Nintendo 3DS Games: what does this thing have?

Considering picking up the Pac man/galaga as I enjoy both games in general but not interested in "just another re-release" - worth it? Are the new modes awful? Are CE and Legions in 3D? What's the verdict...

The new versions aren't brilliant, but they're fun enough. Pac-Man Tilt is a decent but occasionally frustrating sidescroller and Galaga 3D Impact is a neat rail shooter. CE and Legions are 3D, but it's used mostly in terms of partical effects and score markers popping up from the screen. The original arcade games also have a 3D effect that's kind of like the "looking in a cabinet screen" type that Virtual Console games use.

It's a decent collection if you can score it for the right price.

Hello 3DS GAFfers! I recently just picked up a $20 3DS Pre-paid card and was wondering on what games I should buy with it. I was considering buying Kirby Adventure 3D Classic, and the Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX. Have any good suggestions?

Just be sure to switch inmediatly to classic control scheme. And Normal difficulty is way easy so you might wanna go ahead and go with hard right away, seeing there's a 4th tier difficulty after you beat the game.

It doesn't even support CCP in the west, but I'm not even sure why one would need one.

I think I've always used it to look around on previous Ace Combat games. Its been so long since I've played a game in the series. Well I did order it, unfortunately its coming after the long weekend...

Earlier in this thread I asked for some recommendations for some laid back, relaxing, games for my wife. Thanks for that btw, she tried Pilot Wings Resort and enjoys it. She is hooked on NSMB2 mainly though, "beat" the game last night and is now started going back for the star coins and started asking for more games to play. Well, she turned on 3D Land now and is just as hooked, if not more so. She is even trying to get all of the star coins in that one now.

3DL is the first game she has ever played like that. She played NES and SNES back in the day growing up, but has never until 3DL played a game other than a 2D sidescroller. It took her a bit of time to "get" the movement, but she has it now. I never thought I'd get her to play games like that. It looks like this crazy world may be opening up to her! For that reason, thanks Nintendo and the 3DS. :)

I'll ease her on to the sidescrolling Wii titles now like NSMB Wii and Donkey Kong Country Returns (she LOVED DKC back in the day). Heck, last night she even said she may want to try playing a Zelda game soon. God knows she has watched me play a number of them over the last year that we have been married.

I guess it's time for New Donkey Kong Country!

Revelations is great but it seems to drag on forever. I think I was close to passing the game but some kid gave me 25 bucks for it so I sold it.
I had passed that underwater part with lasers and shit, how far was I from the end?

There are
_12_
chapters.

Galaga 3D Impact is better than Lylat Wars.

Pac-Man Tilt is a decent platformer.

im actually quite suprised how good resident evil revelations is.

and the production values are off the charts! blew me out of the water.
and i had the 3ds for 6~ months, thought mario 3ds sucked, gave up after 10~ minutes in kid Ikurus.

give it a try people!

I thought it was genius, only issue I had was that it was too easy.... for the 1st half of the game at least

Do yourself a (really) HUGE favor and finish Mario3DLand and Kid Icarus.

I picked up New Art Academy for £20 in Asda (uk) and... Wow, its actually really awesome. The lesson content is huge and they're actually good. It might even get me in to the real thing...

Today I picked up Mario Tennis and Revelations.

Enjoying both games. Revelations is really good. I've only played a couple of chapters but it's been brilliant so far. Possibly a little easy but that's giving me time to learn how to play it and to really enjoy the game.

I've picked up RE:Revelations, KI,NSMB2 and pokemon white this past month. I played around 2 hours of revelations and got to this monster who kinda scares me so I've been putting off getting into the game again :p
Is there a way to reduce difficulty on an already saved game?

Kid icarus controls clicked with me straight away, I guess I had expected completely broken controls from many impressions. But they really do suit the game and you won't have any issues after perhaps 10 or so minutes.

NSMB2 I've played for around 2 hours too, but I've let my cousin borrow that for now as I'm hooked on pokemon white- haven't played a pokemon game in around 6 years. Already sunk around 12 hours into it and its shot up into the #1 slot for average time spent playing. I really thought I was over pokemon but I guess this proved otherwise.

I'm extremely happy with the 3ds its been a great first year, I already have 9 3ds games and 1 ds game for it. I've never bought that many games for any system ever in a year.

Back to pokemon :D

Awwww mannnnnnn. I haven't received that email yet but I guess I should prepare myself.

I was looking forward to getting this game :(

Edit: So I decided to go to Gamestop, trade in Pilotwings Resort (which they gave $6 for. Why not? It was a free game from Gamestop and I don't see myself playing it) and used that to buy 4 Heroes of Light, used. Just had to pay 8 bucks from my pocket. I wasn't going to let Best Buy ruin my day, lol.

I've been to both best buy and gamestop and neither of them have had any copies of it :/.

Does anybody know where to buy new Circle Pads (not CPP's), like replacements? Mine is tearing down... (I've had my unit since launch)
jzEmwgP6K0pUw_e.jpg
Some pieces just started coming off suddenly some weeks ago, which is weird because I've taken really good care of it :(

I want to replace the stick and sell it so that I can finally get an XL, and make it look like this badass motherfucker.

Oh dear...

