Nintendo Direct WiiU/3DS @ 8/7 - NA: 7am PT, EU: 4pm CEST

Interesting to note that the NA Direct will be about title launching this year while the EU one :
Nintendo Direct is coming soon! Make sure you tune in for this presentation by Nintendo Global President Satoru Iwata and Nintendo of Europe President Satoru Shibata, and get the latest on upcoming titles for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS.

There's got to be something about Streetpass Relay Points, since those were silently rolled out with the latest firmware update.
This morning my 3DS told me that Nintendo Zones now work as Relay Points as well. And I'm mildly excited about it.

I'm pretty sure they talked about it in the US Nintendo Direct Mini, at least.

You mean Pokemon Stadium 5, surely?

THIS IS LIKE DEJA VU OR SOMETHING

Here are the differences between Pokemon Stadium, and Pokemon Battle Revolution.

1. Storing Pokemon.

In Pokemon Stadium you can transfer your Pokemon with a box system which is really convenient.

In Pokemon Battle Revolution you must clone your Pokemon to the game, meaning the feature of being able to store Pokemon is now gone.

2. Battling

In Pokemon Stadium you can battle strictly off the cartridge, you can play VS off the cartridge(s), and you may play co-op battle.

Remember that thing about cloning from before? Well, since you may only clone once game per save file, the only way to battle each other is by another person making another save file (going through that really long multiple sequences of the person waving at the cards explaining everything) cloning their save, and transferring to the wiimote.

You may use the DS, but you may not use the DS to play against the CPU or playing Wi-Fi battles, keeping in mind that the technology is already there.

3. Rentals

In Pokemon Stadium you have a huge list of Rental Pokemon to choose from if you do not own a Pokemon game, while in Battle Revolution you get either Team A or Team B (which by the way have the worst move sets you could imagine.)

4. Modes

In Pokemon Stadium you have several modes to choose from. Minigames, Gym Leader Castle to obtain Pokemon, Gameboy Tower, Free Battle, and the usual Stadium setup.

Battle Revolution is placed at an amusement park, and it doesn't have minigames.

Issues with the game

Stadium has interesting cups, but Battle Revolution twists and alters things as if you're playing a Shadow Game from Yu-Gi-Oh!. Things like the super random Wheel which the CPU will rob you of your only decent Pokemon is terrible.

The lack of a storage system is a huge thing to pass up on a Stadium styled game, and there really is no excuse not to have it. Cloning one game per save file is extremely inconvenient. It's made more aware when they sold Pokemon Ranch later on.

The NPC with the dialogue keeps going on and on, you wonder when it'll stop. They also make the messages where you can't speed them up, you just have to sit there and watch.

The DS Pokemon games keep track of your wins and losses, this game does not, and it also features it's own friendcode system.

Why is this game still reusing Pokemon Stadium models? But I will say the graphics are nice.

As I mentioned before, the game takes place at a huge amusement park, and when you first start the game it zooms in on it as if you're about to engage in the excitement. I honestly cannot make sense of it, especially when it's a Pokemon Stadium styled game.

It's barebones Pokemon Stadium with lousy designs, and only the character creator, limited Wi-Fi battling, and graphics give it any real redeeming value in my opinion.

THAT GAME IS NOT STADIUM

Interesting to note that the NA Direct will be about title launching this year while the EU one :

Both will have focus on titles launching this year, I'm sure. Just like both will have at least some portion dedicated to further in the future. Just because Nintendo said that the Direct will
share new details on previously announced games for
Wii U and Nintendo 3DS launching this year
, doesn't necessarily mean that that's going to be the only content of the Direct.

I'm sorry you don't feel that way. Missing or altered features do not change what it effectively is though.

It's not called Stadium 3. Therefore it's NOT Stadium 3.

Might as well call Kirby's Adventure Kirby Dreamland 2 with that logic. (Not saying Kirby Adventure removed anything, but you get what I mean)

You are Error.

