Nintendo broke my heart, how about you?

There was once this sicilian mobster loan shark named Mario that broke both my kneecaps, does that count?

He had this catch phrase, "heeeey Georgy Boy, itsa fucking meee!".

I'm kind of confused by people hating on GameCube.

Viewtiful Joe 1+2, Resident Evil remake, Ikaruga, Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, F-Zero GX, Eternal Darkness, Killer7, Metroid Prime 1+2, Pikmin 1+2, WaveRace, Resident Evil 4, Alien Hominid not good enough for you?

I own more GameCube games than Wii and N64 combined.

Nintendo actually "won my heart back" this generation. While N64 and Gamecube were nice consoles with some great games (never could go without Zelda), I had many more games on Dreamcast, PS2 and PC in these days. Now, the Wii is my main console this gen according to the amount of games. For me, personally, the way you control games with the Wiimote and Nunchuck surpasses normal controllers in comfort. Not for every game, mind you, fightinggames or something like Devil May Cry don't seem too playable with Wiimotes (...yet. e.g. No More Heroes played great, and I could see expanding the controlls for something like DMC). But I don't mind switching controllers.

Also, refer to the lists posted in this thread. No need to repeat them.

A question to the left-handed people who say Wii controls won't work for them:
I myself am a leftie and I never run into many problems. Dunno... I also know lefthanded people who have to use their computer mouses with the left hand. Never had to do that, either. I had some problems with a few DS games, though. But, where are the problems at when playing Wii?

I mean for the Gamecube.

MP 1&2
Pikmin 1&2
Wind Waker
Resident Evil
Resident Evil 0
Freedom Fighters
The Thousand-Year Door
Animal Crossing
Eternal Darkness
Tales of Symphonia
Wave Race: Blue Storm

I no longer have my games and console, so I had to rack my brain; also, I didn't include the games I played for a little and didn't like.

I miss the gamecube.

I don't care that much to be honest. The last thing I'd expect to be accused of is "Gamecube Defender". Compared to NES/SNES/N64, they're both really sad systems in my opinion.

And yes, it does seem like a pretty obvious shift that Nintendo published Eternal Darkness globally and not Xenoblade. Especially when, as you said, an English version exists.

I did not say anything, just that you were wrong in saying that there were no original first party productions like Eternal Darkness or Pikmin. You seem to admit that you were wrong with that and that's fine. Things like that happen in a discussion, and people like you in this case and people like me in other cases learn something or find out that their argumentation does not make too much sense and that you may need to revise what you're saying (in this case towards Nintendo's localisation strategy sucks).

Also, if you love games like Xenoblade, how you can you defend 2011's Nintendo when there are so many more games *like* (deep, original, core-centric) Xenoblade on other systems.

I see, you are a bit annoyed to see that you were proven wrong. I did not defend Nintendo anywhere in my conversation with you. As said above, I only showed that you need to revise your post to make sense.
And if you're really interested in my opinion, I don't care too much about games like Xenoblade, Skyward Sword or The Last Story. I'd much rather play the next Layton, another Last Window or some quirky indie title.

Didn't most of those 360/PS3 JRPG's bomb in sales in North America?

I tried the sensor bar above the TV, below the TV; I tried adjusting my distance and height, to no avail. The problem was the Wiimote doesn't see the TV, it sees the bar; so when I felt I was pointing at center screen, it was a couple of inches off, either up or down.

Erm... it sounds like you don't understand the pointer. You're supposed to have it in your lap and you just move your wrist a little. It doesn't matter that the remote isn't pointing directly at the position on the tv. If you're playing it right you're paying attention to where it is on the screen not off the screen. Like a mouse.

FFXIII did well, Tales of Vesperia did decent, everything else either bombed or had a niche publisher and unsurprisingly niche sales.

I defy you to quote me saying Nintendo software/games are bad. I will Paypal you monies.
Your right, I worded it wrong.

You said, "Pikmin 1&2 > All other first party Wii games", then, you went to follow up and say "Of those games I only played FZ:GX and I hated it."

Of Wii First Party Games, this includes...

Mario Kart Wii, Super Mario Galaxy, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Super Mario Bros Wii, Kirby Epic Yarn, Donkey Kong Country Returns, Xenoblade, Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn, Super Smash Brothers Brawl, Batallion Wars 2, Wii Sports, Sin and Punishment 2, Endless Ocean 1 and 2, Punchout, Excite Truck, Excite Bike, Last Story, Tower of Pandora.

This leaves the Wii the following first party games.

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, WarioWare: Smooth Moves, Super Paper Mario, Mario Party 8, Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree, Pokémon Battle Revolution, Mario Strikers Charged, Metroid Prime 3 and Trilogy, Donkey Kong Barrel Blast, Link's Crossbow Training, Wii Fit and Wii Fit Plus, Wario Land: The Shake Dimension, Wii Music, Animal Crossing: City Folk, Disaster: Day of Crisis, New Play Control Line, Punch-Out!!, Wii Sports Resort, PokéPark Wii: Pikachu's Adventure, Metroid: Other M, Wii Party, FlingSmash, Mario Sports Mix, Wii Play Motion.

So, which of those games did you actually play? You are trying to tell us Pikmin is better then all of them, so I would assume you would have actually played some of them.