Did you check the Nintendo store? Or maybe just contact them directly. Derp.

Yep, I've checked a lot of stores that sell replacement pieces (including the official Nintendo one) and none of them sell the plastic piece. Some of them sell the piece that goes below the Circle Pad, but I don't need that. I've e-mailed Nintendo :)

This worries me...

I got a 3DS eshop card from Walmart and every time I enter the code, I get an error code on the eShop. Is there some kind of activation for the codes?

oh, i finished 3Dland, (to the bonus stages) but it just didnt have that... mario magic that clicked with me . (still waiting for Super Mario Land! )

and i can't overlook Icarus :( i just cant! the controls actually gave me a headache when i was playing! i bet it has great gameplay and entertaining story though.

i picked up Doctor Lautrec and Rythem Thief!

the latter is fantasic! seriously, more people should play this damn game.

Doctor Lautrec is... entertaining :)

it was easy, but i also thought it wasn't fun. like it's a chore to finish the levels.
and Platforming is my favourite genre! i really wish i can get back to the mario game, but i feel like the creative side of mario have gone down abit.

^ Not original, but I guess you could try these:

But I can't seem to find anywhere selling them other than Chinese sites, in which case I think you'd be looking at around $20 shipped, so I guess it's not exactly the best option :(

Edit: YesAsia has them: http://www.yesasia.com/us/3ds-slide-pad-cover-clear-japan-version/1031262035-0-0-0-en/info.html

I got these (from amiami though, much cheaper) but they suck IMO. Half of them don't even fit, and it's hard plastic instead of rubber. And the 3DS doesn't close properly with it on so I have to remove it each time. I'll probably only use when I replay OoT (Master Quest)

Thanks! They're $13 and look somewhat strange, but I think that they'll do the job if Nintendo doesn't reply or if they can't provide me with a Slide Pad.

Damn, they're $4 at amiami, but they're sold out.
I think that these are more like covers for the Slide Pad, aren't they? Maybe if I remove the Slide Pad completely those will fit nicely.
Oh well, I'll wait for a response from Nintendo before attempting this.

What is wrong with Abyss? I thought it was praised by fans on the ps2.

The game's a pretty mixed bag. It has great dungeons and combat but at the same time has a terrible plot, annoying characters and a boring overworld. The pacing also completely falls apart around the 20 hour mark and the game becomes excessively cutscene and forced overworld backtracking heavy.

Anyone played much of Bit Trip Saga?

I only played a bit of the first game on WiiWare so was looking to get either the 3DS or Wii complete pack...... I hear the 3DS one isn't that great port wise and the Wii one is great but the games seem more like things I'd rather play on handhelds as apposed to console release. Not sure which pack to look for.

There's a newer listing that is on backorder

But I wouldn't recommend them anyway.

Ehh I picked it up as an early game for 3DS. It works fine enough, but the 3D's mostly distracting since the games are so visually bonkers. If you're already on board and you can find it cheap, go for it, but its hardly essential.

Thanks for posting that. It's really nice to read something positive in here.

Sweet :). I've been working through the original on my DSiXL and have been very impressed with it. Am holding off on the new one until I can get it at a decent download price though. Besides I have too much still to do in the first Art Academy. I have only two main lessons to do but quite a few supplementary ones to tackle. Plus I wish to re-do many of them to really get my hang around what they are teaching me. For anyone who wishes to work on their drawing skillz, I heartily recommend Art Academy. Oh, Downhome, your wife might be interested. It's not a game as such but...

Oh and the love for Revelaitons ITT recently pleases me :).

I have it and in my experience they run pretty well except for certain stages in Bit. Trip Runner with 3D on. With it off performance is mostly acceptable, but still not always perfect. Definitely a nice title to have if you can get it for the right price ($20 or so).

As a left-hander I found it mostly unplayable.

Yep. It's pretty great. Although I was alarmed by the stick controls in Beat. Touch screen appeared to be the only way to go. Otherwise, no problem!

Any must have RPGs right now? I'm going insane waiting on Animal Crossing and Harvest Moon that I need games that'll last me a looooooooooooooooong time :(

Thanks for the advice on Bit Trip, I almost play exclusively with 3D off and I'm right handed so it sounds ok heh.

And yea they're cheap now thats why I was thinking of getting one, just couldn't decide whether I should get the 3DS or the Wii one.

This worries me...

The cashier should have scanned it through the terminal to activate it. Entering the code should work. It's either they didn't activate the eShop card or it's a faulty code (it happens). Considering it's walmart though, you could always just say it didn't work and return it and get a new card. Worst comes to worst, call Nintendo and they should be able to give you the money on eShop.

Is Kid Icarus touch based like the 2 Zelda DS games that broke my little gaming heart with there crappy stylus controls?

it's...

it's not a top down adventure game that only controls via stylus

We're all waiting for Denpa Ningen 'cause there are no good rpg's for the system atm

Has Nintendo said anything about more full retail games releasing at the eShop?

The confirmed ones, as far as I know:

-Kingdom Hearts 3D
-Epic Mickey The Power of Illusion
-Paper Mario Sticker Star
-Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon
-Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracle (EU confirmed, I doubt that it will not be released on NA eShop also)
-Castlevania Lords of Shadows
-Scribblenauts Unlimited