I just don't find a game that's reusing an overworld that everyone and their mother has explored all that exciting. Zelda has always been about trying new things, not rehasing old things.

I love people from the future giving early reviews

Sequel to the most popular 2D Zelda of all time looks awful, you're funny.

Subjective as to whether or not it's the best though.

Actually, the issue here is you're thinking Stadium just means 3D battling and utilizing the games Pokemon on a stage, and as demonstrated, Stadium had a variety of things to set it apart from just battling.

Minigames were a very big part of the fun for that game, as were all of those other features. Battle Revolution is simply just 3D battles and character customization, it is it's own thing.

Funny thing is that even with safe stuff like more footage of games releasing this year and release dates I'm still moderately excited. Throw in details about the September update and you can consider me satisfied.

Evidently it surprised a lot of people if they were expecting a "AAA game" (whatever that means) or a new IP.

Surprising but not in the good way.

What about this art style is cheap to produce? Where are you getting the figures of 2D platformers just being inherently cheaper? Even if you're looking from a fixed camera angle, it still takes just as much art to make a game on a 2D plane with 3D assets.

In most cases 3D games do cost more, simply due to having to work more hours to create the assets. Now I am aware there are 2D games with big budgets but thats usually due to animation no? Please do correct me if I am wrong though as it would be interesting to know.

I guarantee you the budget for Pokemon X/Y are smaller than whatever Battlefield/AssCreed 4/Watch Dogs/Destiny/Titanfall, and its going to probably outsell them all.

Not sure what this has to do with anything I was saying but I'll bite. How much are you expecting Pokemon to sell? 15 million? 20 million? Asscreed 3 did 12 million in 4 months while B&W did 11.5 million in 8 months. BF3 did 15 million in 8 months. Now I'm not saying it won't outsell them but its closer than you think.

Well this is the game Retro spent last 3 years working on. That's already 3 * 100 * whatever the average Retro employee makes yearly.

What's wrong with how it looks? I never understood this complaint personally. It's still running on Wii U at 60FPS. 2D platformer is easy to make but is it easy to make a good 2D platformer? I'd have to guess the answer is no.

Doesn't really look that great. Didn't say the game was not going to play great. Just said it didn't look that great.

How many people work at Retro nowadays? If its a 100 then this game may be quite expensive indeed.

Retro Studios is like 100~150 people deep. Game is gonna be in development for 3 years prior to release. That's looks pretty expensive to me. What style of game it is doesn't necessarily matter. This isn't a traditional platformer with lots of asset repetition. They've clearly put a lot of work into the assets in this game. You just fly by most of it.

If what you say is true then I agree that this may have quite the expensive budget.

And there wasn't any surprise this time because for once they weren't secretive, except for DK. So, when do they win?
People always expect shit with no basis and complain when their dream project doesn't exist.

Thats pretty much every hype thread in history but some of is based in reality. When their "dream project does exist" and it is announced boy does it feel good. See KH3, ME2, Battlefront etc.

Pokémon Colosseum is essentially part of the Stadium series, as is Battle Revolution

These games are 3D Battle Simulators and that's the idea behind them

Pokémon Stadium was the first. It lacked most of the Pokémon
Pokémon Stadium 2, known to us as Pokémon Stadium, then added the rest of the 151 Pokémon and added features such as Gym Leader Castle, Mini-games etc.
Pokémon Stadium GS, known to us as Pokémon Stadium 2, added GS features but didn't build too much further
Pokémon Colosseum went further. It had numerous Colosseum options (Colosseums being seen as bigger than Stadiums), but also added a narrative
Pokémon XD was a sequel to Colosseum, but with a larger focus on the narrative.
Pokémon Battle Revolution scrapped the narrative and focused on Colosseums and the varying battle styles within them.

While they may not share a name, they are a part of a series. If a new one were to come out, it'd be the sixth iteration.

Now yall got me wanting stadium 3.
