Nintendo: Bayonetta's New Home

I think acquiring studios is a bad idea, since employee turnover is a huge risk and buying IP's is more lucrative.

I mean, what's to stop Kamiya or Inaba from leaving Platinum if they feel like they want to make games for other platforms besides Nintendo? They were owned by Capcom under the Clover Studios name and then ditched them because they wanted creative control.

Even if Nintendo bought Platinum and said "you have our funding, do whatever you want" the main staff members who make Platinum "Platinum" might leave eventually and then your left with a big name studio being a shell of its former self (see Rare, after being bought by Microsoft).

With all the love in the air between these two companies, I'm actually sort of surprised we haven't heard about Nintendo trying to buy some stock in Platinum. But if Nintendo keeps up the game funding I wouldn't be surprised to see Platinum dub a small core team the 'Nintendo team' unofficially, as the team that primarily makes games for Nintendo.

Really surprising to hear Nintendo pretty much OK'd their ideas and just gave them total freedom on the development. Not many times I commend Nintendo, but this would be one of them, good job.

Interesting! Hope he's teasing something else!

My impression was that he was just talking about the game itself, referring to the climactic ending maybe. I hope for more collaborations with Nintendo though.

If they were to buy Platinum (or any other studio) I'm sure they'll ask first if they want to get bought. If the answer is yes, the staff won't leave.

Look what happened with Monolithsoft. They wanted to be bought by Nintendo, and the big names are still there, now with a bigger budget and free reign.

I wouldn't be surprised if that's already happened.

Please keep Bayonetta away from Smash. Apart from that Nintendo can do whatever it wants with the IP.

I really don't think Nintendo has any intention of buying Platinum, but rather cultivating a good relationship for the development of future software.

I don't think they'll ever really only make Nintendo games, since as they've stated themselves, they're a development studio that makes games on contract with publishers. Seems to be what they enjoy doing, take up projects as they come from the outside, and then doing passion projects with Nintendo

Re-watched the video, and it does seem that Nintendo was intending to publish a third game with Platinum Games. Will the freed up Bayonetta 2 team now move over to the next project, or maybe Nintendo has changed their plans? Either way, here's the quote:

"But at Platinum Games, there's not enough people to do a sequel for Bayonetta as well as work on another project for Nintendo."

This is what I was thinking. The whole phrase is in the context of what else besides W101, so it rules it out. If anything, they probably have a team doing assets and early concepts while they finished Bayo2.

That is the quote I'm curious about. I assumed it was in reference to W101.

I'm pretty sure it is. We know that the two were worked on simultaneously, so saying it doesn't apply because of his phrasing is kinda silly. Unless you want to claim that they were working on 3 games for nintendo at the same time.

The fact that Nintendo seems to have a department dedicated with 3rd party collaborations on "un-Nintendo"-like games makes me excited. I'm guessing this guy is also involved wih the Devil's Third collaboration as well

And the comments section read like GAF after the Bayo 2 reveal...and a number of the Bayo 2 threads till it's release in Japan...

people will say Nintendo has the worst 3rd Party relationships they would be right it seems.

This department seems to focus on finding un-Nintendo projects that are Exclusive to a Nintendo platform so I would not call them a 3rd Party collar department

Nintendo needs a Department for Port-Begging and they don't even have to force parity lol just get good ports

Sakurai really should've put Bayo in Smash. It would've given Bayo massive exposure and done wonders for the game's sales. I think it would've done for Bayo what Melee did for Fire Emblem.

With DLC, might not be too late. Do it, Sakurai.
agreed in full. Can't believe that this isn't already a thing

So glad Nintendo gave PG all the freedom while creating Bayonetta 2 and looks like it was worth it because the impressions and reviews (dat 10 from EDGE) we've seen so far are very, VERY exciting. I've never played the original Bayo so this is going to be quite the experience to me :D 2 more weeeeeeeks!!

This guys enthusiasm for Platinum was quite infectious! Full of praise. I can definitely see why the two companies respect and like each other.

he is more of a business guy than a game producer so I wonder if he is talking about future plans with Platinum and Bayonetta

because there is nothing he should not be able to talk about with these games that have not been shown months ago

Oh look the producer is describing the department at Nintendo that i was talking about in the other thread and discusses his objectives and how pleased everyone is, as I was saying. Whose shocked, I'm not la de da haha

Nah. Nintendo hates third parties. Duh.

Thank you Nintendo and Platinum for what will surely be nothing more than pure joy and euphoria that will forever paint all other games as boring dreck for the next six months.

I feel lile he is hinting at a Platinum dev'd Star Cox

IN SPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACE

I have zero wish for Nintendo to buy up Platinum, just the Bayonetta IP. Nintendo would be good to it, and in turn that would be good for Platinum.

There's a line in the video that gave me a bit of Déjà vu where PG asked if they should change the game to fit Nintendo's audience and Nintendo said "no".
Harada said the same thing with making a more "casual" Tekken game for the system but Nintendo asked for the full version.
Don't like knowing that that's what they thought about us.

Viewtiful Joe was explicitly designed around the GameCube controller layout and launched on Nintendo first, while Okami for the Wii was close to definitive (minus the excised credit roll and some basic weapons made impractical by the motion-based primary attack). Nothing about Bayonetta is wildly out of place on a Nintendo system, and indeed I would almost say a Nintendo system is where she belongs.

Platinum has no announced PS4 games, and yet, at 1:47...

mmm.

Apparently "Razor" is PS4 profiling software.

ack! I thought I was on to something but totally forgot that was coming out on, well, anything but PC lol.

Speaking of Korra, how the hell is that not on Wii U? Family franchises are at home on Nintendo systems and Platinum is obviously very close to Wii U, so you'd think Activision would have allowed a Wii U version. :(

Why? This is almost always the case with 3rd party collaborations. Seriously, read up on any of them and you'll see the same "Nintendo gave us freedom. In fact, they encouraged us to do so and so"
