After Sony and Microsoft flubbed their conferences, it gave Nintendo an excellent opportunity. Nintendo was coming in hot of the launch of a hot console. All that momentum came to a screeching halt with this conference. With the lack of announcements, the Switch looks like it is a dying console. When the spotlight shone on Nintendo, it showed that the company was just scribbling down ideas right before the show.

Nintendo failed to answer so many questions. What the heck is Retro doing? Where are the Indies? Where's the virtual console? How does chat work? What the heck are their development teams doing? Making the same old Yoshi and Kirby games that we have played a million times.

While the graphics looked okay, Mario Odyssey looks like it could be fun. After Mario Odyssey, it is clear that Nintendo doesn't have anything ready for 2018.

After realizing that they didn't have much to show, Nintendo announced a Pokemon and Metroid game that won't see the light for several years. If they had to reach that far into their deep bag of tricks, it means that we aren't going to be seeing a whole lot of software in 2018.

Microsoft had a very bad conference. Sony had a bad conference, but somehow Nintendo was just as bad. Those hoping it would Switch things up were probably disappointed.

You do realise Nintendo has separate indie showcases fairly often?

I completely disagree. How the hell does the Switch look like it's dying? There were definitely unanswered questions, but they had some really cool announcements for both the near and distant future, and their lineup is strong through the end of the year. There's no way it was the worst conference.

I'm rewatching the Spotlight and have to say, all the games look a million times better. Their live feed was like looking at a very low-res games. Everything now looks crisp and clean, I suggest watching it again.

Considering Nintendo has several directs a year announcing new stuff, infact they had 2 in the last month, its not a concern at all. Calling it a dead console is blind hyperbole.

The conference was spot on all the games coming out look amazing. The only thing that was disappointing was the lack of any big 3rd party announcement. Fifa 18 and Rocket League are nice but I wanted a few more multi-platform games to make the cross over to the switch.

Marvel vs Capcom would be awesome since I don't have PS+ anymore

Man 2017 is stacked!

Yeah shame about no Pikmin, no 2D Mario, no Retro and so on but they are coming eventually so yeah. What matters is the actual release lineup for Switch, not the number of new announcements they make at E3. The library is in a really good shape if you ask me, Rocket League was a big get

I mean sure the A-tier are all online competitive or open world exploration games, but that is to be expected nowadays. I'm getting that rabbids game as well, what a positive surprise that was!

Before the show I said this:

Seeing as we know most of what's coming I strongly feel like whatever they show from Retro will determine how people react to the whole thing.

-Retro no-show: Where were the surprises? Where was retro? What has Nintendo been doing?
-Retro making DKCR 3 or a party game or a remaster: Disappointing show, we already knew about almost everything, Retro are being wasted!
-Retro new IP: Great show, Retro redeemed, Mario looks great, life is wonderful.
-Retro making Metroid: Aaaaaaaaaaahhhh nintendo won e3 aaaaaaahhhhhhhhh

Well, Retro no-showed, and I give you this...

Nailed it.

I don't blame you, I don't agree but it's your opinion and fair enough.

Non-stop MEGATONS from Nintendo today. Thank goodness, this was the most underwhelming E3 in a long time for me. That is, until today.

Nintendo nailed it for me today. I think overall this E3 had been lacking some surprises (perhaps with the exception of Ubisoft's conference), so it was a welcome sight to have some distant games announced. It was a concise showcase and gauging some feedback around social media, I think it was very successful in accomplishing its goal of keeping people excited about the Switch. Not only is 2017 stacked, but it helps to build a roadmap for 2018 with some big games in the pipeline. The presentation wasn't perfect by any means, but it really brought excitement, and that's a key component for me.

Got super hyped over Metroid Prime 4, but kinda disappointed we didn't get anything like Wave Race, ExciteBike, F-Zero, or Kid Icarus Uprising HD, or some of the other IPs that Nintendo doesn't show as much love to as Mario, Kirby, Yoshi, etc.

I disagree, but you are entitled to have an opinion.

I thought all 3 have pretty above average e3's. I may give the nod to Microsoft, from a pure games perspective, and I do not even own an Xbox. Nintendo was right behind them, and Sony was the worst. But they were all neck and neck with each other. No clear crazy run away winner this year, and for the console warriors, it must be a disappointment.

I'm sure the analysis machine will come out and these people will find an E3 scapegoat. It is only a matter of time. Pertaining to this forum in particular, who is GAF going to make memes about for the next year (to poke fun at). Gotta find that last place/loser big three this year!

Like I said, they all delivered this year in their own ways. I give the small edge to Microsoft.

I've seen a couple interviews with Reggie but I haven't seen any mention of the Virtual Console. Does anyone know if he's been asked about it yet? Even if he's dodged the question.

Only thing missing was a indie reel. They have a bunch of indie games in the pipeline and I'd like to know which ones are releasing the soonest.

This particular issue is and has been annoying as fuck on the Switch. There is like little to no heads up on what downloadables are coming when.

Like I just randomly found Mighty Gunvolt Burst was this week cause a date just appeared on Nintendo's site like a couple days ago.

Idk how you are supposed to build some momentum for eShop releases without some fanfare and some release dates.

Those Yoshi and Kirby games are pretty damn consistent sellers, that's why they keep making them. Kirby is basically a lock to sell 1.5-2 million.

There's a reason we haven't seen what Retro is doing, and it's (extremely hot insider take):
they're not ready to show it yet.

The worst is strong, but I don't think any of the big 3 blew the doors off of anyone.

What Nintendo showed was fine, but I did wonder if the presentation wouldn't have been better with them showing some downloadables to help bolster the showing for 2017. Show us some stuff we know is coming this year on the eShop vs just throwing up a MP4 logo.

Like show off SteamWorld Dig 2, Wargroove, or Stardew Valley for the Switch to help flesh out the presentation and show off your eShop lineup.

Look. I loved Nintendo's conference, and have like 80% of those games on preorder. But is Smash 4 Switch still a possibility? It's the one announcement I was expecting, and even though they showed some goodies I wasn't expecting, I am slightly saddened by a lack of smash.

Aside from that? Best conference of E3. MS and Sony had me feeling so jaded, but Nintendo made me smile the whole time.

Without even so much as a screenshot it really does come off as desperate to announce Metroid at this point. That just tells me it isn't coming out even remotely soon. I REALLY wanted to see some bolstered 3rd party support and big announcements in that area. I feel pretty let down right now. I guess I should know better at this point but I always hope.

The problem with Nintendo is if you are not into a particular game Nintendo themselves are launching then there aren't many options left besides maybe some low budget indie games. I was hoping the Switch would mark a big turnaround for the company. I'm starting to think this will not be the case. Hopefully I'm wrong because I love my Switch and I want it to be a mega success. You need those third parties though to fill in the blanks or the best we get is a companion console.

I'm actually kinda relieved we didn't see a CG trailer for Metroid Prime 4, prefer simply knowing it's in development than getting super excited over a CG trailer for something that we may not see in a real way for a year or two and will potentially look drastically different once we do see it, it happened with Zelda, KH3, FFXV, and starting to with FF7R and it's really annoying.
