What's up with the character tripping and going into a flailing animation?

Watched the twitch stream. Apparently the weapons are auto assigned? Not sure how I feel about that. Haven't seen a single auto impalement either, hope they didn't take them out.
fact : I could use a naked-homer-barbarian-shaking/turning-red gif right about now!
All in the spirit of levity, of course.
Because we're talking about the aesthetics of a video game. It's nothing but opinions. I think the game looks like poopy. It's apparent that a sizable number of people agree given how the game has been received. That's the extent to which objectivity plays a role here.
Yeah, I didn't see anything too severe in the comments before they went bye-bye in terms of attacking the devs but there was a lot of "holy heck thats ugly" mixed in with a small sprinkling of "I like the way it looks".That is a real bummer. I'm not in love with the art style but I wasn't in love with the first game's either. Nidhogg's gameplay is paramount, I don't give a shit beyond that.
Making an educated guess but I suspect that wasn't a trip but just the animated reaction of them walking off the edge and falling to the level below :3What's up with the character tripping and going into a flailing animation?

After I posted that I started getting the feeling that was the case. I think in the end this game is gonna be great fun and everyone will accept it.Just checked Niddhog 1 and they do the exact same flailing bellyflop animation when running off a ledge.
Perhaps this new artstyle was their original intentions after all...

I'm not inclined to believe everything indie developers tell me these days.
So the comments are disabled on the video now and Mark Essen (nidhogg creator) retweeted some tweet calling people that don't like or appreciate the new gaudy artstyle "haters".
Great, just great.
Haters are generally known for disliking something for the sole intent of disliking something. Using that label for a bad reaction is basically a poor attempt to shield yourself from any valid criticism. Is it not okay to call people that dislike an aesthetic choice "haters"? I prefer the look of the original game and take no offense to being labeled as a "hater" of the new art style.

He's not wrong that people hate it
Whether that's an insult or not is up to you

If you are still on high school and don't want to engage anyone on a civil level, yeah go for it.
Hype as fuck. Up there with Rocket League, Q3A/CPMA, and Ratz as GOAT LAN Game. Glad to see a new one.
In a game that is sooooooooooooooo about the mechanics, why would art style be an issue either way?
Haha, yeah. If people have been asking him to change it at this stage in development that's a bit much....but nothing wrong with voicing opinions on it. Especially when people were fans of the originalIt's no that I have a problem being labeled hater, it's the fact that it's a way to dismiss dissenting opinions about the new artstlye when there is lots of valid criticism and opinions regarding it.
I personally think labeling people who simply don't like the dramatic change in artstyle "haters" is lazy and dismissive especially when lots of people who criticize it are fans of the first game.

There's plenty to be said about a more busy art style causing readabity problems, especially for a game that uses one hit kills and requires quick reflexes.I think you're putting words in his mouth a bit here. He could (and most likely) just found that tweet amusing.
What are the valid criticisms anyways? People don't like the same art that he does? I don't really get that.

I just think retweeting that specific positive tweet with that "hater" tidbit pretty telling after the fact that the youtube teaser got it's comments disabled after lots of fans voiced their crtiticism and bewilderment of the new artstyle in the comment section.
The developer doesn't need to explain his creative choices or engage in any debate. Ultimately it's the customers who will decide if the game is appealing or not anyway.
Messhof doesn't owe any sort of civil engagement with anyone, especially with all the anger surrounding the "shitty" artstyle and unreasonable demands levied at him, like changing the artstyle late into development.

you have to let creators create, no matter how valid you feel you opinion might be. you'd rather the devs cower and smoosh creative art in service of not offending the public? that's a shitty road to go down
