Nintendo Downloads - September 2014

Wait, wasn't SF2010 supposed to release on Virtual Console yesterday? Did it actually happen?
I checked a few times & nope, wasn't added. I think it was a typo, especially since there wasn't anything from Capcom's site on the game coming yesterday (they usually make a blog the day of a game's release or give some kind of notice in advance).

Maybe we'll get updates on their other VC titles soon. We know of X4 hitting PSN today & X5 next week, would be nice to hear more of the S/NES titles.

Maybe they forgot to type the other "1" since September 11 is next Thursday.

Curve wants some (deserved!) attention, too!

Yeah, I figured that might be the case. We'll probably see both SF2010 and NA on Thursday.

For 2014 Capcom still has Mighty Final Fight, Gargoyle's Quest II, Demon's Crest, BOF1, MM7 and MMZero to go. I wish more publishers (Nintendo, Konami and Bandai Namco specifically) would do similar announcements so we at least had some clue what was in the pipeline. And someone needs to wake up Square Enix.

Good luck! and pleeease, update us PAL poor guys
Currently waiting on NoE to officially make me an NoE publisher. Process takes a while and NoE is kinda slow for some reason... Apparently took Blok Drop U dev 2 months to get approved. So haven't really done anything (other then be signed up for PEGI) since can't do anything anyways. Do need to get started on translations though.

How are the sales going now? Are the game sales relatively stable (yet declining) even going further away from launch/sale week?

They are pretty constant every day now, though very low. Sales was very very nice and gave a great new number of players. I'll likely do a sale every few months or so to help increase numbers.

Since the patch has been live for a week now, people really love the added content and improved game.

When someone asks Square Enix to support Wii U or 3DS VC:

When someone reminds Square Enix that they could put out at least the games they put out on the Japanese eShops so far:

When someone reminds Square Enix that they also own Enix games and we'd like to play games from Quintet on VC!

This post makes me both laugh and cry.

I don't think it's likely it was a loophole Yacht Club used to reveal the Shovel Knight sales with the pie chart, because then everyone could do it. Someone in the previous thread or in the shovel knight sales thread said that there are different NDAs in use, and I think it's very possible that Nintendo gave them the permission to release the numbers as they compared very favorably.

Won't be too long until ZaciSa's Last Stand hits it's first big milestone (I estimate about a month)
5k? 10k? Not only one thousand I hope? It did launch with a bunch of other games though so dunno, maybe that's possible though would be kinda sad.
(I know you can't answer, just speculating here.)

While the gag order clause in digital NDAs might have helped mask poor sales on WiiWare and maybe DSiWare, it's really doing Nintendo no favors with the eShop. Virtually every account from indies on their 3DS and Wii U sales has been overwhelingly positive but without hard numbers to back that up it generally falls on deaf ears. From what I've been told Shovel Knight's ratios aren't even a unique case so hopefully the amount of attention releasing it's sales has brought sends Nintendo a message and has them lighten up the restrictions.

Just to weigh in on the 50hz/60hz thing..

50hz games on Wii U are absolutely the worst possible way to play these games. They were "okay" on real hardware back in the day, but these versions are not even that good. This is because the Wii U continues to output a picture at 60hz while running a 50hz game. This leads to every 5th frame being repeated which brings with it a very noticeable judder, especially on games where the entire screen scrolls such as Super Metroid.

Then, on top of that, the GamePad's display has a 1 frame delay with Super Nintendo (and NES) VC games. Really not ideal.

I have yet to notice this very noticable judder. What I did notice however is the stupid sound bug they snuck into the Super Metroid VC release.

I thought the conclusion was it affected NES games as well (as if NES games needed more reasons to hate them than the graphics filter). It should be noted that if you avoid using the GamePad it isn't a problem (also for people who won't read the thread, the 1 frame is on top of the 1 frame it normally takes).

Back to 50Hz I think there was a rumor going about that if you hit a button on the duplicated frame the input was dropped completely (rather then being executed on the next frame...or 3 or whatever).

Edit: It seems Rising Star games are having some stuff go on sale between 11th-24th (24th is a Wednesday...odd end date). So if you were going to buy any of those wait a bit. IIRC the published Bit.Trip Saga here in Europe. I'd expect Virtue's Last Reward to go on sale again.

