WII Link's Crossbow Training (packaged with Wii Zapper) 5.780.000
Where are these numbers from? Just curious.

I've also taken steps to prevent my hype from crushing me this year. I expect 3d Mario, bayonetta, smash, retro's game, x, etc. to look amazing and blow me away but outside of the stuff we know is coming I have no expectations whatsoever for big huge 3rd party games or partnerships being announced.

Edit: I think people are forgetting about about NST having something. THey've been on a hiring spree and hopefully aren't making Mario vs DK Wii U

Horrible physics puzzles with generic, though high-quality graphics?
Generic all comes from the subject. Metroid does not suffer from such weaknesses.

As re horrible physics puzzles - that's not a requirement in a metroid game.

Skyward Sword didn't too bad, but it certainly was a failure if their attempt was to expand the series which I'm sure it was considering many of their series reached highs on Wii

Has this been posted yet? Could mean that they are working on a Wii U game.

Winter pls.

I think they did their own engine for the Wii prototype.

and now they're reviving it on Wii U.

also why that person doesn't specify 'unreleased' next to 'Winter'.

i believe

n-space pls.

And just for fun:

Code:
N64 Super Mario 64 11.910.000
GCN Super Mario Sunshine 5.810.000
WII	Super Mario Galaxy 11.720.000
WII	Super Mario Galaxy 2 7.220.000

NDS	Super Mario 64 DS 10.830.000
3DS	Super Mario 3D Land 8.290.000

holy shit. i had no idea twilight princess surpassed ocarina of time. well-deserved. i guess the gamecube version is good for something.

n-Space made Skylanders: Giants. Vicarious Visions ported it to the Wii U, but it wouldn't be unusual for n-Space to help bring that engine over too.

And just for fun:

Code:
N64 Super Mario 64 11.910.000
GCN Super Mario Sunshine 5.810.000
WII	Super Mario Galaxy 11.720.000
WII	Super Mario Galaxy 2 7.220.000

NDS	Super Mario 64 DS 10.830.000
3DS	Super Mario 3D Land 8.290.000

Wow, didn't know Mario Galaxy was so close to beating Mario 64

I still say Retro is working on something completely outside of Nintendo's wheelhouse.

A WRPG taking an old franchise and turning it into something new, or an open world action game. Some of the people hired in the last couple of years have histories focused on animation and large world design.

This is why I think Mach Rider or F-Zero open world action.

Hopefully, we will know in the next few days.

edit: Also fuck yeah!

Just changed my thermal compound and dropped comp temp by 20 Celsius on average.

Given how weak my comp is though it still points to needing a new heatsink.

considering the following art staff they hired recently and their portfolios:

http://www.vertexsnapper.com/index.html

http://beastofoblivion.deviantart.com

http://www.mobygames.com/developer/sheet/view/developerId,55471

quite a few different games would be possible...I just hope we get to see it.

I doubt Nintendo is ever able to generate the amount of hype with a Zelda that they did with Twilight Princess.

an HD Zelda in the style of that old tech demo could do a lot of damage if the install base was large enough.

And just for fun:

Code:
N64 Super Mario 64 11.910.000

NDS	Super Mario 64 DS 10.830.000
3DS	Super Mario 3D Land 8.290.000

Amazing how a much Ocarina of Time and Mario 64 sold compared to games on the Wii which sold vastly more consoles than the N64. Makes the achievement that much grander. dat 64

Was Sunshine considered a bomb for Ninty?

Nopers.

So not counting the OOT remake, Twilight Princess is the best selling Zelda game of all time.
Not so surprising they went for the TP look with the tech demo then.

Oh man I hope they mess around with the 3rd person espionage title. I do love spies. But knowing their history.. were probably working on a Blood Stone port that got canned in favor of Goldeneye Wii.

You take that back, YOU TAKE THAT BACK RIGHT NOW!

