Nintendo Details 2-Day Treehouse at E3

Holy shit, they're acknowledging the existence of their current platforms? And DQ VII?

That is, somehow, a clever decision. Somehow.

Seems like they heard everyone bitching and added that second day to try and save face. I guess it's something.

Have a feeling the event actually started like this...

Lead show with Zelda, at the end of the trailer reveal "For NX", then show case the NX and it's launch games with Zelda being the main game on the floor. Wii U titles quietly relegated to a backroom and a few quick highlight clips.

Then a couple months back it was made pretty clear that NX would not be ready to be shown, and the plans changed... with everything but Zelda dropped.. then it became clear just showing Zelda at E3 wouldn't be enough, hence today's announced plans.

They're showing off games that have already been announced and, in some cases, are about to be released in as little as two weeks following E3. They're not going to make a presentation that lasts an hour where the only new information being handed out is a release date or two.
I'd say that implies a flawed, muddied and badly thought out marketing strategy, if not more sadly. Wouldn't you?

Unfortunately the exact opposite of what Nintendo needs right now after the Wii U.

This clearly shows that Zelda just isn't that good and they don't have any confidence in it carrying their show.
Hopefully Pokemon picks up the slack.

There is no way they ever thought Zelda could carry their e3 show by themselves. Something definitely happened with the NX that made them go into "grab whatever we have to fill that NX void" mode.

It means that they're not ready to talk about NX, and there's only so much you can do when a lot of the current resources are being poured into that. No one wants a repeat of what happened between E3 2005 and E3 2006 for the PS3, where talking about something that really didn't exist winds up in a severe case of backlash when results did have to produce themselves.

NoE sent out invites for their post E3 event today and according to the description they plan to show "upcoming Wii U and 3DS games" there. That was quite amusing to me, considering they only want to show one single game in playable form at the actual E3.

But then again, maybe it's a general change of heart and they'll reserve a small portion of their E3 booth for games other than Zelda after all. However unlikely that might be.

No, it implies that they had a marketing strategy that had to be scrapped because something happened with their NX plans.

Nintendo is really improvising their E3 show this year. Maybe plans change again and they will show us a quickly thrown together NX teaser after all. :P

We should feel lucky they actually read the internet and changed plans.

But The Legend of Zelda for Wii U remains the only playable game in Nintendo's booth at E3 2016?

If they changed their plans to include a second treehouse day, then mayne they'll put a few extra monitors on the floor showing trailers for upcoming games. But definitely not playable.

Just smacks of mismanagement on Nintendo's part. They only have themselves to blame for such a dire showing at this year's E3. At least they've been consistent with fucking up this generation...

Because the marketing has been on point during the Wii U's lifetime?

Is the NX situation worse than we know?

Guess we'll find out in the near future.

How are they a bad way to present games? They're just live streams of the games being played. Do Sony and MS fans not like that these days?

Speaking for myself, I don't really like "improv" showcases of games. They tend to move slow as everything gets explained, or in some cases are just terrible because the person playing doesn't know what they're doing (which is expected). I know they'll have some pre-planned demos, but honestly I'm just not going to watch anything because I don't want to sift through for the stuff I would enjoy.

I wonder how Nintendo will distribute the press kit this year. Last year all assets were launched at once, but without a digital event where all games are shown I can only assume material will be added in intervals to the press site.

In 2014 Nintendo's E3 press site was up a whole five days before the Digital Event. They changed platforms last year though, so I don't think that will happen re E3 2016. But I'll keep an eye out.

It definitely seems like Nintendo planned on revealing NX at E3 with the intent to launch in November. Something went wrong or software just isn't ready so that all go pushed back and it caused them to change plans quickly for E3.

Hopefully Pokemon picks up the slack.

Nintendo announces E32016 focused only on Zelda:
"Fuck, 3 days of just Zelda and anything else? Why did they bother coming at E3?Still curious Too see the game tho"

Nintendo announces they'll show more games beside Zelda:
"Zelda probably isn't that good and they don't have any confidence in it carrying their show."

I don't know, it sounds like it wouldn't be much better than a regular Direct if they had one.
Maybe best to go lowkey with the content at such an event.

Well at least it'd be something for me to watch, I have no interest in Treehouse unfortunately, I just want some half hour video showing everything

Metroid and Paper Mario should be sent back to the drawing board.

EDIT: I'm sure both of the games will be there. But if your Nintendo PR and you want people to get hyped for the E3, those are two games you don't mention.

or they will be there on Day 3, you know?

No, it was awful. But a new brand may give them the oportunity to change that. Sadly, we wont know what they were originally planning for this e3.

Is the NX situation worse than we know?

Isn't it obvious? Its crazy to think they got so much space just for one game. Now they are scrambling to add more games to their treehouse presentation somehow. Something happened, they had to act fast, and we got this mess, but to say this is exactly what they planned all these months.. that would be crazy even for them

Oh so it's not just Zelda. Cool. Cool cool cool.

Treehouse gets to play games other than Zelda, but as far as I know they haven't reversed the decision to make the floor demos for the press only Zelda. From my understanding Treehouse doesn't use the floor demos, they have their own space.

Everybody is blaming PR, but I have to believe this is a step away from their original plans.
