Nintendo Direct 1/14/15 (6AM PST / 9AM EST)

Here is how you will never be let down by a Nintendo Direct:

Expect the Expected (i.e all the stuff we already know about) and thats it.

That way any actual surprise is legit surprising and cool.

Far too many people go into a direct expecting the moon and stars and shit. And then get mad when its not met.

Watch them find a way to devote even more time to something Pikmin related. :P

They explicitly said they intended to make more Pikmin games at some point while doing the cgi shorts, right? I didn't imagine that?

I don't really expect one any time soon. Rather, I expect a port or remaster of one as soon as they release a handheld with a screen whose resolution is high enough to not render the game unplayable.

Since I am wide awake and lying in bed playing my 3DS, I began wondering how likely it is we would see some third party announcements even though the main focus is on Spring releases. I, for one, would be thrilled to hear of an official Yōkai Watch and Bravely asecond localization

Pikmin 4 announcement incoming.

HYPE
Lol, I was expecting another push for the Pikmin 3 demo to be honest or talk about how well received the Pikmin shorts were.

Ehh...I'm just being cynical, I wouldn't be suprised though if they find a way to talk about Pikmin 3 or something related.

Personal guesses on Smash related content:
Extremely likely: Patch details (Sharing/Tourney/Miiverse Stage/3DS Amiibo)
Likely: Mewtwo info (Probably a developer walkthrough, not a trailer)
Possible: Pokemon Stadium 1 and/or Pokefloats is a free stage with Mewtwo
I don't know why I think it's possible, but I do: Roy announced
Very unlikely: DLC outside of the above announced

But he's already in th--er, never mind. Realistically speaking, though, I think they would prioritize reviving Wolf and/or Lucas before FE-Roy. I could see the implementation of alternate costumes as DLC, a la Alph or the Koopalings. I'm sure they have more DLC in the works that they just haven't revealed yet, but I don't know if they're going to announce it any time soon.

surely they will reveal n64 and gamecube VC content? i mean the WiiU is in its twillight and we haven't yet got the promised features like TVii

I am pretty sure Nintendo has abandoned TVii. It's all but deprecated.

I sure do hope we get some VC announcements. At least the promised DS VC on WiiU. Although GC VC content would be superb.

I donno. I'd like Lucas and Wolf more, but Roy requires so much less work that I could see him coming sooner. There isn't a single cut character I wouldn't mind coming back, though, so I'd be happy with just about any character or stage announcements.

Woooo today's the day. It's impossible to keep your expectations to a minimum with threads like this.

Out of curiosity, does anybody know if at any time in the past the contents of a Direct have in fact ever been leaked before the actual thing? I don't know what amazes me more, how good Ninty are at keeping secrets, or the effort people go to online to make stuff up with "official leaked documents".

By the way, my next door neighbour who is sleeping with someone at Nintendo told me we're DEFINITELY getting Okami 2, Billy Hatcher 2 and Space Station Silicon Valley 2, all on Wii U. 🎉

Wasn't it last January in a Direct that they said "We can officially confirm that N64 and DS Virtual Console are coming... eventually!"

The first N64 and DS VC releases would be nice, Nintendo.

How much do you think they'll greedily nickle and dime users to upgrade the emulator they play their roms on if they announce N64 VC? I'm still not buying a single VC game because of them doing that shit with the NES/SNES.

I already have a DS game on my Wii U? N64 would be nice though I guess. Gamecube would be even better!

Predictions
- New 3DS release dates and price
- Next wave of Amiibo, maybe something to placate those whose favourite figures sold out
- More Majora's Mask footage and details
- Codename STEAM trailer
- Mario Maker release date, new trailer (fingers crossed for Yoshi and Star Coins)
- Starfox U
- Splatoon trailer
- X trailer, maybe release date
- SMT x FE reveal
- Small Zelda update, maybe teaser trailer

(Not expecting any new game announcements)

Probably $10 for N64 and $15-20 for DS

Edit: oh, you said upgrade..
Probably somewhere between $3-5

It's a buck for NES (originally 5 to purchase) and 1.50 for SNES (originally 8 to purchase) right? If they ever actually release the n64 ones I'm expecting EDIT: well, hoping, for 2 or 2.50. Doesn't seem too out-of-line.

At this point, though, I'm wondering if they are postponing N64 games for other reasons. Perhaps they don't want any N64 VC games around to compete with their own remakes, like Majora's Mask 3d, or want to wait as long as possible to ensure any emulator is ready to become a persistent or cross-platform thing next generation.

It's not really greed considering manpower goes into it. It's not as simple as copy/paste.

That was a free test release, what we are waiting is the full-fledged library. I really want to play Mario Kart DS on the home console... for some strange reason.

