Nikkei: Project Cafe includes 6" touchscreen, camera, releasing [Middle 2012]

Don't underestimate the idea of a stand-alone handheld to play around the house. This is going to be huge to the same audience that bought Wiis.

I don't really see how NIntendo can wait so long. Early 2012 early but maybe. Spring 2012 seems more reasonable but Fall 2012? There is nothing coming for the Wii outside of what Nintendo might have up its sleeve. I guess Nintendo could go it alone on the console front and hope 3rd parties deliver on the 3DS during that time. They certainly have already move don from the Wii, at least the few that were there to any degree anyway.

I just hope they aren't forsaking the point remote. Rename it and include it. They have a huge number of people out there that prefer it for FPS and other genres. No reason not to include both options in the box.

Controller still makes no fucking sense, still sounds like they're throwing away the audience that made Wii successful by eliminating motion control as an out-of-the-box feature.
This seems to confirm my suspicion that they view the tablet market as their biggest threat, and thus want to focus on attacking it instead.

so basically fall of 2012? big mistake IMO. The Wii will be long dead by then.

At least Nintendo is releasing some games for it...Last Story, Xenoblade, Kirby, Rhythm Paradise, Skyward Sword, Zero, and a few other titles.

Additional controllers are going to be expensive.

definitely a weird choice from a company that profits so much from local multiplayer games like nsmb wii, mario kart and smash bros.

Yeah, playing on the wc, bring it on!

So how are they going to use the screen of the controller for gameplay purposes if the thing also turns into a semi handheld?

I don't know. This controller sounds very, very costly and I don't think that will be huge with audience that bought Wii's. Cause it would be a miracle if this controller is less than fifty bucks and have the ability to stream video and send inputs from a console, in addition to packing a 6" touch screen.

I keep thinking it is going to be HUGE...but it should be alittle bigger than this..

I doubt using this controller will be the only way to play Wii2 games...Nintendo has always been about multiplayer and group games....I'm sure you can use the regular dual stick controller for party games.

A good point, they are effectively removing the TV from the console equation (as a constant).

But this strategy seems very odd and confuses their direction. On with E3!

Yup, it seems like they're trying to target the ipad/iphone people here. 3ds will remain the core handheld and this will target the ipad/iphone people?

Almost everything in this article is confirming existing (credible) rumors. What's the big deal?

They're trying too many shit at once. Pick a shtick Nintendo.

Which is why I said "out-of-the-box."

also, 3DS cannibalization confirmed!

nahhh... you can use it like a handheld but not necessarily out of the house. I don't see the conflict with any handheld really.

should very popular among kids (and the parents of kids) who don't want to stop playing their game when dad comes into the living room to watch the news.

Who gives a shit about the controller
I want a new Mario

Nintendo's controllers usually are as important to their games as the systems themselves, sometimes more important.

They really care about controllers and usually make them to get the best ouf the game they have plans for.

But yeah, nothing will trump the actual first party games.

Could you explain this to me?

How does the motion control audience transfer over to the stand-alone handheld gamer audience?

i hope you'll be able to stream your transfar from the cloud to your vita and steam and the cafe and wii GOD GAMING IS SO DUMB

Well it has a built in camera. More importantly the casual audience have shown with the Kinect that they arnt adverse to buying addons so including or forcing weird motion control schemes out of the box probably isnt as necessary. Id expect them to offer some update to the Wiimote sooner or later.

I'm talking more about families.

Nintendo better have Apple designing this sucker because I have a feeling its going to bulky as hell.

Well, what Nintendo controller has ever been uncomfortable in the past???

Sure, they have had unideal button placement for many third party games but they usually get the controllers' feel right.

Stealing games from the other systems. While people are trying to Transfar their games from their PS3, sneaky Cafe owners can also leech the transfarr and get the game as well!

Just hoping that this all makes sense on Tuesday, because right now, it doesn't on multiple levels. Also hoping that Anoop got the "Q3 or later" part wrong, though he probably didn't. :/

So pretty much a confirmation of some things that were rumoured then? I'm good for an after-June release. I expected that when I first heard about it anyway. Still have Zelda, Xenoblade and possibly Last Story to play (not to mention the list of games I still haven't bought)

Unideal button placement leads to discomfort, like the N64 controller. But they have pretty much been fine since then.

Actually if the setup is as blunt as the article portrays it (use one screen or the other) I'd be disappointed, but will wait and see if that turns out true.

Why using a 6'' touch screen I wonder. For me, it is just a gimmick and will make the controller awfully expensive.

You have no idea how it's being used. After you have, then you can say whether it's a gimmick or not.
