Nintendo confirms no live E3 presentation this year

Not at all..merely pointing out that the suckage to quality ratio of their digital events is not really any different to their live conferences.

..but I'd also say that the one highlight of E3 2015 for Nintendo was their live Nintendo World Championships.

Be it live or recorded..Nintendo's biggest issues at E3 are usually presentation quality and holding back software announcements for later dates that should have been announced then and there.

Yeah so basically if they have a good presentation thats because they have good content to show and not because its on stage or prerecorded footage. I think they will be fine with a direct.

I don't want to give them clicks so I won't link it, but Destructoid just released an article saying Nintendo is not attending E3 because of this news.

Weird.

Destructoid don't attend e3 anyway (I've never heard of any destructoid press conferences there) so why do they care?

Forget the direct - their live at Nintendo Treehouse has been fantastic at E3. Other places have tried to copy to lesser success.

That's surprising with this E3 being the first for the new hardware.

Directs and the other stuff still do the job though. But I wanted Reggie to kick ass and take names :(

It's hard to demo CG trailers.

Not surprising really. They just debuted a new format for Directs that has an in-built stream schedule. That sort of thing is perfect for E3, and a live conference would just make that awkward. Plus, the Treehouse format has been well received as an in-depth look for enthusiasts, allowing the Direct to be relatively lean as they focus on more marketable essentials.

Good. I hate live presentation.

All major titles leak one day before and all audience look the announces with that stupid face of "I already know about that game".

It's really annoying.

A good Direct with time dedicated to show the games and do some jokes in between is a lot better.

You just keep snapping your fingers, Nintendo!

I'm happy with the Directs, so a longer one with focus on the back half of 2017 and maybe spring 2018, along with Treehouse streams, and I'll be good to go!

I honestly didn't want them to do one anyway, so this is good news to me! I'd love to see them follow the approach they've started with E3 last year and the Switch hands-on events.

Give us a Nintendo Direct that spills a ton of details about new games and release dates. Follow that up with a Treehouse Live stream for a few different days. Invest all of their "E3" money into making really cool themed booth spaces for Splatoon 2, ARMS, and Mario Odyssey ALA what they did for BoTW.

No surprise- they've just got themselves a fine new format for Directs, and I look forward to it being used for a slate of big, year-defining announcements.

These guys turned up with two games on a livestream and stole the show last year. It's fine.

I'm glad. The digital videos are way better than the snoozefest of charts that Nintendo use to do anyway.

Plus I don't want no awkward onstage "acting" like in other companies Conferences.

Last year, Nintendo won E3 with their Treehouse Livestream anyway. It was the closest I ever felt to E3.

LOL @ these responses.

This is like the equivalent of saying "well, I didn't want to go out with that hot girl anyway!".

Nintendo giving up on being a major player in the industry isn't something people should be excited about.

edit: aaaaaand last post on the page GODDAMN IT

I don't think having an E3 presser should be the tipping point of how much of a major player one is in the industry. Nintendo obviously isn't as big as Sony or MS, or even EA or Ubisoft, so doing something like this is much cheaper than having a big, lavish press event where umpteen million things can go wrong. Back in the day, E3 press conferences used to be just that - now they've become these massive multi-million dollar extravaganzas. So a company stepping back and saying they can do all of that without a live audience or celebrities or explosions is actually quite refreshing.

Plus, these events are for the press (or at least, they SHOULD be, every time I hear cheering at these events I want to shoot myself), and something is lost in translation when you're watching online. With Nintendo, everyone from gamers to press to developers gets the same experience, and the same message. Remember all the confusion about the Wii U? That's precisely what Nintendo is trying to avoid.

You know, whatever you like, I don't care you have your preferences;

But four years after Nintendo introduced the Digital Event concept, which has still the same timeslot of every Nintendo presentation and showcasing Nintendo's products AT E3, since forever and still we hear " but mainstream/consumers will have a hard time understanding if Nintendo is @ E3 so is coverage possible!!??"

It boggles the mind.

I am not a fan at all of those live pressers. So much fumbling, dead air, horrible hype men. Just show me the trailers and tell me the release dates and GTFO. I don't need to waste 2 hours to see 10 minutes of trailers.

Anyone disappointed by the lack of a live press conference didn't watch the Switch reveal. The Nindie Direct and even the direct a few weeks ago were well paced and formatted even if you didn't like all of the content.

Fine by me. Live Switch presentation was a disaster.

Bingo. That Nindie Direct was nuts.

Good. Their directs & Treehouse stuff are usually better. Their Switch live reveal was a big mess & boring as all hell, except when it came to the 2nd half & the games (which were just pre-recorded videos, basiclaly direct).

Yep. Love for those things have always baffled me. I never watch them. Just wait for the news afterward since they're so terrible.

The Directs are so much better.

The directs are better than live pressers anyway. No dead air, no waiting for translators to catch up with what people are saying, just better all around. And the treehouse extended segments are perfect for really showing off games in depth.

Besides, if you want to see people getting hyped at Nintendo's games, I'm sure there'll be 10 zillion reaction videos to whatever Nintendo does for E3 no matter what it is. Just watch those.

I'll admit there's sometimes some nice moments, the reveal of FFVII Remake and Shenmue 3 with everyone losing their collective shit at E3 2015 for Sony is something I'll never forget.

Nintendo has a so-so track record with live presentations, but their directs have been much better. Plus, this one should have a huge concentration of Switch stuff.

They will likely have a live press conference for buyers (retail, wholesale etc.) though. They usually do.

Very, very disappointing. I'm sorry but this is going 3 steps back to the Wii U era and this is not the signal they should send after the horrible Wii U. It looks they don't have enough confidence in their products and my hype for E3 is going down to zero.

After the Switch Event I was certain they would go back to live conferences, alone the intro with laser lights and the DJ destroys every direct (except 2014) There were minor mistakes like a bad translator and no audience clapping but aside from that it was perfect. Everyone makes mistakes.

The directs are boring and the content is not enough. 2013 January was okay, 2014 mediocre (robot chicken was awesome though) and 2015 and 2016 were downright bad. Even when there is not enough content, atleast we got something to laugh from the bad press conferences.

And to tell the truth, 2014 wasn't as good as everyone says. Games wise, I just remember Splatoon and Zelda being announced. Was there anything else? The funny presentation just hides the fact that there were a lackluster amount of games announcements.

Press conferences are dead and I'm crying right now. Nintendo is destroying christmas for us Nintendo fans. I can't believe people actually defend this!

Direct is good. Usually way better paced than a live presentation with a clear focus on games.

On the other side it feels small and less "eventful" compared to the big conferences of MS, Sony, Ubi, EA and there is no hilarous stuff happening. I mean the cringeworthy stuff is one reason to watch PKs, right?

They do their own thing anyway.. I've given up having any expectations of an obligatory annual E3 attendance. Plus the Directs seem to be doing fine

Whatever. You sound way too invested and overreacting. I'm glad Nintendo realizes they don't need to listen to people with your opinion especially after saying 2014 was mediocre.

They've been doing this for 4 years...get over the fake drama.

I would also like confirnation that they don't include Reggie or other sales talk guys on the Treehouse live stream. I understand that they want to use Treehouse live as promotion tool as well, but the more it is just about the games and ganeplay, the better.
