Oh. Actually that should still be pretty good. Much better than working a retail shift at what will certainly be an empty mall. My friend worked Boston Pizza for the Gold Medal game and said it was a blast. You'll be able to rush downtown for the parade / riot afterwards.

At least you're not 4500km away like me?

I'm an hour and a half bus ride away, so...getting off at 8pm, it'd be 10:30/11 by the time I got downtown. Eeeh.

But it should be good in the restaurant anyway. We'll probably all be watching instead of working, haha.

eah, I start a new job new next week. Horrible timing :(

Although the plus is I get off at 5, and I work a on Robson, two blocks from Granville.

Lucky. Yeah, I'm in White Rock and a 20 minute walk to the bus that gets me downtown, so I won't really be able to get downtown after work at 8pm.

I didn't keep track of the game until after it was over, was fairly busy but I was wondering how was the game? did both teams play good?

Boston outshot the Canucks but the Canucks deserved the win. Out hit Boston pretty badly (I think had 20 more hits?) and the Canucks were using their speed a lot like they did in games 1 and 2. Luongo and Thomas both played VERY well. Luongo made a LOT of reactionary saves off deflections. Chris Tanev has fucking ice for blood. The Sedins had a lot of good shifts through the first half of the game, but didn't score. The Kesler line also looked dangerous at times, but didn't score. Lapierre was probably the best skater on the ice. Was FLYING. I felt like Peverley was one of the better Bruins. Bergeron was decent as well.

Weird to think Vancouver has a chance to win the Cup despite being out scored 14-6. Just goes to show that blowout wins mean nothing.

People will still be arriving downtown at that point! I wonder how late the skytrain will run if we win the stanley cup... "hey guys sorry yeah we're still stopping around 1"

Awesome, Thank you for the Summary, it's appreciated :) I look forward to the highlights.

I just picked it up online, but I think it's a girl from a crowd during the season of American Idol where that young guy...uh... Had to google it, but Sanjaya? So season 6 or something.

Haha, I work decently early the next day, sadly. I work early as hell on Tuesday morning too (gotta be up at 5am), but I figure if I start trying to get home by 9pm-ish, it'll be okay. I just want to be there for the game and a bit of the potential party afterwards.

Well as we found out during the olympics, all the downtown buses will be completely useless. My advice to anyone who'll need to get out of downtown at 3am: save cab fare.

Eh, it's not really about that. It's more about the fact that now every game is a possible cup winning game, and it's better being on the safe side and head out for every game just in case that turns out to be the playoff winner. Last thing anyone wants to do is be caught sitting at home if the Canucks win Monday.

I love reading this thread after the game. Can't miss gems like these:

You better be right, because if you don't score a PP goal again tonight I'm going to kill someone.

Even with the wound in his ribs from Chara's shiv..... Lapierre still comes through

The "all-douche team" comment was pretty good too. :lol

I don't know if I want to be downtown for Game 6. But if they lose it won't be the end of the world.

hehehehehe. Looks like we didn't need that PP goal after all. We'll save it for Boston.

Public events. :lol

Missed all of the 2nd and 3rd periods (church banquet with family), but we didn't mind getting the GWG spoiled on us. Just random screaming from somewhere in the middle of the room, heh. Watched the game on tape once we got home.

Nice to see Bobby Lu come back after two really weak games and be brilliant. Positioning was good as usual, but he also looked a lot more active and made some great desperation saves. Great pressure and chances (though Tanner Glass' whiff was horrific, that gif is downright painful), and it seems like the Canucks are getting back to the play that has made them so successful. Not all the way there yet, but a drastic improvement from the play of 3 and 4. Oh, and pleased that Maxim got the goal. Hoping that that's worth some irritation on top of his trolling.

Tanev looked like a veteran tonight! Gillis found a diamond in the rough, no doubt about it. Keith Ballard on the other hand...

I think 6 will be another close game, the Canucks would appear to have learned enough lessons to not to repeat a blowout. Lu needs to be great again and everyone's going to have to fight hard and fast to induce more mistakes. And we have to capitalize on them. I think the Nucks would have the edge going into 7, but I'm really hoping that it doesn't come to that. Leave nothing to chance and give the Bruins as little as possible.

What is this second team bullshit? I support one team. I enjoy watching others.

So it's perfectly acceptable that some people pathetically root against multiple teams with every fiber of their being... but pulling for a second team is bullshit? I don't understand.

Edler with 10 hits tonight, 5 in the first period alone.

MONSTER

I hope he brings it next game. He's been so maddeningly inconsistent this entire run. One night he's destroying everything in sight, the next he's bobbling pucks and shitting the bed.

The one thing I wish for in Game 6 is for the Vancouver D to play up to its potential. I know the injuries: bad backs, bum shoulders, ruptured balls, being Sami Salo, but come on, just one more night guys. Skate, pass, shoot, shutdown.

Get it DONE.

Yep. Think of it like a litter of kittens. You pick one kitten to love and you hope the rest get eaten by the mother so they don't make things difficult for your kitten.

Just got back from downtown, and my hand's still trobbing. Couldn't see shit from where I was standing at the CBC plaza, but fuck it, one more win baby! Glad to see Lou redeem himself. And the best part of all, convinced two girls to flash their boobs in exchange for rubbing my playoff beard. Talk about a win win.

Fuck downtown is awesome.

The pleasure that no one can take away from Canucks fans is they know how to party better than any other hockey fans!

But the kitten you've selected is already dead. It was killed by the other kittens. So what does it matter if they thrive since you've got nothing left anyway? Might as well adopt another kitten and wish it well. Or are you so bitter from the death of your original kitten that you want the others to suffer the same fate?

Probably the only time I'll ever agree with you. We've grown up since 94. And unlike some fans, we don't need to set cars on fire to have a good time.

You just came from a win. The riot was from a Game 7 loss. So don't speak so soon.

Anyway, the police will be prepared this time so if the Canucks do happen to lose in 7 it won't be nearly as bad.

That's not pessimism. That's recognition that there are always a variety of possibilities.

Not giving that recognition is a probable sign of mental retardation.

Just got home from downtown. Was at one of my closest friend's wedding. After the game ended, the entire wedding paused for 20 minutes so everyone could go down to the streets and celebrate. She went down in her wedding dress and got interviewed by ESPN.

I fucking love Vancouver.

I am utterly amazed by tonight. I just got home and it was, quite frankly, the most harrowing and beautiful thing I've ever seen. A mosh pit of 1000 people literally jumped in sync near a ute (pickup truck) that had a plastic bear in a cage (and bruins helmet and black and gold tutu). I spoke to a BC born and bred gentleman who's been waiting for the Stanley Cup since he was 5 years old. I hi-5d so many people, so much more than before, that my arms still can't feel themselves yet are in control enough to do normal motor function. I energised every pitch of area I was in with cheers, hoots, yee-haws and everything my body and vocals could muster just so I energise everybody into some form of interaction with me.

Muslim, European, Parents, Jock, Douchebag, Homeless, Small children... It didn't matter who you were, if you had a grin on your face and were wearing blue and green... You had a mutual love with all around you. A unity unlike anything I've ever seen before.

John Lennon once spoke of a world where it didn't matter who you were or what your social status was, you were accepted, loved and embraced - if only for a second or five. And tonight I saw the true embodiment of what he was implying.

Vancouver - I love you, and this is my #1 reason why and why I believe you deserve what your team has strived for.
