Nintendo 3DS smuggled off a Chinese assembly line

The thing is, devs are practiced and skilled with implementing camera control to the right stick. They are used to building games that feature that setup. Why would any hardware manufacturer want developers to not use the full talent they have with particular types of games or controls?
That's a good question. On Nintendo's part, maybe it has to do with accessibility or something? Maybe they think 3D + dual-analog controls will be too much for some folks?

Personally, I'm a bit stubborn, and one of the reasons I love the DS is because its limitations make it distinctly handheld. I had a PSP for a while and it did feel too much like it was a handheld playing console games (with exceptions). The 3DS pretty much had to step towards being more PSP-like considering hardware enhancements and future-proofing, but that doesn't mean I necessarily approve of it moving away from its DS roots. Yeah, I'm excited for games like RE: Revelations which were pretty much not seen on the DS at all, but again, I'm stubborn and I don't necessarily want to see all developer support being like Capcom's, with games that seemingly reflect console ideals more than handheld ones.

Maybe eliminating the right-stick factor keeps everyone in the mindset that this is still primarily a Nintendo handheld system, not a console. But, hell, I can't really say.

There's a billion incredible games coming out this year, 3DS is like small potatoes compared to the games I want. On the priority list it's all Paper Mario 3DS.

So if I don't get it at launch, I won't feel like I'm missing much. There's like eleventy billion games coming I will be in process playing. The launch window lineup looks really unappealing outside of Paper Mario 3DS for me.
Yeah, that's what I mean, that's definately as good a choice as any, but if you're getting it, you could get it right away and explore the system. Then again, I don't understand your hate for launch software, except for PS3 everything is pretty solid for most parts.

Launch software across all platforms is a joke. I cannot comprehend any argument to the contrary. We go through this same song and dance every launch. The same crap feature deprived tech demos are lauded by fanboys and then forgotten when legitimate high quality games with decent development time frames come out and show what is actually possible. Can't wait for this launch's FEEL THE MAGIC XX/XY :lol

We get like 1 memorable game at every launch AT BEST, and when we get more than that (Wave Race 64, Super Mario 64) there's absolutely nothing else at all... literally!

I'm shocked by all the matte fans. I find that my DSi picks up every nick and mark on it because of the finish. Gimme gloss any day.

Matte fan myself. I think it looks nicer and feels quite a bit better. I'd be surprised and disappointed if the first revision isn't matte.

As opposed to gloss, which after two hours looks like it has been dropped into an 2000 year old tomb and glomped by every sweaty hand this side of the Las Vegas strip.

Gloss is better for light-colored systems, with matte being better for dark-colored ones.

Then again, I'm not against the prospect of many colors for each. Let the people decide what they want. I've never enjoyed color/finish limitations.

But have you SEEN the likely launch titles for this sucker? Super Street Fighter IV, DOA, Zelda, Kid Icarus, Nintendogs & Cats, Super Monkeyball, Pilotwings Resort, Professor Layton...and that's just a small list pff the top of my head of what I think is likely, Nintendo said this was going to be their strongest third party launch...ever.

And your thing about more than one totally breaks down when you go back to the SNES, which not only had one of the best launches of all time, but the huge awesome AAA games just kept coming over the next year.

I am guessing we will get mostly the same launch lineup as Japan for the 3DS though Layton is doubtful as #4 hasnt released yet outside of japan let alone to bring number 5.

Japan is launching with
1. Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3DS – Nintendo
2. Nintendogs + Cats – Nintendo
3. Pilotwings Resort – Nintendo
4. Pro Baseball Spirits – Konami
5. Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracle – Level 5
6. Ridge Racer 3D – Namco Bandai
7. Samurai Warriors Chronicle – Tecmo Koei
8. Steel Diver – Nintendo
9. Super Monkey Ball – Sega
10. Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition – Capcom

Oh yeah DS was horrible as well, but thankfully GBA was very much alive and kicking. But plenty of cool software appears at launch, SSX, Blue Storm and Melee, PGR, Zelda and ExciteTruck (and wii sports but you hate it), Dreamcast launch, and SNES launch.

I guess my point is, rather than list warz, is that to me, it's easier to make the high initial investment of the platform at the beggining and then go around trading games and buying games. I basically have the entire 360 backlog to play, and I'll end up ignoring a bunch of games I think. That's just how I work.

That supposed launch list is just a rumor, all sites quoting that rumor link to the same site (Softpedia), which gives no source at all, not even "sources tell us".