That's what I did, but it was still in my range of vision, where as I can't really see my mouse when using the PC. Not to mention with the mouse there is no awareness of where the laser/eye is; as apposed to the Wiimote, where you are very aware of where the eye is.

Also, having actually played Xenoblade, I think the only comparable games to it are MMOs and Final Fantasy XII. It is a pretty unique game.

Super Mario Galaxy is the pinnacle of what Nintendo ever did.

I hope Skyward Sword will have the same fate.

My only thought is that great Nintendo games became rarer.

How did Xenoblade sell in North America? And what does it have to do with anyone's enjoyment?
You could also then ask Namco why they never brought Tales of Graces to NA on the Wii. Surely, Tales fans and people who enjoyed ToS2 would have liked the game, right? At the end of the day, they're a business, and JRPG sales in the West have declined overall, perhaps to a point where very few of them are viable considering the significant localization costs compared to other genres.

I played the 5 in my original post and I have would never say a game is bad if I haven't played it. My assertion that "Pikmin 1&2 > all first party Wii games" has more to do with my love of those 2 games. My point has never been the software is bad, my point is the controller makes it difficult for me to evaluate and enjoy the software.

It would be fairly unique even among MMOs. It's closest in design to Final Fantasy XI, except without all the terrible bullshit XI had going for it.

Op, welcome to 2006 :)

I really don't think so, the problem is you are looking at stuff like the NES and Super Nintendo in Retrospect, while the Wii you are looking at it while it is currently in production.

Nintendo caters to several audiences, including traditional gamers. This makes Nintendo evil.

If they cater to all gamers, why are the traditional controls for Twilight Princess (which Nintendo developed) not present in the game. If they cater to "everyone", why can't I plug a keyboard and mouse into the Wii? If it's "everyone join in", why are there so many exclusions and restrictions?

Well I don't know what to say. I found it extremely easy to adjust where I have to point for the sensor to see the remote. I can move to a different couch and continue playing without thinking about it. I also found it easy to look only at the screen and not worry that the remote, in my lap in my peripheral vision, does not match up exactly with where I'm pointing on the screen.

Zenoblade chronicles
Sin and punishment 2
Dkcr
Smg
Smg2
That's about I can think of that I really enjoy from Wii but it is enough for me. I'd rather the better 3rd party games actuallyr come out on 360 or PS3 anyway.

While I loved the DS, I hated the Wii. I saw it as a step back. I feel the same way about the 3DS. It's just not what I want from a video game system anymore. I love Nintendo games but they feel the same. I will no longer buy a console just to play Mario. Nintendo needs to get a better grip with their online system and just better games in general. The DS was great because it had games, mainly DQ remakes. Hope the 3DS has a better online game plan.

NES and SNES were awesome at the time, too.

Can't say I disagree with some of that, even if I don't agree with your other posts.

I've never played New Super Mario Bros Wii or Donkey Kong Country Returns multiplayer simply because the shoe-horned in motion controllers prevents the use of a Gamecube controller. :\

As the OP now recognizes I think he is being a bit melodramatic. But more than that I think he invests a little too much emotion into gaming. The wii has been great fun for me and I like a lot of the experiences it has offered over the year but it hasn't changed my life or anything.

the main point is that many of us had nintendo stuff in their childhood, so it makes you nostalgic looking back.

Which of course ruins your perspective of anything Nintendo is putting out now, despite the fact that Nintendo constantly meets or exceeds the quality they produced back then.

Wiiman.

Can't say they did.

The Wii has the ablitiy to play cube games, plus some of the best games got updates with better controls so I'm good with Wii.

Plus I just think Nintendo has easily out performed themselves on the Software side this gen not to mention some truly great new IP's that I feel are much better then the likes of Pikemen.

Already bored with Nintendo a long time ago. The only reason I got Gamecube was to play Resident Evil REmake and that was it. Not interested in any of their recent offerings means I have little to no interest in their console/handheld except for what 3rd party might produce for them.

I used to mostly like Nintendo, now I mostly don't. It's okay, though, cause I like lots of other games.

I would love to see them go back to their SNES glory days, though. Super Mario Galaxy 1/2, NSMBWii (despite the 2.5D), and Kirby Canvas Curse are the only Nintendo games I've been excited about this gen.

Would you argue that Metroid: Other M is better than say Super Metroid?

I don't even know why that mechanic exists. It's utterly pointless for 99.9% of the duration of the game. The only time I'm ever reminded it's there is when I'm forced to feed a star. Then it's like, oh yeah, I can aim at things.

I'd definitely prefer a modified SMG with the pointer fluff taken out, and a button assigned for spin. Not that it isn't the best game ever, regardless. But I'd enjoy even more with a controller.
There are entire mechanics designed around it. The Pull stars are pretty fun and entire levels/bosses are based around it. Also 2nd player which can be fun is based entirely around it.

No, But I'd argue Metroid Prime is.
Metroid Prime was certainly a high quality title but I wouldn't file it under 'now' , mostly because it's almost 10 years old by now.

yes I feel old too.

[stupid rant]
back in the days i was a nintendo fan-boy, Now i stopped giving a shit. Hell mario galaxy
looks like one of the most enjoyable games around but they wont release a console with
hdmi or vga support. To bad for them there are a lot of other great games for pc, xbox, ps3
or my iphone where i can spend my money on.

There are 2 many great games around now a days and a finite of time for me to make a
effort to play Nintendo games.