Well then they should have upped the price of the system and spent more money getting that manpower. Playing games is the one thing I expect a game system to do. I don't expect to be charged to play games I already bought on the system I already bought. I don't get charged to play PS1 games I bought for my PS3 on my Vita, I don't expect to get charged for NES games I bought for my Wii on my Wii U. In addition, its irritating knowing that if they designed the gamepad a little better and allowed it to be used as a classic controller while in Wii mode, I wouldn't have a reason to update. But because of a complete lack of foresight designing the Wii U, they expect me to pay an extra dollar just to play the same game I already bought from them.

Prediction:

A focus on Spring Games, from their Spring Schedule for Wii U and 3DS:

- N3DS details and launch + Amiibo updates + possible system updates
- Kirby and the Rainbow Curse trailer and Amiibo info (for NA/JP at least)
- MM3D: The leaked release date and new changes such as save system/notebook (3DS)
- Codename S.T.E.A.M (3DS) new trailer
- Monster Hunter 4 (3DS)
- Yoshi's Woolly World new trailer or/and announcement of delay (Wii U)
- X (JP at least stream as it is targeted for Spring there) (Wii U)
- Indie Games reel

Other titles in Q1/Q2 that could possibly be shown

- Project Titles ( Giant Robot is listed Q1/Q2 2015) as a new package/branding
- Smash U update details (Wii U/3DS)
- Mario Party 10
- Splatoon
- Mario Maker
- Xenoblade Chronicles N3DS
- Art Academy
- Fossil Fighters: Frontier
- Mario vs Donkey Kong Wii U

Surprise (Only 1):

- A remaster or port (for Wii U or N3DS)
- Star Fox Wii U
- Zelda Wii U details (the Lobby livestream on Gamespot makes me think this)

What they will leave for E3:

- Zelda U
- SMTx FE (lol)
- Next Level Games Project Wii U
- Most of Star Fox U
- Metroid ( more likely 2D)
- Animal Crossing
- Remasters/ports
- X
- Pokken/new Pokemon related games
- Other Project Wii U Games
- Devils Third
- Retro game teased if they indeed have a smaller separate team
- EAD Group 5 game
- SPD Group 1 game (Tomadchi Life finshed development in 2013 , localisation on 2014)

How long is this direct?

Pokkén gonna be announced at E3. It's pretty much earlier right now to do so.

I do believe it won't arrive at least until 2016.

I understand your frustration, but it's not "the same game", especially if you are European (but I suppose you're not) - proper 60 Hz and the lack of half-assed PAL "optimisation" from 80's-90's, as well as savestates, multitasking etc. are something worth paying a dime for.

A Lost Vikings style spinoff featuring Pikmin would be awesome!

In this case the Exptected is actually enough for me. I just want more information on MM 3D and its release date here in Europe. That's all, everything else is bonus.

Would he, though? Part of the problem with Mewtwo is that his (Melee) data was too old to port directly, whereas Brawl data is more recent and presumably easier to work into the new engine, so I feel like Lucas and Wolf have a better chance than Roy at this point. I could be completely wrong, of course, and I'm with you: I'd be totally happy with any and all new characters or stages! Because of her popularity, I could see a Shizue/Isabelle alt. costume for Villager. Whatever info we get, I have a feeling it will come pretty early on in the Direct.

Serious Predictions:

N3DS trailer with features
N3DS date/price/availability details
Smash 3DS amiibo patch detailed
N3DS ambassador available at Nintendo World Store right after the Direct (US only)
Xenoblade 3D trailer, dates (available WW from February)
Puzzle&Dragon x Mario trailer, date (JP only) / MH4U trailer, date (US/PAL only)
Majora's Mask 3D trailer, date
HW DLC packs details and dates
Kirby trailer, dates confirmed for US/JP, still second half for PAL
Yoshi trailer, date with Q2 release WW
Capitan Toad amiibo features details + Third wave of amiibo discussed
Code name Steam trailer, dates
Mario Maker trailer, date for April
Some JP only games trailer, footages, dates for 3DS, including Rodea [Wii U also] (JP Direct only) / Some 3DS Localization confirmed for the West, like Little Battlers/FF Explorer trailers, dates (US/PAL only)
Xenoblade X trailer with date set for JP, generic 2015 date for US/PAL

*No Splatoon because they will do a dedicated Direct in March to announce its May release

Worldwide presentations are not something happening very often.
Yes, the last Direct was worldwide, as well as Smash Bros 50 Fact one, but, aside from these, the last time we haad an international non-E3 presentation was October 2013.

Worldwide Directs have been absent in 2014 due to Iwata having to take a break due to his health, and they didn't really want to do too many without him.

You are mistaken though, worldwide is typically US/Europe/Japan, and November's was that, as was February 2014

I donno. I'd kinda expect them to just work off of Marth's Smash 4 animations instead of porting Roy's Melee ones, should they ever put Roy in the game.

I also kinda wonder if they've at all contemplated asking the Project M team to use Mewtwo's animation assets. I doubt they have or ever will, but I wonder if it's even crossed their mind as a way to save time and money.
