you guys see the bombs Davidson threw at Johansen's agent? he calls their demands "extortion"

Davidson, his face turning red as he spoke, referred to agent Kurt Overhardt’s tactics as “extortion,” and termed the summer-long talks as “embarrassing” and “absurd.”

“It makes no sense,” Davidson said. “When you see the numbers that are thrown at us, we shouldn’t even respond. That’s how bad it is. It’s embarrassing. And if the kid sits out (of training camp), he sits out.

“I wonder if the agent is going to pay him his money back that he’s going to lose by sitting out?”

Davidson said the Blue Jackets will not consider trading Johansen.

“Absolutely not; he’s a good guy and a good player,” Davidson said. “But you can’t sit here and have the Stamkos and the Toews and the Kane thrown at us.

“We were thinking long-term if it was fair for both sides; we’re a very fair organization,” Davidson said. “But with the numbers they came back with … they are so one-sided it’s non-sensical. It’s extortion is what it is. I don’t make this stuff up.

“I’ve been in this league doing this for a long time now and this one here, it’s baffling is what it is. It’s baffling. Baffling.

“Just because a guy has one good year, are you supposed to all of a sudden hand him the keys to city hall? We’re not trying to low-ball a guy. We don’t low-ball anybody.”

“I take it personally,” Davidson said. “Usually when you get into contract negotiations, there’s a framework there and you work it. Our organization and our ownership like to do what’s fair.

“If we ever caved to what he’s demanding, we’d all get fired. And I take it personal. I don’t understand it. I take it very personal. What’s he trying to do, get us fired? What’s he trying to do? I don’t understand what he’s trying to do.”

well either way johansen can put a stop to this if he wants. agents take instructions from clients.

i notice the agent had kesler and bieksa, both guys took team friendly deals so i doubt he's some sort of cancer. he also neogiated dubinsky's recent deal with cbj. maybe some heat needs to be directed at johansen.

I actually will be signing a lease real soon for an apartment right by Old Towne, Orange!

I go to Cal State Fullerton, so I wanted something in between work and school, and of course right by the Honda Center :)

Awesome news man, you're on a roll.

I wish I enjoyed the outdoors and hiking to that level. It gets kind over 80 degrees and I get irritated easily.

Awesome pics.

tbh I felt the same way for a long time, loved the outdoors but hated the strain/heat and figured it wasn't worth the hassle. Eventually I just forced myself to start going and it clicked right away. Everything you think will bother you becomes so insignificant when you're out, completely disconnected, chilling with friends and enjoying our world. Might not be the same for everyone, but that's how I fell into it.

Dat acne. Dat double chin. He (Kessel) is like a white American version of me, except somehow he is one of the fastest skaters in the NHL.

Stop shitting on my team. Start shitting on my finger.

You're not white?

Oh boy

EDIT: shit, why does this have to be at the top of the page :lol

Johansen had the same agent as Kyle Turris.

I'm seeing a pattern here lol.

Unless he's trying to get himself traded?

He knows he is exactly what C-bus never has had as a player and exactly what they need. They'll never trade him so he wants to be paid, now . I don't think extortion is too far off.

Seems like just plain greed on Johansen' part.

I feel like I read somewhere that the highest cap hit for someone in Johansens position was 3.5milish? I understand asking maybe for 4 to account for performance, larger cap etc but 6+ is insane.

Yep, and he's still very young with only 1 big season. What he's asking for is pretty ridiculous, and I would be pretty pissed if I was a Jackets fan.

Aren't there things like monsters and serial killers in the woods, though? No thanks.

Don't worry Babby will sign. He just wants to know if Colin Greening is going to get more ice time than him.

Ryan says he has told Murray and MacLean he'd like an expanded role. Will help with penalty kill this year. #Sens

Ryan says contract won't be an issue. "When you get out there you forget about it," says Ryan. #Sens

Maybe they could compromise with a 3 year, $14 million deal. He gets a higher AAV but Columbus get an extra year.

