Sure maybe a little, but don't look at MS's prices or NIntendo prices and think Sony must be losing hundreds.

We wont know for another year or halfway through their fiscal

Well, Wii U is being sold at a loss, but not a major loss. Nintendo could do it, but it would prefer not to. It's obviously only done a last resort, but Nintendo might be desperate enough to do it. It may be necessary in order to help stimulate consumer interest and rapidly grow the install base. However, Iwata said not too long ago that Nintendo wouldn't be doing a price cut. Here's his statement from January:

Is the Wii U actually still being sold at a loss now? That data is over 6 months old at this point...

Nintendo's turn to impress us tomorrow
uhzl4im.gif

Nintendo can get a wii U sale tommorow with a price drop and 3d mario this year (it has to be awesome too of course).

I love what the ps4 did today...but the launch lineup looks weak and until XV hits I don't need it.

Sonic and Mario can hold me for a bit

The last couple hours have been close to euphoric. Now Nintendo just needs to bring it tomorrow and I will continue to revel in Wii U + PS4 bliss for the next few years.

Now remember Nintendo is not doing this as a response to Sony's pressers. They are doing their own thing. It's not like "Oh shit Sony have FFXV, let's play that Zelda trailers guys!". It might be already recorded. Unless Iwata punched the stream mid-screen and then announcing he's taking it live from this point.

Woo, what a day on the IRC channel. Sony absolutely killed it.

I'm still excited for tomorrow, but I'm also a bit fearful that they won't show too many surprises. I'm not expecting Zelda Wii U, but I hope there's something that's an eye grabber. For some reason I'm really nervous about Mario. It needs to look good and play well.

I think sony just pulled out one of the best e3's of all time I cant believe it costs 399. Nintendo should drop the price to 250 come holiday season.

Not even going to lie i'm pretty salty right now for buying wii u during launch.

In resonse to the price specifically Nintendo could for once directly go against the competition. 50 dollar difference is very small, way smaller than the advantage the Wii had.

Nintendo Directs are available online on Nintendo's site right after they end, right?

Why do they always choose such terrible hours for Europe for Directs, uh.

Ah shit...for some reason I thought the Nintendo Direct was at 12 noon EST but it's @ 10 AM.

Now the question is do I check tweets and live blog on my phone or wait for it in video form on youtube on my lunchbreak? Hmm.

Catch you guys here tomorrow for the aftermath...however good or bad that ends up being...

It's possible they had some optional sections of the Direct filmed in advance, in preparation to deal with whatever Microsoft and Sony showed. The press conferences get changed and altered based on what else was announced sometimes.

I've seen no evidence that Nintendo gives a fuck about what the other companies are doing, ever.

So despite Sony having a really great showing, Nintendo is always the one I look forward to the most. Can't believe that we'll see Super Mario U, Smash Bros. 4 and Mario Kart U in a few hours.

I hope Nintendo delivers the goods.

final prediction:

everything we already know. maybe one new announcement (not including retro's game). it will be a more condensed version of sony's thing.

i feel like i'm the only one here who thought microsoft's conference was way better than sony's. sony's biggest announcement was 'we will not fuck you in the ass.' uh. thanks.

I haven't watched Sony's all the way through yet, but both felt long and bloated. Microsoft's felt more 'bull-shitty' to me so far with its talk of 'could-processing' and 'eliminating A.I.', along with Project Spark. Although Microsoft might have had more new IPs (I think) new FF, new Kingdom Hearts, some generally good looking games, and a cheaper price-point with no DRM/internet requirement probably swayed a lot of people over.

I feel like we're not going to have too many surprises either, so I'm keeping my expectations in check. I'll be happy to see what 3D Mario and Smash look like, as well as some more X. The Pokémon information is what I'm really looking forward to.

And just so you guys know, I had a dream last night that the new 3D Mario was called "Merry Mario" and it took place in a land of desserts with really good whipped cream physics. Just wanted to have that on record in case my unconscious totally stumbled upon Nintendo's game, y'know?

Its prerecorded but they could easily edit in some Zelda if they wanted to edit in a price drop announcement that Iwata recorded in his Hotel room tonight, not that hard to do ;).

I agree with you 100%. Right now Sonys conference is being so overhyped its stupid. We basically had a recap of the February conference with some sharp jabs at Microsoft and suddenly its the greatest E3 conference ever.

Sony basically put on a multiplatform conference.

Oh GOD!!!!! I am going to bed and waking up to a work-at-home day and I will see these marvelous games and oh god oh man what a time

Deluxe SKU goes Basic model for $250
New Family SKU for $300 with:
1 Gamepad
1 Wiimote
1 Pro Controller
NSMBU

Boom goes the megaton.

These are terrible ideas. Any suggestion of dropping the Deluxe by $100 is a terrible idea. You guys just think Nintendo is vastly marking up the price or something.

You're not alone, as this is exactly how I feel, but near everyone I've spoken to disagrees. *shrug*. Microsoft had a better projection of games than Sony, by a long shot, even if they did have the far shittier system.

Hahaha, you guys need to calm down, Nintendo will go bankrupt before they go that desperate.

Titanfall was the only thing worth it for me, they fucking ruined DR3, looked awful.

And its completely understable that them taking that stance is just as important as any game announcement because it could change gaming forever if it took over. It was a good day for gamers. As for games yes I wanted to see more from Japan and MS did have more games that interested me, but let's not forget MS showed a lot of multi games as well.

