He's not a defenseless receiver after he turns to run, the hit should have been on his back.. Collie turned into it. Sucks that fans will be split over a horrible looking injury, IMO that's whats really sad. If that dude comes up IR'd or worse still paralyzed., its going to be a shame if people remember it as some controversial call.

Final thoughts on this. I'm ok with them throwing the flag as the refs need to protect the players. I won't be ok if they suspend the guy or hit him with a $1,000,000 fine like they're going to do. Collie's head came down because he was defending himself and the defender clearly leads with his shoulder. It's football and shit happens.

He hit him with his helmet, he was leading with his helmet. And it's not football and shit happens, peoples lives are at stake whether you admit it or not. If it comes out that that collie is paralyzed, are you going to still say, its football, shit happens?

I never wish injury on anyone even if it's a bitter rival, but I'm just saying that I wouldn't mind too much if a meteor struck Jason Campbell.

If that happens he will pull a Favre and keep playing.

Legal my ass, dude could be paralyzed. He led with his helmet no matter what you say. He will be fined and suspended for this. And I hope that 22 is suspended for parading around like a jackass around collie while the staff was attending to him.

No matter what you say? Well can't argue with that. Case closed.

Even Simms was wondering about that call. It was a catch, fumble, and a legal hit. Even if you apply the "runner" rule.

oh please, Kurt Coleman didn't have any intent to paralyze Collie. It was bad but don't demonize him.

Doesn't matter, if there's contact, they're going to get flagged. Intent does NOT factor into it. And if there isn't a flag, they'll still get fined and possibly suspended. That's the new league.

well if that's the way they're gonna play it then they need to change the rule book. again the rule book says...

A tackler using his helmet to butt, spear, or ram an opponent.

Any player who uses the top of his helmet unnecessarily.

those are the helmet involved rules. a helmet to helmet hit is considered using the top of your helmet unnecessarily. so yes, intent does factor into it. and this play was neither of those.

Ref nearly got taken out. :lol

LJs moved to the booths upstairs next season to avoid potential injury. Book it.

But the guy got hurt!!!11

Sucks the dude got carted off but there was nothing wrong about that play.

Who said anything about intent to paralyze? He led with his helmet, period. Dont be an eagles homer.

The NFL needs to suspend the refs in the Raiders game. They're downright horrible.

Huff sacks Cassell, lets see if he gets fined for aggressive hitting of a QB.

Fix is in.
Second really bad, and big, call on the secondary. Luckily, this one didn't cost a TD, but the last one did.

Plus, that whole down situation... and some other bad smaller calls throughout. Worst crew evar.

never heard of him

they blurred out the kickers name at museums after 05
:lol

On the replay it did look like the ref only threw the flag after he saw Collie paralyzed on the field :lol

I think the official panicked and needed someway to just end the play there.

Hey, I know. We argued this ad nauseam back when they announced the new crack down. They told Harrison flat out, doesn't matter if the WR lowered his head, the defender is now always held responsible for how, when, and where his head hits. It's impossible with the speed of the game today, but the league doesn't care. They want to look like they're tough on vicious hits and that they really do care about player safety.

uh no he didn't. he led with his shoulder and collie's head got knocked back into the FRONT of his helmet.

Watch the play again. From the back angle, you can clearly see that he throws his shoulder, but Collie's head comes down and makes contact. If Collie fucking dies, yes, I'll say the same thing. I won't be happy about it, but it's football and shit happens.
