NiGHTS into Dreams Announced for XBLA, PSN, PC

I do not believe the ridges were the reason the controls felt off in the sequel, it was just that the controls were shittily programmed, a problem permeating all modern Sonic Team games. Take for example any of the recent Sonic games, no matter the platform, they control like shit.

I thought Sonic Generations for the PC (with 360 controller) plays just fine.

Even Keio Flying Squadron. Which is obviously super in-demand. And obviously SEGA has the rights to it and not JVC.

...

I love Keio Flying Squadron by the way. I'd love a re-release of that game for any platform.

Bleh, cute-em-ups are for lamers.

If you're talking about the sequel... well, I didn't play it. But it's still too cute. Even Punky Skunk looks cooler.

I'm pretty sure the music's always been the same. However: certain parts of each level had different instrumentation and arrangement, and this snippet from the main track might have been a variation.

Dreams Dreams may be the main theme, but it's not an accurate representation of the game's musical style.

The difference between the two controllers is like day and night though.
Trust me on this one. ;)

I support this comment! The Saturn d-pad is still amazing, but NiGHTS must be played using the 3D pad. It feels and plays so much better with the analogue stick, I couldn't manage it without!

I wouldn't be surprised if Christmas NiGHTS is DLC, much like the DX content for Sonic Adventure.

I've never played NiGHTS, so I'll be checking this out.

Thread title needs some mod editing.
It's NiGHTS, not Nights.
And it's not an "HD Collection". That would imply it includes Journey into Dreams (Wii). We don't even know if this includes Christmas NiGHTS either.

Anyway, I hope something is hinted or said if Christmas NiGHTS is included.
People are saying this is most likely based on the JP PS2 port, but you have to remember there will be some tweaking (localization of menus, etc).

I wouldn't be surprised if they went in and manually removed Christmas NiGHTS. I mean, I'd gladly pay for it as DLC, but if so, it better include all the presents/Sonic mode that wasn't in the PS2 port.

So which is most likely to happen:

A) JP PS2 NiGHTS upscaled/menus localized, but with Christmas NiGHTS removed
B) JP PS2 NiGHTS upscaled/menus localized, but with Christmas NiGHTS as DLC
C) JP PS2 NiGHTS upscaled/menus localized, with Christmas NiGHTS intact but missing Saturn extras (basically an almost direct up-port of the JP PS2 ver.)
D) JP PS2 NiGHTS upscaled/menus localized, with Christmas NiGHTS as DLC with all Saturn extras
E) SEGA Saturn NiGHTS upscaled/menus localized, Christmas NiGHTS not included

I hope Nintendo is again in NDA mode which is why we're not seeing Wii U announcements of these.

Me, I'd much prefer a retail compilation ala the 1st Dreamcast Collection, anyone want to fill me in with a list of Sega ones so far?

Hey if they can push in all of them to date (including NiGHTS and SA2) on one Wii U disc, that'd get $50 from me, there's what, 10 now?

Or just give me NiGHTS, Panzer Dragoon, and Virtual On, all HD versions of the PS2 Ages games, on one disc, I'm a happy camper. Just SOMETHING as a compensation for the lack of these on Wii U. :(

I'd want a 2-pack of SA1 & 2, but SA1 isn't a true remaster (4:3 and 480p wut), only SA2 looks to be that.

A Wii U debut of a second, real SA1 remaster would be great, but make it fair and give the other consoles it as well. :)

Luckily I have SA1 & 2 on GC, got new copies about 3 years ago and they're still mint. :)

Panzer Dragoon Saga is next, right Sega?

I don't see this as being an easy port, if possible. First of all, Sega claims to have lost of source code to the game. Decompiling and re-writing the Saturn version could be a big problem if that is the case.

Though, I'm not really sure what method they used to port Nights from the Saturn to the PS2. Did they still have the source code for the original Nights?

Day one buy. I'll buy it for 360 and PC if it's a good port. A fantastic game. Hoping Burning Rangers comes around too.

Also, betting they'll make Christmas NiGHTS DLC. imokaywiththis.gif

I wonder if Blit is doing all of these ports. Rumor is: After doing Sonic CD, they're handling at least JSR.

I totally agree... back when there was discussion about the Wii version there were definitely people who argued the game was essentially the same in terms of control. Comparing the Saturn and Wii versions I definitely didn't get that sense, but perhaps level design and camera issues also contributed to that.

I think Nights could get a rough reception, though. It carried a lot of weight as one of Sega's big Saturn games and people will remember it as a big deal. It was seen as taking on Mario 64 at the time... I really had a lot of fun with it back in the day, but I expect a lot of newcomers to the game will be disappointed, and some oldtimers may find it doesn't live up to their nostalgia.

Oh man, so hyped! I havnt played nights in years since I left my Saturn in the UK (live in Australia now), so this is awesome news!

With Sonic CD, Jet Set Radio and now this, SEGA have seriously been doleing out fan service that people previously could only ever dream about.

Seeing this happen has me excited for other Saturn games that Sega has long ignored. Wouldn't be surprised if Christmas NiGHTS was DLC.

Just wanted to add my voice to the chorus of people who are excited to be able to play this on modern consoles. NiGHTS was the reason I bought a Sega Saturn back in the day and it's still one of my top 3 games of all time. I've never had the chance to play Christmas NiGHTS, so here's hoping it's at least available as DLC. I will attain 400/400 achievements with this game on day 1 :)

I tried to communicate to my co-worker today what makes this game so special and why he shouldn't judge it by it's cover, but he scoffed that the game looks, "too whimsical." His loss!