That's quite the description. I guess I just manage to keep my systems cleaner than most folks. I'd rather have smudges to wipe away than permanent scratches, but to each their own.

Gloss just makes every mark and nick a gazillion times more noticeable to me.

It's not helping when a lot of the glossy things are black as well, which just multiplies the effect. :lol

This is a strong launch lineup? *shrug*

Virtual pet shit? DOA one of the worst fighting franchises ever? Another Street Fighter IV? Another version of Ocarina? I played that game 1000 time, and the new art style looks weak. No interest. Professor Layton, aka shuffle thy $1 puzzle book madness? Layton games are basically interchangeable at this point.

Really, I'd be vaguely interested in Monkey Ball if SEGA hadn't fucked up the last, like, twelve iterations of Monkey Ball, but that's about it. For me it's Paper Mario 3DS or bust.

Reminds me of a black automobile, nothing looks better than it when clean but it's hard to maintain it being that way a lot of the time.

To me, gloss looks better(when clean) and matte feels better.

the gba had castlevania circle of the moon, chu chu rocket, super mario 2, rayman and fire pro wrestling at launch

the psp had wipeout pure, lumines and ridge racer

that's quite good

Would be sick if you could set up chatroom similiar to what's on the PS3. Would make setting up GAF online matches like in SSFIV super easy.

You make me both sad and angry.

But mostly angry.

All launch lineups or most of them usually are shit but all you need is that one game to tide you over until the real games start coming out and though it's not new, Ocarina should suffice even if it's a remake.

Just its length and the added content and the 3D itself make it a more than nice filler title for me.

I hear what you're saying.

For me, personally though, being able to practice SSF4 on the go is so freakin awesome.

Yup. Like I said, for me that one game is Paper Mario 3DS. Ocarina cannot interest me. I mean, it's a great game but I've literally played the Ocarina games like a billion times. The only way my mind would change on that is if they added in substantial new content.

Yeah, I like Street Fighter IV a lot. However, the fact that it's on a handheld means worst control. Nothing replacing my arcade stick. And second, I'm not buying a system for a port.

Why the love for Paper Mario? I always found the games to be spin-offs from old SMB with some gimmicks attached to it. OoT is the real deal here.

wait...like... spin off from old SMB in that they... both star Mario?

OoT was the real deal, 30 years ago. It's time to move on. :lol

I think the killer launch game could be RE:Mercenaries, but only as long as it packs enough content and a decent online mode to justify the 40€ price tag.

Well it's not like it's the same quality...right?

well they're both astoundingly high quality. But they contain such different gameplay that's it's a little weird to just call it like a old Super Mario Bros. spin off and call it a day.

One is an RPG i mean!

Edit:

<3 Gamecube

You're talking about personal taste, I'm talking about quality best-sellers as launch titles. I personally may not be that interested in Nintendogs, for example, but that's one of the best selling videogame franchises of all time, definitely a AAA title, and one we know will be a lot more than just a tech demo.

i want a N64 remake of paper mario, i never beat it :'(

hmmmmm i wish N64 vc games would be on the 3DS vc but no way in hell that happens :lol

Monkey ball for launch could be amazing if it is like SMB 1 or 2, the multiplayer of those games were godly

No one loves Zelda more than me, but I don't really get all the hype for the OOT 3DS port.

Unless it features substantial new content...

No way, with them selling the OOT remake at retail.

GRRRR, I wish my VC library carried over to all of my Nintendo systems, like the PS1 classics on PSN go to PSP and PS3. That is so awesome.

EDIT - At above post, not everyone plays through OOT every year. I haven't played through it in at least 5 years or so, and I'm excited to play through the remake. Yeah, it might not stand up well, but I have a feeling its gonna be sweet.

Also, I hope Kid Icarus comes out fast, because its going to be SICK.

The first Nintendogs was nothing more than a glorified tech demo, why would the sequel be anything better? AAA my fucking ass. I could think of a trillion ways to improve it and I fucking hate virtual pets. That's the type of low quality shit that might get accepted in the official Nintendogs thread but if all you're talking about is sales then sure, AAAAAAAAA quality!!

i thought it was the worst console/system nintendo ever made

Unless it features substantial new content...

It's cleaned up both in graphics and especially animation, it's now in 3D and it's portable.

That won't phase you but it gets a lot of people excited but only because it's one of the best games of all time.

I loved the Gamecube. It was a fucking infinity times superior to the N64 and Virtual Boy and Gameboy, to name three other Nintendo systems.

Of course, it's kinda unfair. N64 was one of the worst successful systems of all time. Genuinely fucking horrendous.