Giroux got 3 years, $11.25 million after scoring 47 points in the 09-10 season, 21 points in 23 playoff games, and starting off the 10-11 season at a PPG. But the cap has gone up since then.

I just remembered that the Pens traded their only scoring winger for scraps when their biggest weakness is wingers.

You forget about Fleury?

How good is he defensively? Never really knew him to be much of a defender.

You're there? Seems like a pretty good atmosphere from the online broadcast.

(sorry for the super late response)

Yeah, I was there. I was at a Rookie game at the facility in either 2011 or 2012 (I want to say it was 2012, but I can't find a record of the game actually happening lol) against the Devils, and this was at least 3 times more crowded than that game. They actually had to close the parking lot because of the crowding, so people were trickling in slowly as well over the first 2 periods as they found parking at a nearby movie theater.

Atmosphere was great, but there were too many people. They promised free shirts to the first 300 people, and I got there at 2:30 for the 3:00 start time and they were out.

The Rangers are going to be one of several teams that will be wearing chips embedded in their uniforms to better track stats. Apparently the plan is for every team to be using them by next season. Sounds pretty neat.

I heard that most/all NHL teams who share an arena with an NBA team will be doing it. Dunno if that's accurate.

Lol so we are going to lose our only top 4 dman and our only top 3 forward this season after losing 2 captains back to back seasons

This owner has killed this franchise single handedly.

The NHL has once again said no - for the time being - to selling prime space on team jerseys to sponsors, a move the league estimates would generate at least $120 million.

During a recent meeting of NHL team presidents in New York, league officials estimated they might raise $4 million per team by allowing corporate sponsors to put their logos front and centre on jerseys, a person familiar with the matter told TSN.

"Gary (Bettman) and owners like the money, but they don't want to be first out of the box with this in North America," the person told TSN. "They'll wait for the NBA or baseball to do it and then be second or third."

The NHL, like other mainstream North American sports, to this point has resisted breaking with tradition, even though NHL jerseys already carry advertising since jersey maker Reebok's logo is so prominent.

Major League Baseball may have been the first major North American sports league to consider the money-generating move. In 1999, MLB considered putting logos on the sleeves of player uniforms, but commissioner Bud Selig said no.

As recently as 2012, the NBA made up mock Boston Celtics and Chicago Bulls jerseys with sponsor logos in place of the 'Celtics' and 'Bulls' names on the front. The NBA ultimately decided against the move.

Sports marketing experts say a corporate presence on NHL jerseys is inevitable. Traditions change, after all. The NBA abandoned short shorts and the NHL, too, has tinkered with its uniforms through the years, at times allowing teams to wear white skates and long hockey pants called Cooperalls that ran from the waists of players to their ankles.

"The AHL added patched in the late 1980s and it really wasn't a big deal," said Bob Stellick, a former Toronto Maple Leafs marketing official whose clients have included McDonald's and the Royal Bank of Canada. "Look at English soccer or TFC. They ask people to purchase jerseys with a huge BMO logo and it doesn't seem to be a deterrent."

He can play hardball though.

On [Canucks GM Jim Benning's] first day in the office, one of the first calls he took came from Kesler. He wanted to meet. And now.

“I just kind of inherited it,” Benning said. “I heard from the outside what was going on. But when you take over a job, you hope for the best.

“That wasn’t going to be the case.”

From there, the Kesler drama hit him like a bag of hammers. Literally every day.

“I talked to (Kesler’s agent) Kurt Overhardt every morning and before I went to bed every night,” Benning said.

“I said to Kurt, when my wife was in Boston with the kids, ‘I only talk to my wife once a day, but I talk to you twice a day.’

“He got a good laugh out of that.

“There was a lot of threats both ways. Kurt would phone and yell and scream at me. I’d yell and scream at him. We’d put it to bed.

“The next we’d wake up and start all over again.

“That’s what happened.

“I wish Ryan all the luck. We want players who want to play for our team.”