Well the fact that Witcher 3, MGS5, and BF4 will all be on PS4 as well took a big oomph out of that conference. Especially Witcher 3. I will miss Quantum Break, but after Halo 4 I could give 2 shits about Halo 5.

Aside from Versus and KH3, which aren't even exclusives, I'd have to agree. Never owned an xbox, and I'm not interested in ever getting the xbone, but that conference was just straight up games all the way through. It's really unfortunate about the xbone's actual situation though, they could have won it if it weren't for the other bs.

Also if it was they would of said it at the conference but they said "KH3 coming to PS4"

And the twitter account said "Final Fantasy exclusive to PS3/PS4, Kingdom Hearts 3 coming to PS4"

That could open the window of "Sora" for Super Smash Bros... ha! :D!

Damn, I just pulled an all-nighter because of that Sony conference (totally worth it, though) and I can't even see the conference I wanted to see most because I'm on a course.

i think a lot of people had their opinions decided in advance, given how the paywall stuff is being swept under the rug so readily after years of crowing about psn being better than live.

not that i'm any better. my opinion was formed a long time ago. we'll see tomorrow if my bias is confirmed.

No, I also enjoyed the MS conference more. Lots of great exclusives. Sony's had terrible pacing. That being said, yeah, I don't want to be fucked in the ass so go Sony!

And oh yeah, Final Fantasy XV.

and it was two hours long! and there weren't any new ps3 or vita games. ...and the last guardian is still a no-show.

thuway says ffxv is an exclusive to ps4, so it probably is. kingdom hearts might not be (disney's had deals with games on xbox and nintendo platforms before). and i think aside from the order there were no new game announcements from what i recall. the indie stuff was a nice gesture, but ultimately really boring.

New 3d mario, zelda, smash, retro game, mario kart...

That's all fantastic but i would love to see some major 3rd party titles in there with some acual effory put in.
I just hope there is no fillers

I guess I can see FFXV going exclusive but it would be an odd choice considering XIII sold pretty well on the 360. As long as Versus/XV has been in development I would think they would want multiplatform for cost recovery.

That said. Nintendo has no chance of catching the spotlight at this E3 short of dropping some big game acquisitions. Its a hardware year and that wins the headlines even if the conferences were mixed at best

About 8 and 1/2 hours till the Nintendo Direct. I am allowing myself to get excited now. I am keeping my hype down and just hoping that Mario Kart looks awesome and that we get a surprise or two.

Going to bed early so I can get up at 6:30 am to make coffee... (direct starts at 7am on the west coast). That is the plan anyway.

Supposedly Sony funded a good bit of development.

I always hated the fact that you had to pay for online gaming on xbox yet i never paid one cent (survived on free codes - still have about 6month worth unused) and i was fine. With ps3, which i bought considerably later i also never played online Games except a few sessions of VF5.

So as long as psplus is not mandatory im fine with it. Also i considered getting psplus for vita anyways (i understand however that now psplus may not have as many free games any it was the case until now)

Titanfall was the only thing worth it for me, they fucking ruined DR3, looked awful.

It was the combination of everything though, even if it was stuff I didn't want. Opening with the next gen announcement and reveal of Metal Gear Solid 5. Show off Ryse for the first time. Announce the return of Killer Instinct. Announce a new game, Sunset Overdrive. Show off more of Forza 5. First proper footage of Quantum Break. Announce Project Spark, demo it. Announce Crimson Dragon. Announce and show gameplay of Dead Rising 3. The Witcher 3's first gameplay footage and trailer. Confirm Battlefield 3 60fps. Tease next generation Halo. First gameplay footage of TitanFall.

The focus to me seemed mostly on games built for next generation systems, and that's what I liked, even if I didn't like the games themselves, and even if they're multiplatform. A major focus on next generation software.

Sony spent most of their time talking about partnerships, then did two live demos of two games primarily built with current generation hardware in mind. They did little to sell a future software forecast. We all know it's coming, but I would have liked to see it. Price/DRM/whatever is all great to here, but given I'm not buying either console day one all I really want to see is games. Games I haven't seen before, games built for next generation hardware. And that's where, in my opinion, Sony totally missed the mark, and where Microsoft played a far better hand.

And when Nintendo's rolls around, I expect a lot of predictable though lovely Nintendo. Few, if any, legitimate surprises.

EDIT: I forget about FFXV and KH3, but it's probably because I couldn't give a flying fuck about either. KH is a shit franchise and Final Fantasy hasn't been good for a long time. Versus XIII was in deep development hell for an entire generation. Just because you re-announce it and make it a mainline game does not convince me it will be good.

Theres more that qualifies a good conference than just showing a stream of games. Those games have to look decent and the conference has to be entertaining. Microsoft had Halo and Killer Instinct, everything else was an awkward bore, fun seeing the heckling/booing though.

I second this sentiment, MS showed a lot more games. Still $400 and used games are really enticing.

I agree that the xbox one had a much better show in terms of games but at the end of the day you have to look at the entire package and that's how the ps4 conference won. 100 dollars cheaper, no used game policy, no drm and it has better specs.

Pretty much here for Smash, but I'll probably be happy if it's as decent as the one back in...Feb? where X and Wind Waker were revealed, which isn't even setting the bar high.

Oh, and can't wait for Fairy-type to be confirmed and be hailed as a prophet for predicting it back in February before the big rumors started.

Microsoft and Sony both showed a lot of games and both had good conferences. Nintendo better make it 3/3 for the big 3.

Onwards to Midnight!