Thing is, Team Ninja wasn't the problem. The game was mechanically fine. Most of the issues with the game were with Sakamoto, they guy who has written practically every Metroid story.

I would be ok giving Team Ninja another go at the franchise and allowing them to fix some of the control issues the game had, and then have someone else write the story other than Sakamoto.

All while I actually loved Other M, and didn't hate the story as much as some, even though it was all kinds of silly. But I still loved the game, even if it didn't rank near the top of the franchise.

Sad to see The Minish Cap sold so badly, although I guess with that release strategy it wasn't unexpected. Also, the Metroid series' sales are an absolute travesty.

Smash will move consoles just as Mario Kart if Nintendo doesn't fuck up and serve us entries of both franchises that feel like updates instead of something new; the jump between Smash 64 -> Melee for example was incredible back then while Brawl felt like a huge update to me

As for 3rd party stuff: I expect them to show some crap that nobody cares about alá Arkham City Armored Edition, but I also expect them to present another surprise collaboration that might knock it out of the park

This isn't an E3 press conference and they only have an hour to show off 3D Mario, Mario Kart, Smash, and all the other crap they have. I doubt they show any ports in the 11th Direct at least. Maybe they'll have another one for 3ds and3rd parties.

As a Metroid fan and an action game fan I found the gameplay to be mind numbingly dull and simple.
The gameplay style just isn't good.

Minish Cap and Zero Mission slipping off like that is criminal. Mario Kart DS/Wii's numbers, though, I said goddamn.

I'd be interested to see how a Prime game that had some sort of competitive multiplayer did (ignoring Hunters and Prime 2 for the moment as a DS game and local only). After all, nobody really buys shooters for their campaign modes. I wonder if a Prime game with a strong multiplayer would sell well?

To be fair it was heavily bundled, but it's still a massive achievement to sell what it did.

I wonder if a Prime game with a strong multiplayer would sell well?

If Nintendo was ahead of the curve with online, some kind of online multiplayer could have been a big deal.

As you can see by the numbers, 3D Mario, Mario Kart and Smash Bros. are really strong franchises and the last generation introduced a lot of additional people to these series.

While the Wii U - games won't reach the Wii - numbers (assumption), they should move a decent amount of systems.

If Nintendo combines this with good marketing, a steady flow of software and other things, Wii U could achieve decent sales at least. Let's hope so. :P

Was Sunshine considered a bomb for Ninty?

I don't think just shy of 6 million could be considered a bomb by any reasonable metric.

It looks low if you compare it directly to the others, but it's pretty good considering the GCN userbase. They might've wanted it to be a little higher in terms of attach rate (though 1 in 4 people who have the system owning the game is still great, just lower than everything but Mario Galaxy which made up for it in volume), but there's no question they made a good bit of money off it.

34 million.. You know many games would love to sell 34 million bundled or not. Cod and halo are like bundled every year. Sony has some ps3 bundles themselves and those games will never get up there.

MKWii sold like a beast. What exactly did Nintendo do so right with promoting that game?

I still can't believe how well Link's Crossbow Training sold. Over five million!

price cut + MKU bundle will do a complete turnaround imo. That, and as you said, keeping a steady flow of games to punch the gamers in the nuts and don't give them time to breath between releases

it worked for the 3DS

I think this was also bundled a lot?

I firmly believe trying to rework Metroid into a more accessible mass market title is the worst thing they can do with the series. Other M was this, to an extent, trying to incorporate concepts that are common in typical blockbusters.

I don't think Metroid is ever going to have the sway that other franchises do, because of the kind of game it is. You'd end up having to make too many changes to the core ideology, which itself risks not being appealing to anybody at all, while in turn upsetting a disinterested core fanbase.

I think Nintendo would do best to accept Metroid is at its best as a Metroid game. Not niche, but not a gigantic blockbuster either. I think it sells well enough to the kind of people who like Metroid and these kinds of games to warrant investment, and they should be happy with that.
