Nintendo Europe releases iDEAME video. Indie devs talk about Wii U/3DS development.

Plenty of cool looking games coming. People say things like indie games don't matter but there's plenty of stuff to look forward on eShop that wouldn't be there without them.

The Delusions of Von Sottendorff and His Squared Mind for 3DS looks interesting. (58 seconds in.) Never heard of that game before.

From what i've heard, it was a very constructive event, with key people from Nintendo (even from NOA) attending and exchanging with indies. They are certainly on the right tracks about these matters, perhaps being even more proactive and supportive in their relations with this independent sphere would bears more positive and impactful results for them.

Spin the bottle looks rather....phallic.

Glad Nintendo is doing something right here. The more games for Wii U the better.

Positive Nintendo do thread with low traffic?! Shocking!!

It's fantastic that Nintendo is doing this. I actually learned about some new eShop games. Also, when will project CARS be done?!

All of these indie games are probably the most interesting thing across all consoles for me. The Delusions of Von Sottendorff and His Squared Mind looks marvelous.

I agree, they are on the right track. the main problem is the timing.
3DS eshop seemed to start for real only after the release of the Wii U, that started well, but saw a drought (maybe less perceived compared to the retail one, but still). Now I'm really looking forward for the result of all the indie positive feedbacks I've read about in the past 4-6 weeks, but it's still a mistake how they manage the timings also for this part of their consoles

eShop started off dry. Recent Web Framework Kit and free Unity pro license from Nintendo could really pick up the slack in near future though. The console just wasn't ready to launch.

Not many interesting new indie titles there, but there's already couple of them I'll pick up when I'll buy WiiU in the future. The more the better of course.

The Delusions of Von Sottendorff and His Squared Mind looks neat. Strange I never heard of it until this video.
They announced it last year, but this is the first time seeing footage.

I paused the video a couple times and saw some stuff I haven't heard about, like Calm Night of Snowfall. Is that coming to WiiU?

Wasn't there just a 30 page thread about how Nintendo does not interact with 3rd parties?
So is this video all bullshit or are they just hiding from select developers like Avalanche Studios?

Jeez, I didn't realize that racing games were going to have so much of a presence on the eShop.

There are already ~50 or so indie titles announced for the Wii U eShop.

Different parts of Nintendo, though Avalanche's "hard to get ahold of" story did reek of bullshit.

Not necessarily, a few of the games shown were entries in a yearly indie competition (iDÉAME++). This years winner, Zeus Thunder Bolt, will probably come to Wii U it seems.

.

Agreed on the proactive part, having a better indie ecosystem is good, working toward them is even better.
On this point, having people from NoA in Ideame is not a good sign. Their need to have more people in every region to give support.

Oh by the way, Iwata saying (in the Q/A from their latest financial results) their received hundreds of inquiries for their Web framework is good, giving some answers should be cool too.

Edit: Oh and I don't understand this video. I mean, for what kind of people they did it? Gamers? No... Future indies? Don't feel like it...

I read about this story about Avalanche Studios a couple days ago. I really think they didn't even try to contact to Nintendo.

All I saw about the indies is Nintendo is open and very encouraging with their projects.

Same here, that video gave off some strong Daytona USA vibes. Also really looking forward to Unepic, and Cloudberry kingdom still looks crazy as shit lol, will pick it up too though.

Looks like a copy/mix of daytona and scud indeed, maybe a little bit too obvious though.
Unfortunately it was the only appealing game to me.

I guess I am just not into 98% of all indie stuff. Then again, some of them are really refreshing and absolute gems.

This video is bullshit *and* nintendo are hiding from Avalanche Studios.

It's a pretty shameless homage to the great 90s AM2/AM4 racers (Virtua Racing, Daytona, Super GT, Daytona 2) with maybe a dash of Rave Racer too. Definitely one of my most anticipated Wii U games.

Smelled more to me like they weren't going to do anything for them unless Nintendo paid them outright to develop for their hardware. These other developers with far less resources seem to be able to get in contact with Nintendo rather easily on the other hand.

you are probably right. wiiu shop started better than the 3ds one, that start to show something only near the wiiu release. now there were announcments that make me feel positive about the future (as Unity license, the Web Framework, this event, a lot of indie feedbacks and, most importantly, games)

Those "nintendo is really hard to contact" reads more like "nintendo did'nt crawl in the dust offering bags of moneys to us".

There are some great indiegames on the way. ShovelKnight has me more excited then it should. :)

I think the only way for Nintendo to get huge western third party support is if they pay upfront.

They might have too in the future.

At this point there's more digital titles I'm looking forward to on Wii U than retail. I think that's a first for me with any console.

That's because this is the first nintendo device that has a halfway decent online store. This is what ps3/x360 has been for a couple of years now.

eshop games developed by indies or small developers in general will really take advantage of that controller more than retail games due to smartphone and tablet backgrounds. If middle class publishers are going to struggle next gen like they did this gen, then this is a good way of fostering small development houses to have a better chance of success. Why money hat one big budget game when you can help out many small ones instead. This is the right move and hopefully it works out for the developers and in turn maybe help the wii u somewhat.

..or lend out key franchises. Nintendo could get a bunch of big games if they just handed over the chance to use a franchise for free.

I had a 360 from 2005-2010, and while I was definitely an XBLA junkie I don't think there was ever any point when digital eclipsed retail for me personally. That's probably both a compliment and an insult to Wii U though.

i'm sold on 90s arcade racer

I'm so glad I pledged for this. I can't wait to play it.

The Delusions of Von Sottendorff and His Squared Mind looks surprisingly good. And I think my girlfriend will approve Spin the bottle. :D

There were already some good eshop games on Wii U: Trine 2, The Cave and Toki Tori 2. And it seems that indie games sell quite good, so I am very optimistic about this part on Wii U in the future.