Obviously can't say, but will say sales are pretty low. Even lower then my low expectations that I had before launch. I'm still pretty much a noob indie, so there isn't much exposure for my game at moment. Noone really knows about it or that it's even there.

Now the amount of sales when it was on the 2 week sale were pretty good. The total unit downloads were 150% of the that of the 6 weeks (from launch to sale) before it.

I view this as a hobby currently, so while sales are very low, I am happy about them. I have a few games planned for the Wii U currently. Those that have downloaded and played my game have have liked it, esp after recent patch. So I am happy about that! :)
(working on the 2nd patch now that will add even more improvements, new maps, new bot types, etc)

So have we been tipped off on what is gonna be the VC release this week for NA?

I know it won't be Zero Mission no matter how hard I want it.

Word? Makes me think I should take MMX2 & MMX3 off my eShop wishlist... were they any good?

All SNES MMX games are great. 3 is the hardest of them all and also the one with the most "variety" because it has some light customization aspects and lots of unlockables for a Mega Man game.
My favorite
.

Out of curiosity, after reading the posts about the Chubbins guys, I was wondering whether you had already paid for the dev kit or something. It seems to me that they had a loaner and couldn't afford to keep it. Obviously no need to respond if you're not allowed to talk about that.

I'm not so sure about that. There are certainly a lot of good examples, but then there are a lot more games that just don't get much publicity if almost any, and almost all of them most likely sell very low numbers (which is understandable obviously). I have a feeling that people would concentrate on those a lot more than on those that do sell well, even if the low sales were kind of obvious because of no marketing and publicity.

I have a loaner as well. Paying it off this week actually. Will likely get a 2nd dev kit in a month or so. Got a couple of ideas for online multiplayer games, including some smaller board games I'd love to add to eShop.

The original X was a masterpiece in every facet of its design, but X2 and X3 feel like they're just going through the motions. They're still decent fun, but ultimately completely forgettable. X4 recaptured a lot of what made X so great, but it wasn't on a Nintendo system so it'll never appear on the Virtual Console, unfortunately.

I mean maybe it's a case of good news only bubbling to the surface but the laundry list of indies who've indicated positive eShop sales (in some cases better than Steam, iOS, Android, PSN and XBL) includes Wayforward, Yacht Club Games, Shin'en, Nicalis, Vblank Entertainment, Two Tribes, Black Forrest Games, Genius Sonority, Scipcysoft, Poisoft, Image & Form, Circle Entertainment, EnjoyUp, Tomorrow Corporation, NeoGAF's own bertil and others. It's surprisingly more prevalent on Wii U than 3DS too.

I'm sure some games have tanked on the eShop but there's definitely a degree of momentum here that's going entirely unreported here. We even had an established indie dev in the Shovel Knight sales thread expressing surprise at the sales and reconsidering his support on Wii U. And he attributed that entirely to the lack of transparency regarding sales, that's really the sort of thing Nintendo should be combating. The prevailing wisdom already is that the digital market on Nintendo systems is woeful, hard data won't do any real degree of harm here.

Most likely just Street Fighter 2010 (NES) and Nobunga's Ambition (SNES). They're good games but I'm not personally interested in either.

Saturn Virtual Console for NintendOS. Believe.

I got my Club Nintendo account back. All is right in the world :)
Yay! What about your coins/games?

Yes they are returned too.

Welcome back.
You should buy Donkey Kong Jr. Math in celebration :þ

You know, I think I just might :D

I honestly wouldn't say X4 was that amazing either, but it was fun nonetheless. Nothing really compares to the original X imo.

which version of x3 did you play? The PSX/Saturn one has a god awful soundtrack while the SNES one is pretty good.

So have they ever gave an official reason for never putting N64 games on the Wii U VC? This is a total bummer. Are they just not wasting their time and money, given the Wii U's lousy sales?

We have no idea, unfortunately. They were announced in I believe Jan. 2013 and never materialized. Then again, GBA games were announced at the same time and only materialized earlier this year. OTOH, there was a time I thought we might get GCN games via VC....
