rightly tried to jettison

Overpay a skittish, prissy RB who is useless outside of punt returns, then try and fix that by putting in the only waiver claim on a guy who is useless in every scenario

Win-less against worst team in history of professional sports

Almost as bad as the Rams.

Slaton is our #3 RB, don't even know how many #3 RBs in the league I know by name. He's a similar type of back to the fragile Bush, and hasn't done anything since he lost his starting spot to Foster due to an injury. So you take a chance on a guy who won't see much if any time unless Bush goes down in a season you aren't going to accomplish anything. I welcome Slaton to Miami with open arms. What I'm wondering though,

What does it say about Pittsburgh when you turn on a game to see a few thousand people wearing a rapists name on their back?

That's a terrible idea, so naturally I pray they do that. Reid is nowhere near that crazy however.

What you are suggesting is constantly being in a nickel package (VD is out almost every snap), which is NOT what your run D needs right now, and limits your blitzing capabilities.

And if you don't go nickel, who covers the other wideout? Your SS? Better get help from the FS over the top there, which leaves the other WR singled.

Miami -

Reggie Bush
Daniel Thomas
Steve Slaton

Bust sandwich right there.

What a waste. Putting Nnamdi in so much zone should be a crime.

The weird thing is he doesnt even seem good at it. He has been late reacting on a few passes already this year. He is a force in man to man coverage, they need to do that more.
