NiGHTS into Dreams Announced for XBLA, PSN, PC

Now if we could just get HD Skies of Arcadia...

Yes, that would be amazing. Case in point (click for full resolution):

One of the finest score attack games ever made. The leaderboards should be fascinating, if Sega polices them well enough.

I played the heck out of Nights back in the day on the Saturn and absolutely loved it. Christmas Nights was just as good if not better. This is a big win for anyone who hasn't played the originals and should be great in HD @ 60fps.

Anyone hoping for Chrismas NiGHTS should look at the PS2 release. It had the level and cutscenes, but most of the presents were absent. Sega being what they are now, this is just a port of that.

Phantasy Star Online 1,2,4 bundled
Phantasy Star Online 3 Card Revolution can be left on a dumpster.

Also, is a HD collection really a sign of Sega getting "back on track" or "returning to form?" I mean, I get it, it's a beloved cult classic, but come on.

Sega has been making a lot of smart decisions lately. Well, aside from the Anarchy Reigns thing.

As someone already mentioned, releasing Christmas NiGHTS on Christmas would be absolutely genius.

They can't miss this opportunity!

Great, looks like I have something to be along with Final Fantasy VII on Steam soon.

And people are actually looking positive about this one. Though I don't know how the situation is much different other than the fact the fandom mostly comprises of people loudly shouting for a complete remake every day for years now and need something to take it out on.

Oh, but hey, I like this. I like where things are going. It's less surprising coming from SEGA when they've been putting stuff on the PC and Steam for a while now. But still good. At this rate, maybe I'll get to have most of the games I love on Steam someday.

Fantastic news from SEGA. I guess producers like Yousuke Okunari have shown the way of the digital HD re-release, and how it costs much less and does much better than, say, Binary Domain (though I'm sure BD wasn't a total waste, as it is a great game).
Digital Sega balls so hard.

I liked NiGHTS initially despite not being much of a play for score person. I'll probably get this.
Really? I always took you for a score-centric kind of player. Didn't you used to post your latest tables over at Insomnia, years ago?

Anyway: this is clearly a Western version of the SEGA AGES 2500 port that came out in recent times. And that's okay with me, since it's a cheap-and-easy release that'll do well. If they package Christmas NiGHTs with it (presuming it was in the SEGA AGES release?), then I'll be a happy man.

OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG!!!

Great Sega, now I have to change my pants!

Seriouisly though, this is such awesome news. Sega's killing it on the digital front these days.

Shit: really? A gimped Christmas NiGHTs just ain't cool, mang. I'll take it, though. Better than nothing.

NiGHTS is one of the best SEGA games IMO, so a HD remake is very well deserved.

I hope they bundle Christmas NiGHTS with it. I’d even be happy buying it as DLC! Can’t wait to pick this up on XBLA. I might double dip and get it on Steam too! Seriously cannot wait.

Meh, just play PSO2 on PC. It's the best thing you can get, and it's free to play.

However, it's only in Japanese. But I have faith a English version will come out.

I only really posted in the Captain Commando thread (lol) and 1CC lists. I do really like some scoring systems, but I usually find myself moving on after a clear.

It's been a long, long time since I played through Saturn NiGHTS, though. I hardly remember how scoring or those stage rankings worked.

For the most part: the scoring system's based on maintaining a growing quantity of links. It's all got to do with keeping momentum and forming an efficient pattern of movement through each level, and remembering to take advantage of the trick system and hidden grab-ables.

I still have my Christmas nights expansion that came with some magazine back in the day. Nostalgia like whoa.

Steam too? FUuuuuUuuuuuuuuckkkkk Yeeeeeeeeeeesssss!!!! It almost feels like they're Sega of old again, all the incredible moves they've been making in the DD space lately.

This is like someone wanting to have sex with Hepburn and you tell them to have sex with Portman. Sure it's also great, but it's not the same.

This is great news, although it does seem to be the PS2 version with extras rather than the proper HD treatment the game deserves. But something is most certainly better than nothing in this case, and I'll be there day 1.

Now when's the release date for Jet Set Radio?

I hope they give their future Saturn ports the same love and attention the Dreamcast port of JSR is getting and their arcade games and the new M2 versions of the Mega Drive/Genesis titles.

A Sega that treats it's back catalogue with respect instead of quick as possible cheap ports, like the Ultimate Mega Drive Collection and the Dreamcast collection discs, deserves our money.

I really do think the positive response they received from Sonic CD was the breaking point; iirc, and I cant remember the exact wording, they've since noted that shitty ports are a thing of the past.

It definitely seems that they're following through on that.

yeah... i'll bite

now... let's get some Burning Rangers HD going!

I really want HD ports of Panzer Dragoon 1 and 2.

It'd be neat if Christmas NiGHTS was only accessible during December. Kinda.

Actually the original Christmas Nights already had that. The game used the Saturn's internal clock, and in December it would unlock Christmas Nights. In November and January, the game would change to Winter Nights. There were also other hidden modes like new Years Day, valentines day and Aprils Fools Day and such. Also a hidden Sonic the Hedgehog mode. That lets you play Nights with Sonic.

The sooner Sega releases their entire back catalogue in HD, the better.

Except Sega Touring Car, that can stay in the past.

Edit- Give us a home port of Scud Race and I will love you forever, Sega!

Awesome. Yet another digital purchase for me to make from Sega.

Though I wish they'd announce a date for JSR already.

Digital-focused SEGA is best SEGA.

Pretty much. They've been making right move after right move. If they announce Skies of Arcadia next, I'll be one happy customer.
